You know what.. I'm going to wish him the best of luck and really, really hope he will make it. If only because, judging from his last couple of posts, his first live on-air press conference is going to be a classic!

- Mr. 804, congratulations on your first PGA tour win. How does it feel?

I have to ask, what is the point of this thread?

If we say that you have the potential to make a career as a golf playing professional, then what? Are you at some decision point right now (i.e. trying to decide if you should drop of out college to play golf everyday)?

I doubt that is the case...

It seems that you are just seeking praise; hence the reason you are becoming violently defensive in the face of the criticism that you are receiving instead.

If you wanted praise you should have just told us that you had the best round of your life... "Hey guys, I just finished playing 9 holes and I was only 5 over! I've only been playing for a year but I'm learning fast and this is so much fun!" We would have probably responded simply by saying, "Hey good for you, keep it up!"

But when you come in with this attitude, using profanity and giving us the top 10 reasons why you are "not ur typical amatuer" (sic), what kind of a response do you expect?

Some final thoughts...

1. Congratulations on having a good round. I would be ecstatic if I shot a 41 too. But keep things in perspective. I've found that a key to success in life is not to let yourself get too high or too low. Stay humble. Never convince yourself that you are on top of the world and you've figured everything out. That comes back to bite you sooner than you think. Likewise, when things are bad don't convince yourself that all hope is lost. Be level-headed.

2. I think you probably don't go low enough on your squats. Most people don't. I'm 5'9 and 165 lbs and I can deadlift 330 lbs, but my personal best 1-rep max squat is only 250 lbs. At this level it is quite strange that your squat would be more than your deadlift. My guess, again, is that you just aren't going all the way down on your squat. Get it checked on video. Don't cheat yourself on that exercise.

3. Being able to write well is an extremely valuable skill. Even as an engineer, employers will want you to be able to write well. I understand that this is just an internet forum, and you probably wouldn't write this way in a professional setting, but I recommend that you practice it here too. Develop good habits.

Man, if only I could get to that level u would finally see a character in golf not some yuppie thats politically correct. i speak whats on my mind and dont care what people think.

yes if i did an interview and they asked me a bout tiger i would probably say tiger who? i eat pieces of (expletive) like him for breakfast....haha

I'm pretty sure this guy is a troll btw... But yea thats a good point, you should post your swing tomorrow on swingacademy.com or "gtfo"

yep i sure am a big ol trol brah when my join date is april 2008 and i have 86 posts, dude gtfo

Wow, this thread has gone nuts...

1) If it's your dream to play professional golf then go for it. Work hard at it.

2) You might need to check your attitude. You've got to be able to take criticism.

3) My HS baseball coach played with Andre Dawson. He was an old school coach who instilled hard work in us. I'm an athlete too. I can play anything (except hockey). I can probably be quoted saying "Man, if I had all day, every day to just practice I could make the tour." Thing is, I can't. I'm not very good. I just picked a handicap because I don't even know mine, or how to calculate it. I can hit 300 yard drives but to get good at every facet of the game you gotta have the time to practice. I putt in my living room all the time. I'd suggest playing golf everyday, most of the time you aren't studying.

4) Back to your attitude. Here's a test of your attitude. If you do make it pro... and someone brought up the sandtrap, would you say "yeah, look at me now jerks," or thank them for motivating you?

Don't let anyone tell you "you can't do something." Take advice for what it is, but don't be a jerk when people say something you don't like. They're entitled to their opinion.

Thank goodness. Now I'll be able to sleep tonight.

But seriously, I'm afraid that in your haste to be defensive (again...) you missed the point of what I wrote. Re-read it. Re-read everything you have written on this thread. Think about what you are doing. Don't make a fool of yourself. Tim

    • For me it would be opt 1 , even though it’s a watching it slip away scene.  I believe it was Brando who lamented at the end of Streetcar Named Desire that he could’ve been a contender….would I be like @ChetlovesMer’s friend?  I hope not, but to know that for a moment I was giving the  win a run for the money would be a great memory…

    • On my calendar thx @Hardspoon for putting this together
    • After a bit of a lean spell managed to birdie stroke hole one, long par five. Ball striking best it’s been for a while short game exactly the opposite. Had so many opportunities to post good scores last three or four games, failed miserably😀
    • Would You Rather #69 For this question let's assume you are playing whatever tournament is important to you.  Would you rather finish second in your tournament but be remembered for a huge mistake you make right at the end.  or  Would you rather play solidly in your tournament, but you still finish outside the top 25, and are never really in contention.  Incidentally, this happed to a friend of mine many years ago at the tournament I play every year. He was leading the tournament coming into the last hole, where he took two to get out of a greenside bunker and then three-putted his way to second place. He hasn't really been in contention again since.
