The Worst habit one of your regular golf buddies has

I also hate when people you do not know give unsolicited advice, I only take advice from two people, my father and my best friend who is a really good golfer and instructer, let alone a complete stranger on a course or the range. Please leave those comments to yourself. I know your trying to be helpful but I didnt ask for any of it.

It usually happens that when im playing with some of my friends that they'll say "nice shot" when I actually hit a bad shot and they know its a bad shot. They're just trying to be nice but I know it's not really a good shot it just ticks me off.

One of my friends (a high handicapper like me) routinely parks the cart about 30 feet from his ball, walks over and pulls out his GPS. Then he walks back to the cart, selects a club, walks back to the ball, hits it (often poorly), and walks back to the cart. (Dude, the 1-2 yards of accuracy you'd sacrifice by just measuring from inside the cart isn't going to detract from your game, believe me.) Even that wouldn't be so bad except that he forgets that he has a playing partner in the cart and will just drive on toward his own ball, oblivious to where my own ball is.

People giving unsolicited advice is BY FAR the worst. I consider myself fortunate that none of my "regular" golf buddies give advice when it's unwanted. Don't get me wrong, if I ask for something I feel they might have a correction for, I'll ask it. Same goes for them asking me. However, I enjoy golfing solo a lot and have been paired up with many random people over the years who are always giving advice. Nothing bothers me more during a round than that.

Finally swings, banana slice into the pond on the adjacent hole
Re-tees, process begins again

Oh, and same guy, when we finally complete the hole and the group behind us is in the fairway furious, must sit in the cart next to the green, write down his score, fairways, GIR, mulligans, penalties, practice swings, balls lost, and steps taken, all before we can go to the next tee....

Repeat same process on hole #2 for the next 6 hours

One person I play with hits a wall after so many holes when walking and just drags or skips the last few holes. Not overweight and doesn't have any physical of health aliments. Just plain out of shape.

Very few of these things would bug me if I was having a good game, and almost all of them would if I wasn't.

My main bugbears are players not repairing their divots and plug marks, and very slow play when weare obviously holding people up.

Another would be talking or making noise during my backswing, but I figure that wouldn't bug me if I wasn't hyper aware during my swing. So that's really an issue with how comfortable I am in my swing ( not very ).

Of course if my game is going badly, every little indiscretion gets me more and more annoyed. Until I hit that one shot on 18 that keeps me coming back.

Sandbaggers. I can deal with most anything except obstinately slow play or nor repairing ball marks. There is a fellow locally who is allegedly a 12, so he was in my flight for every tournament last year. He probably didn't have a tournament round where he shot worse than his handicap, which should raise a big red flag but nobody knows how to deal with it. There is another guy who is my good friend and has been a 9 for like 10 years. He never gets better? He wins the net in his flight every time!

i think the absolute worst is advice during practice... my buddy turns into a teaching pro on the range/chipping area...
im trying a specific shot and obviously its not going to do exactly what i want until i actually "practice" what works or not...

even when i practice alone... strangers are quick with advice... "pretty swing... you should try this"

Is he looking at the swing and really means nice swing not really paying attention to the ball? If not I really just dont understand why you would even say that.

I used to play with this guy who was constantly talking about how he was about to turn pro, etc. Don't get me wrong, I really liked him, but man! He had the

biggest slice I've ever seen. He swung out of his shoes, and hit the ball a damn mile, but with about another mile of slice. He came over the top so far, his divots would point as much as 25° to the left. His ball would never do the same slice twice, either, it would sometimes fly as a dead pull, sometimes a huge banana slice, and other times a moderate slice. Yet he could never stop talking about how he was "considering" a job as the pro at some country club. So we go out to play for the first time, and he loses 15 balls in 4 holes. His scorecard? It showed he was just +2. He was a nice guy though, haven't seen him in a while.

I especially hate that. I am a good golfer in my own way, but I love it when I go to the range, and am making a swing change, and thus hitting the ball poorly, and some geezer who hits his driver 90 yards with a mega slice, and hits up on his irons, comes over and lectures me on the flaws I should fix.

I had this guy come up to me once as I was working on hitting a driver with a high cut, and he starts going on about what I should be doing, etc. This guy had a knockoff Nike Sumo 5900 driver, and could barely hit that straight... You ever hit that club? That's all it does is straight! And he felt the need to keep telling me about this or that, so I said, "I'm actually working on hitting a high cut", and he goes on about how you should just hit your driver straight. So, I tee one up, and blast it well past the 250 marker, dead center, and he says, "see, I told you, blah blah," reiterating his advice.

whenever I am having a bad day I read this thread. Some of these habbits are so funny. Some are funny because I can't believe that people do that and others because its happened to me so many times. I dont know all the rules of golf so I cant really speak on that because im sure I break some of the little rules. I know my bad habit is after I chip on the green I have the habit of throwing my club towards my cart or bag. Not in anger. Just a nice friendly lob. But these stories are too much and what makes it better. Is I can just sense the complete frustration in your post... Outstanding stuff.....

I have a friend like this. He always seems to brag abou how good he is when in reality hes around an 11 handicap. Sometimes he will then get pissed off at other people who we are playing with when they hit a bad shot. He will also get jealous after i hit a good shot. It pisses me off sometimes.

There was a PGA commercial with Chad Campbell a few years back, and a quote stuck with me: ''If you have to tell people how good you are, chances are you're not that good at all.''
