Reteif, Ernie and Louie arent hitting the ball 400 yards which is proof I am right. When Players who are half their size are arent you smart enough to wonder?  Rory is 5 ft 8.  Baseball is a perfect example of the benefits of PEDS and how they improve speed strength and focus since a baseball player has to hit the ball at 90+ mph.  Just let me know when you are ready to come back to reality and bet me!    ALSO -  how is it that 25% of the tour players say they think Tiger was doping?

They're jealous, spiteful, ignorant, just like to stir up stuff when they're anonymous? You're free to pick any reason for the Tiger question. Also, how is it that 75% of Tour players apparently don't think so, according to your number?

I'm not entirely sure that Ernie couldn't have hit it almost 400 yards? He was not known as a "power" hitter and was called the "Big Easy" right?

If PED's were as rampant as you perceive them to be, we would have heard about it, like we have in other sports. There would be an epidemic with junior and college golfers as well because they can hit as far as many of the pros.

The players you've mentioned in this thread hit it far before they were on tour, they also don't hit it 400 yards, there's stats on this stuff. The modern players are better athletes and play with better equipment, going to lead to them hitting the ball farther than Gary Player in the 70's.

And please stop trolling or you'll be restricted from the thread.

I don't know where the "30% faster clubhead speed" that he's repeatedly thrown out there comes from, nor do I know if it's a valid stat or not - but I don't find it hard to believe that modern day golfers could generate considerably more speed and power.  "Supplements" for golf in the olden days were whiskey, beer and cigarettes - nowadays it's creatine, protein drinks and energy bars.  I think as a whole, golfers today are considerably more athletic than they were 50 years ago.  They have structured, rigorous workout programs tailored to the sport, eat right and are generally more health/fitness conscious.  Their clubs are far more technologically advanced and custom fit to them using launch monitors, etc.

And I don't ever recall seeing Rory carry a drive 400 yards.  According to the PGA stats, Dustin Johnson was the leading driver at the PGA Championship, with an average of 311.3 yds.  That's a far cry from 400.

First - I didnt make this up - it is from Golf Mag - so you didnt hear the talk about Tiger taking pain meds, having wild sex parties, drinking and doping?  Second - since so many are doping do you think they are going to talk about it? As in any other sport the honest players talk and the others dont.  Just put up the money. My FB profile isnt anonymous like yours. I have nothing to hide and will be you or any of your other friends in lala land up to a million dollars - so put up!

So, you read an article from Golf Mag then concluded that all the players are doping?

You know, acting like an ******* is a pretty poor way of convincing people to take your side.

Raw strength isn't as beneficial as it is in other sports; as others have said, Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson are probably our longest hitters, and they are pretty slender dudes. Hitting the ball far is much more of a result of equipment improvement, fast fairways, and good swing mechanics than it is strength.

I would feel the same way but this past week I found out even I can hit the ball farther than I ever thought.I had a 290 yard drive on a rope without wind helping and it stunned me.Backed it up with drives of 270 and 245.Cant remember last time I hit one over 240.I fixed my short distance with swing adjustment and im nowhere near in shape like these younger guys who can rotate .If I can hit it that far then I know they can hit what their hitting.

Nope - I am able to think unlike most here. If 25% say it is so then I have to assume there is a problem which is what I said. Dont put words in my mouth. I never said they all are doping.  I dont think Jordan does - he hits the ball long for a person who is honest. There are many golfers who are mediocre and make a decent living who dont. But when guys 5-7 and 5-8 start belting 400 yd drives and suddenly start winning tournaments by a mile just like when it happened in baseball any idiot can tell something is up. Kind of reminds me of when Brady Anderson went from 15 hr in a year to 55. Next time you go to a football game and see the 100 yd field think about this -  Bubba Watson who has more tics and twitches than Michael J Fox - flew a golf ball 4 freakin football fields. It didnt roll.  It flew. He hit his drive and started hollering DOWN!  The ball flew the green with zero wind.  And if you think that is without PEDS then lets bet.  Look at a pic of Rory from 5 years ago and then one today and take the time before you lose any money to me to check his stats. If you think Rory is clean then lets bet 2 million dollars

Wait, LOL, you think Bubba takes PEDS?

You're really lost all credibility now, I might have bought that Rory and Tiger had experimented with PED's, maybe even DJ and Day too, but Bubba?   Someone would likely gain more distance taking yoga classes than they would using steroids or HGH.

^ Gary Glaser Copperfield, horse racing, 400+ yard drives, Tiger's bulging biceps, Rory looking fit and strong after 2 years of fitness, Ernie being a short hitter, Bubba hitting it long despite being ultra thin, one Golf magazine the is more accurate than a laser finder, outrageous betting offers to "prove" a point, etc. We must all be lost in the dark??? Sounds more like he is jerking our chain or he has a personality disorder.

5 years?  You don't think somebody could be 100% natural and still make very substantial gains in their physique in 5 years???  Give any reasonably healthy young male 5 years and the proper training/nutrition and he could make Rory look like a 99-pound weakling by comparison.  They could make very impressive changes even in one year without PEDs.

Let's be real here - Rory has built a solid physique, but he's no 'roided out monster.  He looks a bit less muscular than the average 20-something gym rat.  To say he had to use PEDs to achieve that physique is a pretty ridiculous statement.  If he's been juicing for five years and that's all he could accomplish, then I'd have to say his training and nutrition is crap.

Let's be real again - Bubba Watson's 402 yard drive didn't "fly the green" - not by any stretch of a tall tale.  It landed 30-40 yards short of the green and rolled through:

The baseball comparison is funny to me. Offense is certainly down in baseball because of testing, but it's also due to the fact that umpires are calling strikes better. And, basically every MLB pitcher throws it over 90 now, but he doesn't think that's weird or noteworthy. But a 30% increase in swing speed (very much doubt that %, by the way) means PEDs.

Also, no one has broken Secretariat's records because American thoroughbreds just don't have much genetic diversity anymore: http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/thoroughbreds-are-running-as-fast-as-they-can/
