I prefer to play in the AM, but do not like to go off too early for a number of reasons (including the fact I like to sleep at least a little longer on weekend than during week). About the earliest time I prefer is about 8am with the latest being about 5:30pm to ensure getting 18 in before dark. At this time of year about 8:45-9:00pm is the latest a player can finish and still have light. For the most part I think courses in the area have first tee time somewhere around 6:30am, although I know a few courses have 6:am right now.

If I have nothing going on that day I like to tee off about 9:30-10:00am. That allows me to sleep in, get a good breakfast in me and not have to rush (I like to spend 30-45 minutes on practice range, plus 15+ minutes on practice/chipping before playing). Obviously, the great thing about a really early tee time is you seldom have slower players in front and can get around quite a bit faster.

I have waited as a single to get out after the Amercian Express came into town at Harding Park, San Francisco starting at 4:00am and got out at about 6:00 am

I have played until it was too dark to see your ball.

The latest is to walk out and play as many holes before sun down.

In the summer, early.......it gets hot down here.

I prefer 7:30ish, but will opt for earlier rather than later. Did I say, it gets hot down here?! The only thing I try to avoid is a tee-time so early that I don't have enough light to warm up. The old muscles and joints really need a little lubrication before they get going......

I like to tee off by 7:15 am so I get out in front of all the hacks that feel they need 5 hours to play 18 holes. That normally means I am home by 11:30 at the latest. On occasion I will tee off in the middle of the day when a decent money game comes around.

in the summer its so much better to get out as early as possible cuz the midday sun will make you melt...
my earliest is opening the course at 6:15am
my latest this year was fitting a round in at 5pm... course staff wasnt too happy but we played fast...
we play till we cant see the ball anymore... and if we are on 18 dark or not we try to finish till we lose our balls or make it to the green... which ever comes first... that was around 8:30ish

3. We just finished the seventeenth hole when the owner came out and gave us a ride back to the club house because it was so dark.

A quote from Kris
...is that college bball really isn't "lower tier". The better teams have their rosters filled with guys who could play in the NBA. hell, guys used to come straight from high school to the NBA. I really don't think there's much of a difference skill-wise between the two.

some courses dont care as long as you have the carts in before dark...
if we start too late sometimes we just walk the course and nobody hassles us...
course it helps when you work there

I hate playing early when there's still dew on the ground, so the earliest I choose to play is about 9 am.

Most evenings during the week, we start around 6. This time of the year, with two or three of us walking, we can get 18 in. I've gone to the course at 7:30 to just play 1, 2, 17, 18 or 10, 11, 7, 8, 9.

A few weeks ago, we had a nighttime scramble that went off at 9 pm. It was ridiculous-they had those flashing balls and lightsticks for people to wear around their necks for visibility. On one hole, to avoid an elevated tee box, they made a temporary tee box that made the hole into about a 210 yard par 4. Waiting for the group ahead of us to clear the green, one of my team (the owner of the course) tells me to tee off-I tell him that I'm pretty sure I'm going to drive the green, so I'd rather wait. His response:

"Oh, these balls don't fly that far. They only go about 80%"

Well, luckily 80% of my drive had the ball rolling up to the green instead of carrying 210. Really made me timid the rest of the night, as in the dark, depth perception is really difficult. I was afraid I was going to kill someone the rest of the night. Also, putting a flashing ball in the dark is the most difficult thing I have ever done.

I'm not a morning person so the earliest I've gone off before is something like 8:30 and that was for a charity tournament. Other than that it's probably 9:15.

The latest I've gone off is about 4 pm on Christmas day (southern hemisphere so it was summer) but I only played 9.

I don't think I've gone out after 3 pm and played a full 18.
