Changing from overlapping grip to interlocking grip

I'm a baseball grip man myself. I don't like either overlapping or interlocking, they both make me feel like I have arthritis. Whatever feels best is generally what works best.

I have always used a interlocking grip and just feel like the club is more secure and usually tends to be a good grip for stronger players.

I understand that the interlocking grip helps to "lock" your hands together to form a single unit as simply as possible. Some don't like it since it can really strain your pinkys if you put too much pressure with a tight grip. I know that women really like the side by side or baseball grip and I think that is actually better for small hands. Personally, I tend to not keep my hands together on a bat so the grip does not work for me very well.

Back when I was a kid and playing golf, I used the 10-finger grip, but since I've been taking lessons again, I've learned the interlock and it just takes some getting used to. In the beginning, it just wasn't comfortable for me, but because I've played like that and practiced that way, its now natural. It'll come to you :)

I started with the Interlock grip and then changed to Overlap grip. I have since gone back to Interlock. I'm much more consistent with the Interlock.

You need to find what works for you. Try them each for a few round or Range sessions to see which one works for you.

I have always used an overlapping grip(since High school) and every once in a while I try the interlock and seem to only be able to hit strong fades i.e. slice!
With my overlap I hit draws!

I was taught the interlock and except for a brief period where I was convinced by a so-called pro to switch to a overlap, have played nothing else.

I wear a 2x glove because my hands are wide and thick, but about normal length in the fingers. I have very strong hands (farm work, auto body hammers, etc), am left handed (I play right) and can get real 'handsy' at the bottom of my swing arc.

The overlap simply allowed my stronger left hand to 'take control' as it were and pull through so hard I swear the ball could take off left and come around and hit me in the back of the head.

The interlock takes the first finger of my left hand off the grip, reducing that hand's control if you will, and allows both hands to work more in concert with each other. I even go so far, especially on touch shots, to remove my right thumb and forefinger from the grip to help prevent me from flipping the clubhead through at the bottom of the swing arc. A local pro told me Hogan did something similar. Don't know about that, this just works for me.

I've made the switch, although not officially, from interlock to overlap. I was on facebook one day recently and Ben Hogan posted a photo of himself (below) I started toying around with getting myself in the position and felt a restriction with the interlocking fingers of my interlock grip, so, I tried it with an overlap grip, and sure enough, although it wasn't quite the angle pictured, it at least didn't feel restricted.

So I spent a little time on the range yesterday morning with it, got comfrotable, then took it to the golf course. Shot 1 over par, nothing to write home about, but man, when I hit it solid, they felt really solid. I really feel like I can get my hands and the clubface moving to a better spot toward the ball.

Use whichever one feels better...just make sure you are gripping the club in the correct part of your hands.
