When you hit a hybrid off a tee, do you tee it up like a 3 wood or just above the grass as if you were hitting an 7 iron?

Just like a 7 iron...

Driver: Callaway Big Bertha 10.5*

3WD:  Callaway Big Bertha 15* / X2 Hot H4 Hybrid
Irons:  Callaway Apex 4-PW Project X 5.5 shafts

Wedges: Callaway MackDaddy 2  52/58
Putter: Odyessey Metal X Milled 1

I usually tee it up pretty low if I am hitting a hybrid off the tee. When I tee a 3 wood it is usually just a little bit higher then a hybrid or iron. Also depends if you want a higher or lower shot.

BTW......the ball's only another 1/4" or so higher with my 3 wood.

For hybrids and irons, I only tee the ball up when I want to hit a draw. When I do tee it up its barely above the grass.

I tee it up just above the grass like I do an iron.

Be careful with questions like this. Single-digit handicappers tee their woods just as low as they would for an iron. Mid and High HCs tee our woods more like driver.

Just by reading their response, you can determine the responders handicap.

I hit a hybrid like I hit a iron, so I tee it the same way as my irons. That may vary from club to club, but with a 20-ish degree hybrid I'll tee it like I do with my woods. With a wood I want to hit the ball right at the bottom of my swing arc. So, I tee the ball just above the ground so the ball is completely, or most of it, covered by the face of the club. I see many high handicappers tee the ball way too high with their woods. The driver is the only club you want to hit the ball on the way up, so it makes no sense that you should tee it that high. A lot of them hit the crown and send them sky high. I don't see how it makes it easier to hit the ball on the way up, especially with a smaller face than the driver. You set the ball up more back than you would with a drive, tee it just slightly off the ground and sweep the club.

I went to the range today and tee'd it a smidge higher than an iron and hit it great. I usually tee my 3 wood around a 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch I'd guess. With my irons it's just barely sticking out of the ground.

I don't tee mine up, i do that old trick that Henrick Stenson did with his 3-wood during his win at TPC this year. Tap the ground to where it makes a ruffle and set your ball on that.

I wouldn't say that. I am not a low handicapper, but the ones I have played with didn't tee it up any lower than I do.

A quote from Kris
...is that college bball really isn't "lower tier". The better teams have their rosters filled with guys who could play in the NBA. hell, guys used to come straight from high school to the NBA. I really don't think there's much of a difference skill-wise between the two.

my question though, would u place the ball closer to ur front foot like a driver or more towards ur back foot like an iron.

    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
