Once if it rings they should put it on silent afterwards and no long convo's.

I keep mine on silent if playing with others and check every few holes. By myself, I keep it on low because the only person I'll bother is myself.

The past month has been the first month I have ever played golf and even paid attention to my cell... and the reason is that my wife is 9 months pregnant. Other than that... cell conversations (unless skipping work to play) are best left off the course.

It depends.

If they are conducting business then it's okay by me....just try to step away from others hitting and take care of things. If it someone getting repeated social calls....that's another matter.

I can tolerate one with a short call you back later type of thing. Anything beyond that is totally annoying and distracting.

I not too bothered by it as long as they are being discrete about it. When it rings once, turn it to silent, and take your phone calls quietly else where. Dont make us wait, hole out if you are still talking on the phone.

If you need to conduct business you shouldn't have tried to sneak out of work that day.

It's becoming more of a problem, all i hear are cell phones ringing.

Hey, if you need to talk on the phone, then you shouldn't be on the golf course.

Also not good for golf ettiquitte.

I always leave my phone in my car during a round.

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to leave my phone in the car for a 4 hour round of golf. I'm not going to have a casual conversation with someone while on the course, but I definitely want to have my phone available in case of emergencies. I just keep my phone on low and let people know that I'm busy and I'll call them back... takes a good 10 seconds. Never had any complaints.

It's like a lot of things in golf - bad etiquette is creeping into the game. Cell phones (or mobile phones in my neck of the woods) are banned on golf courses. If your wife is 9 months pregnant that's fine - have your mobile phone with you but put it on silent. How difficult is it to check for Missed Calls every few minutes?

For those who are expecting important business calls - what are you doing on the golf course in the first place. Take four hours of your life and stop worrying about work - that's kind of the idea about going to play golf, isn't it!

For those of you who talk quietly or walk away from the group to take the call, the rest of the group can still hear you and still have to wait for you. And the reason you don't get complaints is because your playing partners are either doing the same thing or they're too polite.

There are some things that really hack me off on the golf course, and talking on mobile phones is one of them. It's almost as bad as someone taking a call in a restaurant and carrying on a conversation in front of you.

I'm sometimes surprised at the lack of etiquette by people that don't mute their phone on the golf course. Taking a quick short call while walking towards your ball or between green and tee is fine, but not more than once or twice. How hard is it to mute it and have vibration on, leaving it in your pocket if it's so important? I always carry mine with me, never know when I need to make a quick call or send a text, but it's always muted and put in a pocket on my bag. If someone want to contact me, too bad for them, I won't end my round anyways.

Some people even got the nerves to take a incoming call ringing at the tee, talking while others hit and let everyone wait so they can finish the call before hitting the tee shot.

If your wife is pregnant and might burst, of course you can pick up, but you should still leave it in the pocket muted with vibration on. The worst are those that leave it in the bag, but never mute it. Commonly people of age 40+. I'm always the first to hear it ring and have to notify the owner that his cell phone is ringing in the bag.

Playing partners that are constantly on the phone make me want to smash their heads with a wedge. It is completely acceptable to check your phone a couple times a round, or to return an important call. But the constant TEXTING drives me into a blind rage. One of my good buddies texts EVERY TIME he gets into the cart. EVERY TIME. I have stopped asking him to play because we don't even talk to each other and his texting is annoying and distracting. Our other buddies even mock him to his face when he is doing this, but he is so obsessive he can't stop. If you are like my friend, STOP. Soon you won't be able to get a game.

How is his texting in the cart distracting? Is he texting and driving?
