I finally broke down and replaced my Ping TiSi driver with an Adams Speedline. I gained a ton of distance but there is no visual aligntment aid on this driver. I guess I kind of got use to that little arrow with the flat line at the front of my Ping and the all black top of the Speedline is messing with me. You guys got any suggestions on what I can use? I obviously don't want to use anything that will damage or hurt the appearance of the club. Thanks.

My old Ping:

Speedline:

Fairway:  '07 Burner Fairways
Irons:  Apex Edge 3-W

Wedge:  52° & 58° /  60° 588 Satin

Putter:  Anser 4

There are these little tiny sticer things you can get to mark your golf balls with. Would be perfect as an allignment aid. I have a speedline also and I think I'm going to try that.

FWIW, I think stickers as an alignment aid would be illegal per the rules, but paint is OK. Then again I don't pretend to be a rules guy.

I'm not a rules guy either, but I can't think of any reason why there'd be a problem with a sticker OR paint, as long as you stay away from the contact surface.

Thanks for the tip. I'll look into the stickers. I tried my best to look through the rules on the USGA website but I didn't see anything about visual changes to the club.

The stickers are really tiny. Tiny enough to sit inside the dimple on a golf ball so in that way they are perfect. I wasn't aware of the possible rule infraction though. Can anyone clarify? I've tried searching the rules myself but couldn't find anything. Is it one of those deals where it is ok but if it should come off during a round it would be a penalty for an altered club?

Where do you buy those markers? I wasn't able to find anything like that. Just wondering if it was something specific to your area.

I stole this from another forum.

Dear XXX, Rule 1a, Appendix II of the Rules of Golf prohibits any external attachments to a club, except as otherwise provided by the Rules. Application of a piece of tape, decal or other similar material to the top of your putterhead would be considered an external attachment not permitted under the Rules. However, you are permitted to paint, lightly inscribe or mark an alignment line on the top of your Two-Ball putter. Thanks for your inquiry. J. Same here, that's what I have been doing. Just wondering if I could do something different to make it a little more similar to my old Ping. It's really weird that they didn't put anything on the top of this driver.

Not sure, It really hasn't bothered me. The small sticker things sounds good though

Since it breaks the rules I won't be using the decal and I refuse to put paint on there so I guess I'll just continue to play it as is. I've gotten my swing grooved now anyway and I'm straight down the middle so I guess I don't need the allignment aid. Just love this driver.

It may be a dumb rule, but that is the rule.

Interesting. "Dumb" doesn't even begin to capture it -- there are some peculiar rules in golf, but that is utterly nonsensical. I could perhaps understand if easily removable decals were banned because you could then move it around within the round, though even then I'm not sure why you wouldn't just ban the adjustment. Honestly, in my world GLUING a piece of paper or plastic is just as permanent as putting a paint dot.

Wow.

If you're going to engrave a marker line on the top of your driver, you might go to a machine shop. Let them cut it with precision-control equipment, and fill the cuts with paint. Or, see if a clubsmith could do something like this with precision.

I had a non-precision guy make a custom putter for me, and requested that he put parallel aiming lines on top center of the head. He did it with a hack saw, got one line crooked, and it took me several weeks to mentally override the crooked line.

Any other "how to" advice out there?

After a couple of more trips to the driving range I have no problem just lining up with the top groove. By the way, I love this driver.
