Why Aren’t More People Copying Moe Norman's Swing?

I can write many 'nonsense personal unrealistic fantasy' reasons....but at the end, it just for my fulfillment...just feel good if I can achieve that (straight shots) like Moe did.

Life only once, I pursuit what make me feel good, especially in this game.

 

I am happy with 80% Moe....or even 50% Moe. 100% Moe will be out of my world , because as everybody know, he hit tons of balls everyday which I can't. And Moe have specific clubs for him, which I don't have..yet.

 

If we have time machine, maybe you also can ask the same question to younger Bryson Decambeau when he was not win any tournament yet, why he practice that weird swing? why he was not follow proven champion swing?

I have an idea, I will ask Bryson about that, now ...yes now, on his instagram. If he reply, I will update.

Bryson doesn't play a straight ball, and I could ask Bryson myself if I wanted to.

Also, Bryson != Moe. LOT of differences there.

Yup, agree....at extreme sentence, maybe one can say: Bryson's swing nothing like Moe's...LOT of differences there 

As long as I can remember, the only thing the same is only at their grip, they both grip with palm not fingers. Even that, I am sure they ware both have different palm grip.

friend of my friend can play 80s with consistent big slice ball flight. He adjust his setup alignment to more left of the target.

Practice on the course certainly can make a big difference. I think the biggest thing is you get all the different lies which you either learn to work with or you simply continue to mess up because of bad fundamentals.

I would think a big slice though would not be the best to continue with, but that is just me. If your friend scores 80s with hit, not much one can say about that. I don't mind compensating for a reasonable fade, but a big slice I try to mitigate if possible.

To me there is certainly something to be said about what it feels like to hit what one considers a good shot. It might not be good by other's expectations, but it is satisfying. Kind of like as a kid hitting a baseball solid and how it felt or throwing a good pass in football. Maybe that is why we really like golf because we want that elusive feel good ball strike.

BTW, I remembered when I was studying Moe Norman's swing last year that I had read that when he was 14 years old he hit on average 800 balls per day. No wonder his swing became machine-like. 🙂

I study a number of different swings, yet I primarily focus on what might assist my swing the most. I don't swing like Moe. I wished I could even come close to such a solid straight swing.

Some things from various swings don't work for me while other things do. The things that don't work I quickly discard them. I find that the ease of Moe Norman's swing and consistency and reducing all the "mind clutter" like Moe did has helped me greatly. In my opinion, I think Moe only maintained a couple of thoughts when swinging.

Moe no doubt disproved many golf "theories" to ashes by his striking capability and he did this before all the fancy high tech equipment we have today. The camera would pan to where Moe was hitting and there would be a slew of balls in a fairly tight grouping. I find it fascinating even the pros of his time would stand around watching Moe for hours mesmerized by how he could simply hit the ball straight with any club for hours on end.

The Moe Norman swing is deceptively simple. There are many subtleties that you can not pick up on in just watching old videos. Ball position, club at address, grip, shoulders, proper weight shift... on and on. The main reason that this swing is not used more is because there is only one guy teaching it. It does become very consistent once you "get it". But so is any swing. The day someone wins a major tournament using the single plane swing - that is when everyone starts promoting it on their platform as "the greatest thing ever" - since Moe Norman. I will say that anyone that has back or mobility issues should look into it because it is very easy on the back and joints. You are not cranking your back in your backswing rotation - in fact if you go too far back it throws off the timing completely.

I don't know. I will say it's not "square" the way I'd define it - with zero forearm rotation.

The forearms still roll, though. Maybe not initially, but at the top of the backswing, they're rolled.
