Does anyone else use "no name" or other brands of head covers to avoid their clubs from getting stolen?

For example, when I bought my R5 driver new I used a super cheap head cover to make people think I was playing...a super cheap driver

I don't use the provided Scotty head cover for my Newport putter either. I use a Ping Karsten series one instead.

Women's A30S Integrated Set (Driver, Irons, Bag)
Fairway Woods: SQ 3,5
Wedge: cg14 60 degree
Putter: Always changing

It's certainly a risk. At the moment, I have a Cobra head cover on my 3-Wood, and the Nike hybrid I'm trying has its own Nike head cover. But I use animals (anteater, bear) on my driver and 5-Wood.

I am trying to find other head covers that I can like, for just that reason: so if I'm not keeping my eye on my clubs, someone can't switch a cheap one in for a good one.

Where did you get your animal head covers? Any place online that has a good selection?

But I just don't know what's appealing about those animal head covers. I think the original head covers that come with the clubs are much better.

I thieve Ping putters primarily. I would be pissed to get home and find out it was some crummy Cameron.

Anteater was a gift. The Bear is a UCLA bear, and I got it from Roger Dunn in West LA - although I've seen it elsewhere. Roger Dunn has a great selection of club covers. I suspect other golf shops do, too.

As for online, the big manufacturer of animal covers is Daphne's. A google search for Daphne's Golf Covers will probably yield a number of stores.

LOL

Exactly what I was thinking!

i never let my clubs out of my sight, or if i do, i leave them with someone im playing with. ive just heard too many horror stories about clubs being ripped off.

At our club all the member's bags are left in the club's bag warehouse, instead of having to carry your bag every time you go. The warehouse keeper is very strict and meticulous about what he stores, he counts all the clubs every time you take them out to the field and every time you turn them in again. It's his direct responsibility to make sure nothing is lost or damaged.

I do. Ram Driver cover. Torn colver with a 3 on it for my 3 wood. My hybrid cover is the only oem cover. I also have inexpensive black neoprene covers on my irons as well. No name on the bag.

That's hilarious. I use the standard headcovers, except the one time when I lost the cover to my nickent 2h and put a 76ers branded tube sock over it - if for no other reason then to irritate a pretentious friend I was playing with the next day.

If I had really expensive clubs I'd probably have them chained to my wrist or something. Seriously though I have 2 animal head covers and they work amazingly and I think they add some nice personality to the bag.

Where the heck do y'all play golf?

I've never had reservations about my bag being out of my sight except for once at a scramble that had attracted some weird folks.

I also don't leave my bag at the drop. I'll walk the 30 yards from the parking lot with my bag.

Not sure how I would feel about leaving my bag in storage at the club unless there was very strict accountability.

Which is the case at our club. When they wanted to rebuild the storage room, they had to call all the members and ask them to come take their bags while they did the work. They ended up with piles of bags dating from anytime from the 50's to the 90's that they couldn't reach their owners (living somewhere else, died, etc...) or whom their owners did not care to come and collect them. So it pretty much tells you about their level of integrity; they've had bags in storage for decades and they were never lost.

Never had a problem with theft, but I've thought about getting some new headcovers to funky up the bag a bit. Thanks for the links and stuff, I've thought about animal headcovers.

I've never had a problem with theft but I also don't own any $400 clubs so if someone did snatch a club or two from my bag real quick, it wouldn't take much to replace. Heck, I have less than $400 in the whole bag including the bag itself and all the misc stuff in the pockets. If I was to add an animal headcover it would just be to add some personality to my bag.
Bag: VT3 Stand Bag
Driver: 10.5* Offset Driver

Hybrid: Cobra Baffler DWS 20*
Irons: King Cobra II Oversize Irons 3 - PWWedges: Slingshot 4D SW 55*Putter: Crossbax 3.0 MalletBalls: Whatever I can find cheap.

The only non-manufacturer head cover I'd use would be something like Ishikawa's headcover.

And chances something like that being made for me are as good as my chances of playing in Augusta National.

    • I use four different sharpie markings on my golf balls. A single black dot on each side near the number, flourencent yellow along the alignment, and a series of 5 to 6 dots on the opposite side from the alignment. I've found that after applying markings, it's best to hit em with a hair dryer and allow 24 hours to cure before playing. This should cut down dramatically on transfer. It's also a good idea to make sure your sharpie's are fresh, not old.

    • Going to go against the grain a bit here and say that pain isn't as severe as we think it is sometimes.  A lot of times if something has been there for a long time it is really neurological.  Unless a sports med tells you it's likely to tear I would keep going with physio until a doctor tells you not to.  Good luck
    • I just wanted to post an update here.. so the person telling me that information was incorrect. They mixed up two of the courses that we play during our competition rounds and the one we played last weekend was NOT a non-smoking course.  I was also wrong in thinking that he was a member of said club, but he wasn't.. he's a member of a completely different club in our tournament pool.   The course that we will play next weekend is the one with the strict smoking ban and they have stated this clearly in their local rules.  The main reason for this is that there is a very high risk of forest fires in the area where this course is located at, so it's not to promote "health and wellbeing", but purely based on safety.
