I was at the driving range tonight, working on hitting down with my irons. The range I've been frequenting is located on a busy road, so traffic is common. Taking my usual practice swings, all of the sudden I hear some idiots yell "FORE." This wasn't the first time that's happened, but how immature can people really be? If I'm around a bunch of people, I'll joke and say "50 bucks to whoever hits the car," like what Pesci said in Casino when the FBI plane landed on the course.

Now I'm no pro golfer or anything, I just started this year after a 10 year lapse, but people really need to grow up. Its almost annoying as hearing people yell "get in the hole" on a PGA telecast.

was on the course tuesday and these people drove by twice in a car yelling profanities during my league. they actually turned around and came back to yell at us again. pretty strange, haven't seen too much of that.

was that a real dog?

I'm more used to idiots blaring their horn when driving by a range/course. They seem to like to advertise their immaturity to the world for some reason.

I was playing a short 9 hole course with some guys I know a few weeks ago. We were on the first tee box when an ice cream truck pulls up in the parking lot. Well, from about two holes over we hear someone yell something like, "get that ****ing ice cream truck out of here, *******!" I almost fell over I was laughing so hard.

I play often on a course that has the 6th hole running parallel to a 4 lane road. It used to be linned with tree's untill the power company removed the all for some reason.

A few weeks ago I was in the middle of my swing off the tee and someone blew the horn. I flinched and mis hit the ball.

It is annoying but what can you do.

One course around here has 5 holes that border the interstate. You always get the people who honk when they drive buy. I just learn to tune them out. There is also the airport nearby and the train tracks that border a few holes. I don't think there is a quiet area on the course. It is locally know as the 'planes, trains, and automobiles' course.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

When I was "demoing" golf to see if I liked it, I took group lessons at school, off of chipping mats on an intramural field. Periodically, tour groups from middle schools and high schools would walk by, and some kid would yell "fore!", prompting a chorus of others to do it, complete with the even bigger idiot who thinks yelling "five" at this time would be appropriate.

Makes you want to turn around and give them a reason to wish they had yelled "two."

I can handle the roadside distractions and noise.

Military air traffic is another issue.

Murphy Creek is a kidney stones throw from Buckley AFB, and when those fighter jets throttle down on approach for landing the earth shakes… it’s LOUD.

I forgot about car horns. A couple of the local courses in my area are located in the flight paths of airports. I'm sure eventually I'll hear the roar of fighter jets when they're out playing.

It goes both ways. I used to live by a golf course. I was riding my motorcycle home and one of the guys threw a golf ball at me. I guess he thought my bike was too load. That was kind of a DB move...

I'm kind of torn on this. I am somewhat of a purist and would prefer peace and quiet but we golfers need to lighten up. Just use it as a tool to strengthen your mental game. On another note, have you seen on you tube the "airhorn golf" from Jackass? As much as I think it is inappropriate i cannot help but laugh my a$#%# off. I almost want to go out an do it. Like I said, we need to lighten up, it's not like we are putting for millions of dollars. Plus you have to give them credit for thier creativeness. Life is pretty amusing if you don't take things too serious.

I was playing a muni that has a train track that runs right next to it. One particular par 5, the tracks run parallel along the entire hole to the right.

After a great drive, I have my 3H thinking I might get home for two. A train starts passing slowly (they run about 20 mph thru the city) and I decide I can hit with just the noise of the train. Right during my backswing, it blows its huge horn. BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I pull up and top the shot - I look up and the engineer is hanging out of the engine car looking at me and gives me a little wave. It was actually kind of funny - I flipped him a good natured bird almost just to go along with the whole thing.

Learn to ignore it. It will make you a better player.

I agree, even though its just annoying and inconsiderate to other players. What hurts you can only make you stronger; that sort of fits this topic I guess.

The train is a good one, though. I think if that happened to me, I probably just would have laughed.

They are being kind actually since yelling FORE in that context is a warning that an idiot is the vicinity. I wish the idiots I work with would yell fore when they approach my office so I could shut the door.

Roadside distractions have never really bothered me as I learned to play on a couple of par 3's that seemed to be surrounded with traffic, but a few local courses have something even worse than any car horn, the dreaded inground pool in the back yard with more skimmpy bikini's than any beach I have been on lately. I tell you these 20 somethings with legs to there parading around just off the back of a few select greens or just off the fairway , well I really fall apart there. They know what they are doing and love every minute of it, as do I. One lady with a very ,very small tank top almost got hit with the ball when I shanked it right in her back yard o.b. , all she did was laugh and say nice shot.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
