I am seeing a shift from a John Daly style a couple of years back to more to a DL III sort of feel.  Very positive progression.

I think you're a little bit static at address, a bit of a waggle might free you up a bit.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

jamo, you're like me, hardly a pause at the top of the back swing....transition is extremely quick ( yours is even quicker than mine )....don't know if it's a bad thing though....kinda impressive actually how quick yours is....alvaro quiros-ish

I went to the range today, but my ankle is still hurting, and I forgot to wrap it so it was pretty much a waste of $6. I couldn't turn my hips at all, so I spent a good while with the flying wedge drill. Here's a video. It's actually a tiny bit better than last time. Getting a little less flipping, but I have to find a way to stop rotating my hands to much. I've got some ideas, but they'll have to wait a while.

I like the quick transition, I try to lead the downswing with my hips. I find it really helps getting everything in sequence, and make much better contact.

Thanks. I'd love to be more DLIII like. I do waggle a bit at address, I just cut it out of the video. Maybe next time I'll keep my whole set-up and stuff it a video.

Still making progress on the flying wedge drill:

I liked this still frame so much, I made it my Facebook profile picture, a first for me.

It's obviously not perfect, but steady progress.

jamo... who's that girl is behind you on 5/11? she's got a hell of a swing.

you're looking good, man. one thing though, have you ever tried strengthening your grip? that helped me quite a bit in the flipping department.

Looking really good here.

All the pieces look really great. What I would work on now, and it's difficult for big/bulky guys like us, is to increase the shoulder turn. With the face on view, try to turn so that your right shoulder blade is visible at the top of the backswing. i would say the strong point of your swing is your hips on the downswing. You have a move that is very very hard to teach someone and most of the people that have it, have it from the beginning or naturally. Ben Hogan had that same move. You dont need this move for a good golf swing but alot of guys try to do it

Working a bit on the backswing lately, and trying to translate my relative success at the drill to the full swing. Something I did today: It's far from perfect, and my P4 is pretty sloppy, but it's improvement that sets me up better for the downswing.
I've tried it and it didn't seem to make all that much of a difference, but I might try it again later. Actually, my backswing has gotten painfully short the last few days (never would have thought I'd say that after October of 2009, the first page of this thread).

What I've been working on lately: Small progress made with my left arm at impact. I've gotten pretty good at drills, now I'm finally seeing a bit of progress translating that to the full swing. imho, you're not getting your hips turned enough. look at any tour at impact and their back hip is in line with the ball, yours is still way behind. i wouldn't worry about your hips moving forward so much as i would your hips turning. if you get a proper hip turn then your hips will automatically move forward because your subconscience isn't going to let you hit yourself in the leg.

Here are some videos from August (I've only been to the range 3 times since late August, so any videos I've taken lately mean next to nothing). Did some great work with Erik in Erie a few weeks ago. BIG improvements, as evidenced by the before and after first three pics. The last two are me trying to keep it going/get better. Your swing looks pretty good man. Looks like you make good solid contact. That first setup pic sort of shocked me - that's something I think I need to address in my swing,

Okay so here's the deal as I see it.

The PGA Tour players we've measured move their heads 1" or so on the backswing. Their weight at setup is roughly 55/45 - to the left or to the right - basically centered. At A4 their pressure is 65-70% right (their weight is roughly the same as their address weight distribution - most that have movement are towards centered).

So you have a steady head now. You have a flat left wrist (shaft not passing lead arm) at impact now. You have a reasonably good diagonal sweetspot path, and you lack a little clubface control, so that needs a little work too.

But really, this is a Key #2 deal: weight forward. It's going forward throughout the backswing and then increasingly so throughout the downswing. You won't have 65-70% of your pressure right (pressure, not weight) at A4.

Here are some pictures.

    • This video got into my youtube feed. And I watched it.  But I'm confused why not spinning in "the revealer" is important to making putts.  Maybe I'm oversimplifying this, but it seems to me, your hands are holding the putter. So, it isn't going to spin when you swing it. The ball isn't that heavy so as to overpower my hands when I don't hit it dead center. If the ball was so heavy as to overpower my hands when I don't hit it dead center, than certainly it would be heavy enough to overpower the lie-angle balance, right?  Don't get me wrong. I like the demo. It's something they can show people and say "Look our putter is different." But the more I think about it the less I think this feature matters.  I have an open mind, however.  Let me know if there's really a benefit to this that I just don't understand.

    • Those are good. But they are like the Dan Marino of cookies, The Oatmeal Raisin is the Tom Brady of cookies. ... IMO ... 👍😜👍 Eh... I'll make the black and white cookie the Vinnie Testaverde of cookies. 👍👍... Once again, this is my opinion.
    • Do you have another son-in-law that you don't really like?  The answer to your question IMO is lessons. Many others have mentioned why.  BUT...... If you son in law is abnormally tall, or abnormally short, or has super long arms or super short legs or something like that, then at least a static fitting would be wise.  Having said that, just because lessons are likely to give him more improvement than new fitted clubs, doesn't mean you shouldn't give him the gift of new fitted clubs. There will still be some benefit there, plus, going through a fitting and getting shiny new clubs is fun. ... And golf should be fun.
    • Love me some Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. but it still comes in second to the Black and White (Half-Moon) cookie
