I don't think the local golf association rates miniature golf courses, do they?

Yeah, I'm not trying to be a downer. A 9.6 I might be able to buy. There are some easy courses out there and some people are naturally skilled enough to get there pretty quickly.

But the 72? That's where I get off the crazy train. Maybe he's playing an executive course, or doesn't quite understand what course ratings and slopes are, or something... There's going to be an explanation one way or the other.

I won't comment on your abilities, but have you played in any tournaments yet? You don't know how good you really are until you play in a tournament, with other golfers watching your every move...

Impossible.

Nice!! I agree though, you need a few more scores in the system to really tell what your handicap is. If it stays right there, you seriously need to take some lessons and think about playing in a few tournaments. Start looking at "Q-School" and the Nationwide Tour. Congrats on a great start though!!

Why bother taking lessons? Hell, the guy shot 72 after playing for 2 months. I've been playing for three years (with a ton of practice, and a good amount of lessons) and my lowest round is 75...

No reason to break down his swing if he's two months into this game of insanity we call golf and he's shooting E.

Get off the guy's ass. I knew a guy years ago that worked his way into a single digit HC in 3 mos. With great talent and hard work I think it can be done. Will it last??? who knows.

I find it hard to believe....but kid, if you are that good....play by ALL the rules, play it down, take your penalties and start playing tournaments.

ive been playing a couple of years, not really to score well on 18 holes, more of a "lets take some beers and hit some golf balls in between sips" mentallity.

well since february i REALLY started putting my mind to it. im talking, 2hrs at the driving range, 1hr practicing in the sand, 1hr chipping/pitching, and an another 2 hours on the putting green, about 4 times a week playing 2 full rounds per week. in the past 5 months i went from an 18 hcp to a 4. ive taken a few lessons here and there, but if you practice CORRECTLY (not just getting a bucket and hitting them, but actually focus on your practice) its completely possible.

What so unusual....?

I have been playing golf for 1 month now. I am completely addicted and have been to either the driving range, practice green, chipping in my yard, or playing rounds basically everyday with a swing that consists of a baseball grip and and no coaching, I just picked up my a club and guessed what I should do. 3 of the courses around me already know me by name, Liar. My point is that the first round i played, i shot a 113 on a par 70. A common beginner score, and then continued to shoot that or higher, but posted scores significantly lower.

After that i chipped in my yard and visted the driving range for the next 2 weeks basically everyday. I would say 5 days a week is more like it. Next time i played at the same course, i dropped many balls after loosing them, but didn't count the penalty strokes and if I didn't like the shot I just played it over until I got something I liked and shot an 89. That was about a month ago. Today i played 36 holes, on the first 18 i shot a 80 on the front and a 72 on the back. I didn't even count my stroke on the next 18, but I am sure it was only 72 or so.

I've been keeping track of my scores on discks sporting good's website and according to their handicap tracker, i am considered a 9.6 handicap! You just put in the score that you want and your handicap drops lower and lower. Sometimes, I just enter scores even when I don't play just to see it drop lower. This comming only after 1 month of dedicated playing. Im truely exicted but is this too good to be true? ( i am sure i entered all the course and round info correctly into disk's database)

ok...even i have to admit that it does sound a bit far fetched...but i have been playing for less than a month now. my father in law is a golf instructor and we have been working together pretty hard. he didnt even believe me when i said i had never played before. i play fairly easy short courses because he wants me to "learn the game before i start trying to rip the ball 300 yds with every swing".

my point is some people pick up on things much more naturally than others. i for instance started bowling and within 3 years had shot 6 300 games had an 800 series and was averaging 213. was i the next tiger of bowling? nope...just worked hard and had a lot of hand eye coordination naturally. i honestly never considered even playing golf b/c when i went to the driving range (more for the batting cage and mini golf) i seen alot of guys that looked like they had the hand eye coordination of an injured bat. some people are natural athletes and some are not which is why they invented intramural teams....
