The question the thread is asking is, "Jack or Tiger: who is the greatest?" Most of us have answered according to which one is the greatest golfer. But there's character, too. Jack was well-known for being modest in victory, gracious in defeat. If you heard Tiger's poor-me-I'm-out-of-here interview with Mark Rolfing after he finished playing, it's clear that when it comes to character, Tiger doesn't even know how to spell it.

The contrast between Tiger's interview and Phil's interview could not have been more telling. Then there were the petulant expressions and body language when things weren't going his way in the middle of the round. I have no idea why people appreciate Woods beyond the way he hits golf balls (on a good day).

I wasn't alive at jack's prime so I go with tiger being the greatest golfer, also tiger can rip it further, has a better short game, and he's a built athlete, what else is their to say?

I was a young man when Jack was in his prime and am an admirer of Tiger's golf game. But there really isn't ever a way to really compare these fellows. The game has changed so much over the years with equipment, course management, training equipment and techniques, and money that I don't see how you can compare the two. But as to who has contributed the most to the game you have to pick Jack. He was alway gracious in victory and defeat and Tiger is a spoiled brat as best I can tell. When he wins he brags ("I guess he understands now") and when he loses he cries ("I made 3 mental mistakes and it cost me the US Open"). I never hear Jack berate another golfer or make excuses for losing.

While I understand that the great majority of the game lies between the grip and the spikes, the technology today is so much better than when Jack played. I think all things being equal, Jack would be the better player.

lol. man you sure do have a huge gripe on Tiger. How many threads are you going to post with this? Whats your agenda? Who are you trying to prove? Let it go. We get it, you don't like Tiger. hell, I don't particularly care for Tiger past his golf career...but your recent streak of posting the exact same argument is coming off more petulant than Tiger's comments.

It is a munipulation to try and bring character into this. Who is the greatest golfer is the question. That is not an invitation to consider every aspect tenuously linked to golf. Character as in determination and will to win is relevant to golf, bucking porn stars merely incidental, much as I disprove.

tiger's legacy is tarnished, and even though he is a great golfer I think that Jack was an overall better player/guy for the times

Tiger's legacy is the huge boom in interest in golf, increases in relative prize money and a personaility which has ranged from the super boring to utterly scadalous. He may/will also end up with the most major victories in his career and no one will be able to ignore that.

Tiger is the greatest for one fact alone...he's meant more to the game than any other player in Golf history. When Tiger doesn't play...no one watches

I would greatly disagree, Tiger's impact on the game is no more relavant than Bobby Jones, or Hogan, Nelson, Sneed, or Palmer, or Nicklaus. Maybe less people watch TV when he is not playing but that doesn't trancend to meaning more to the game.

prize funds skyrocketed when tiger played.

He really got people watching. Think of all those fans screaming "get in the hole!" annoying yes, but they're all from the tiger crowd. Did jack ever win a tournament by 15 strokes? Tiger was on a different level a few years ago. He was winning 33% of all the tournaments he entered. That's scary.

I think in today's time Tiger Woods is better based off of TV spots, and advertisements. Who is the better golfer?? Hard to say, they would have to both be in their prime side-by-side. That would be great to watch.

    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
    • I know Dean Snell designed the original Pro V along with a couple of other brands tour balls.  How exactly does the Snell ball have problems.  Did he change something in the design or is a manufacturing error since he cannot afford the unlimited R&D budgets of the big manufacturers to iron out flaws
    • I've played the Tour in both white and yellow.  They play well and seem to hold up pretty good even when running into trees or cart paths.  Right now, I've been trying them against the Bridgestone Tour B RX ball and I really like both.  The Snell 3.0 looks to be a great update to the issues Snell was running into with the previous generation.
