Hybrids? where do i put the ball in my stance?

I understand hybrids about as much as i understand women. Ive never been able to hit them. Its my understanding that theyre supposed to be easier to hit than an iron. Says who?
And what is the ball flight supposed to be like? I went to the range yesterday and hit about 100 balls with my 21* hybrid and the balls were all over the place. I was also getting more accurate and better distance with a 5 iron.

Any tips on how to play these, or should I just scrap em?

Hit them like an iron - a descending blow (then again, that's how you should hit your 3W too).

co-sign. I will never again play without at least one hybrid in my bag. The only reason im using only one right now is because of a mistake i made with a shaft choice for my 19 hybid. I'll probably never use a traditional 3 iron again, no matter how much flack I may get from other low handicaps i play with..

Who cares what they think. Older people would give them flack for carrying fairway woods instead of one or two irons.......and even older people would give them crap for using steel shafts instead of hickory shafts. Times change.

play mine about a ball and a haff forward of center and hit it like an iron. Easy as pie and looks better than a 3 iron too

I play mine about two ball-widths ahead of center...just like Iacas said....hit down on them exactly like an iron.

One mistake that I made with mine initially was standing too far out to the ball. Something about the wood-like head had me setting up and reaching out too far. I now set up closer to the ball...like I'm hitting 5 iron and the results are much more favorable. Don't give up on 'em. You'll have that "Ah ha" moment soon.

So you guys are taking divots with the hybrid?

I'm in the same boat as the OP. Every now and then, I have a day where the hybrid is so amazing I'm speechless.... but I have no idea why. Generally, the ball is all over the place........ though I've found when I'm really hitting it well the thing flies super high and carries seemingly forever. I'm under the impression hybrids are made with a high flight for a softer landing.... thats right, right?

Hybrids are extremely versatile.

I have found myself in situations 100 yards from the hole behind a tree ect.. And I will punch out with my *17, choking way down and making great contact. Saves me at least 2 strokes per round. Very valuable imo..

I am even starting to see more and more of people using them around the green for bump and run shot and having great success..

yes, but nowhere near as big as an iron. very similar to the divot you take when you tee a 3-wood low and hit it.

3 hybrid slightly ahead of of where I play my 4 iron, nice decending blow and shallow divot. I play a baby fade on mine to minimize misses, as it has a slight offset.

It isn't something I'm 100% confident in, but it is as reliable as any out of the rough.

I love my hybrids. I wouldn't be the best person for advice, but I've had much better luck hitting them then hitting low irons. But then again I can hardly hit any iron.

I'd be screwed on 200 yard Par 3's if I didn't have my hybrids.
