Which team is the worst ever? 08 Detriot lions or 78 Tampa Bay Bucs?

I would have to think 0-16 is worse than 0-14. Plus, TB was an expansion team with a bunch of replacment players on it. Detriot had NFL caliber players, in the free agency era, and still didnt win a game. Thats just pitiful....

It's hard to say. The Lions going 0-16 is still very fresh in all our minds, but that Bucs team, even after going 0-14, started off the very next season 0-12 until finishing the year on a two game win streak.

I think the Bucs were worse simply because of their 0-26 record over two seasons, but wow, going 0-16 was something I didn't think was possible in this era, since there are so many more bad football teams to play against.

So I think the Bucs take the prize here since a) Kevin Smith was a somewhat effective runner last year and B) Calvin Johnson is possibly the best weapon in football (next to Fitzgerald).

If the 76 Bucs and the 08 Lions played each other on neutral ground, I think the Lions would win 26-23. It would be close though.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

that's funny... poor lions...

However, Calvin Johnson is indeed a monster. He has potential to be one of the best receivers ever. Said to be 6'4 with a 40 inch vert and 4.3 speed. He's ridiculous. Those numbers may not be exact but they're in the ball park.

But the lions are just... terrible. maybe they will win a game or two this year.

You sold me on Tampa actually. Based on them being an expansion team and a bunch of non-NFL talent they were probably the worse team. The gag reel is still going with some of the plays they did. Detroit has a few very good players. I would say head-to-head the 08 Lions would win pretty easily.

I think your argument (in bold) would be to say that the Lions are the worse embarrassment. With all the available resources, no NFL team should go without a win.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

i live in Tampa and remember the 78-79 seasons very well. i would definitely say the 78 Bucs would've gotten their brains beat out by the 08 Lions. you should watch some of the highlight reels. they are crazy embarrassing

Haha I am from Michigan and I must say the 08 Lions are a joke. We have not been good since Barry Sanders left. The management of the team over the last couple years is horrible. Jon Kitna is a joke.

I guess thats a good way to put it. Im not old enough to remember the 78 team. Embarrassment is probably a better term for the 08 team than awful. But even if they're the #2 worst of all time, it still means they are crap.

My Dad's from Detroit so I tend to like most of their team... there are only minor league teams in Alabama.

Even when the lions had Barry Sanders they still weren't any good! But man was the guy exciting to watch... wish he would have stuck around a few more years.

The Lions only won one game in their last 24... they have been an embarassment for over a decade.

They were not good with Sanders, but HE was fun to watch.

I F-ing HATE the Lions, they scarred my childhood and hurt me... back in 02' I vowed that I would NEVER root for them again. I hope the Lions get sold to another city or that Ford Field burns down and they just decide to fold and go away all together. Matt Millen is a joke and should have been fired 3-4 seasons ago. The only good news is I have enjoyed winning well over $100 betting various Lions fans in the past few years.

Haha I never meant to say they were GOOD with Sanders. They have and most likely wont ever be good for a long time. A lot of rebuilding is needed.

At least the Bucs had coach John McCay.

has to be the lions. 0-16 with some skilled players. plus had to sit and watch them every thanksgiving... only reason i think they should play is cause i think it will benefit the city greater than it playing anywhere else....

but sorry Lions' fans.. Vikings are gonna take the nfc north...

As bad as the '08 Lions were, they'd still have smoked the '78 Bucs. That said, there hasn't been as futile a team for the last 50 years or so as the Lions. One playoff win in 50+ years? That's pathetic.

I happened to be at the 16th loss of the year for the Lions. They have got to be the worst ever...although the bucs were bad...lets just say they both suck

    • I dont know if I really have a favorite, but there are two that have stuck in my mind for a very long time. #15 at Erie Golf course during the Finals of the EDGA Matchplay. Was up early and then lost a few holes in row so the match was close again. My opponent had a short putt for birdie. I hit past hole high, but 35 feet right. I drained the putt and looked over at my opponent who was in disbelief.   #8 at Whispering Woods during another year of the EDGA Matchplay. Was playing a very cocky opponent who made sure to mention on the first tee how many times he won the club championship at this course. I hammered this 30 footer that clanked off of the pin and dropped. My opponent was disgusted and that made me weirdly happy. I went on to win 5&3 or something like that, so that entire day has stayed in my memory.
    • Day 20: Did 30 minutes after getting home from work, before kid's baseball practice. This session was piecing out the new hip move in transition, doing 2-3 rehearsals from the top, and then hitting a ball from between P5/P6. Did another 45 minutes after baseball practice and dinner. Did 30 more minutes of what I did earlier, and then about 15 minutes of full swings trying to incorporate athletically.
    • Day 296: did a stack session.
