I'm trying to convince a couple of buddies to go out there in August to watch the WGC Bridgestone event in Akron, OH.

Has anyone been to the course? How is it for spectators? Worth the trip?

I had invite to play there last year, but the evil boss would not let me take off due to a hot project I was working on.

It's a boring golf course except for 16, really. There are a few good places to sit. It isn't quite as tough a slog as Muirfield Village, even - the hills are mostly in the first two holes...

But if you've never been to a PGA Tour event - go. I can't say it's my favorite PGA Tour event, but since it's a WGC you're guaranteed to see a lot of good players.

Thanks for the info. Not to sound like a snob but I've been to the Masters three times so I'm already prepared that this will be a whole different universe. After that, I have a feeling it doesn't get any better.

I was just wondering if you can see the players pretty well because at Augusta it's amazing how close you can get to every hole. Thanks.

I loved it every time I have been there. I have been there to watch the tournament twice, and I have played the north course.

A quote from Kris
...is that college bball really isn't "lower tier". The better teams have their rosters filled with guys who could play in the NBA. hell, guys used to come straight from high school to the NBA. I really don't think there's much of a difference skill-wise between the two.

Pleased to see I'm not alone in clinging to this heresy. It does seem rather 'up and down' in layout and I'm always surprised to see how a high a profile it seems to have.

Can anyone persuade me otherwise?

Clearly you guys haven't been to Florida.

For a few years, we had the Honda Classic at TPC Heron Bay which has no water and no trees. I am not exaggerating.

In my bag:

Driver: SQ 9.5, Graphite Stiff Shaft
3 Wood: Diablo 13 degree, Stiff Shaft
2 Hybrid: SQ 18 degree, Steel Stiff ShaftIrons: MP-30, 3-PWSW: 56* Vokey Copper spin-milledFW 52* VokeyFlat Stick Zing 2Ball: Pro V1x

I've played both the north and south course. 2 completely different experiences. The North course i found more intersting than the south. Playing 16 on the south is cool if the tees are back near the pro tees.

We got to stay in the club house and fuzzy's bar is a nice place to hang out for a while if you can get it in.

In my Bag

AP1 5-G Rosa putter

The fairways are tight and the rough is brutal. I saw several well known players have issues getting the ball out of it. This is the only PGA tour event I've been too, so even though I don't have anything to compare it too- I've had a blast everytime I've been there.

16 is definitely the signature hole, but there's plenty of opportunities to get close to the players, and several holes where you can watch them shape shots off the tee.

In my Callaway stand bag:

9.5 Degree Taylormade Burner Superfast Adilla Voodoo shaft
3 Wood: Cleveland Launcher 15 degree Adilla Voodoo shaft
Irons 3-SW: Callaway X-14 Steelhead

Lob wedge: Cleveland 60 degree

Putter: Ping Anser Karsten

That was last year. They're letting the guys play a bit more this year, and I expect the course will be set up quite differently.

Well, I convinced my buddy to go. It should be a good time.

Hope you have a good time. Don't get stampeded by Tiger's gallery!
