Golfers Rocco Mediate, Duffy Waldorf and Natalie Gulbis will play themselves in an upcoming episode of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."

The plot of the Jan. 21 edition of the CBS show centers on the discovery of the body of a star player during a high-profile tournament.

Mediate and Waldorf are two of the most colorful personalities on the PGA Tour. Gulbis, one of the most recognizable players in women's golf, appeared on "Celebrity Apprentice" last season.

Great. Now I have two more ball choices to contemplate: Fuschida's or Jupiters. When will it end...

Yeah, that and I can't wait for all the threads about where people can buy lasers or whether microwaving their golf balls will work.

I just finished watching this, i thought the entire episode was just a little flat. The plot was okay, the outcome was ironic, but the golf analysis was a little off, and it wasn't all that exciting. I don't really watch CSI so i don't know if it's always like this, it just struck me as not a very good episode. When they tested Danny's clubs to see if he cheated, they did so very unscientifically. Then, the guy who tested the balls said they were all clean, drops them on the floor and one bounces wayyyyy higher. Wouldn't someone watching Danny play have noticed this? and wouldn't he have been airmailing every green? I mean who trusts their caddy that much? I realize it's hard to include sports in TV drama shows, but a little more research would have done them some good

On a separate note, i enjoyed seeing Rocco, McCord, and Fehrety, but where was Natalie Gulbis? Or did i just miss her?

Did you blink? If so, that's why you missed it. She was briefly in the scene standing next to Waldorf where he was talking at the dinner. What a waste of resources, especially since Nat is a Vegas resident and this could have been written into the script and she given an extended role (friend of one of the CSI people who could consult her on the golf ball question perhaps?).

I watched and was reminded of why I can't stand these type of shows. Some of the crap they use in their analysis simply doesn't exist. And if it does exist it is either too expensive for nearly any law enforcement agency or takes much longer to do than is presented in the show.

I know that it is a fictional TV show, but the sad part is that there are people on the street that should be in jail because jurors think that these shows are real and use what they see as the basis for what the prosecution should present to them in the court.

I have more Hot Sports Opinions about this, but this isn't the proper forum for it.

Keller I agree with you on this, but if you take it for what it is: entertainment, then I think the show is a pleasure to watch.......

I know a CSI for a local PD and its NOTHING like the show. I wish more people would understand that

But I digress.....

When they tested Danny's clubs to see if he cheated, they did so very unscientifically. Then, the guy who tested the balls said they were all clean, drops them on the floor and one bounces wayyyyy higher. Wouldn't someone watching Danny play have noticed this? and

In a flashback to Danny's course record round of 62, the caddie hands him a 9i for one shot. Danny questions if that will be enough, and the caddie says "today it is." Remember, this caddie had hijacked Danny's psyche after dad said Danny "didn't have it" at age 19.

Show really played up that juiced Fuschida balls gave him a major advantage - with 20 extra yards off the tee. But, what impact would the laser-treated hot balls have on his putting and his short game? Wouldn't he knock a downhill putt 6 feet past the cup somewhere along the way? Like others have said, the top science drama came up a little short on its golf physics.

The suspension of reality is fine. I see it as a drama that a lot of people like, and that it fine. There are several movies that I think are great that are so ridiculous it is unreal. I know it is fake so I don't get bent about their methodology in the show. What I do care about, however is the standard of this and similar shows being looked for in a court of law.

Spoiler for pretty much every CSI episode made.

Seen that before and still think its funny.

Something else that I haven't seen mentioned is the fingerprint scenes. Unless you have a criminal record or a Concealed Handgun License (or whatever your state calls it) you will NOT have your fingerprints on file. Sure your thumb print may be taken for your drivers license, but that's it. The laser girl and caddy had records, but I don't remember anyone else they ID'ed having one.

Not really true. There are numerous professions that have fingerprints taken and are on file. Cvilian government employees and members of the armed forces are all printed, as well as many contractors working on government programs (years ago I was printed while working on classified projects and know that I'm in the AIFIS database) Also, those employed in law enforcement and related businesses also are typically printed and filed, I and believe many state bar associations require print files for attorneys. Finally, there are many other professions that have started requiring full prints for employees over the last few years, including health care workers and child care. Many states require employees of banks and other financial institutions to be printed; the accounting industry is one that is quite aggressive on this. It seems that we're getting close to having MOST workers and people having prints on file instead of just those with a criminal record or weapons license as you indicate.

I was disappointed to only get to see Natalie for about 5 seconds. I also wonder if microwaving golf balls would actually make that much of a difference in distance and if you could actually die from your driver head breaking off and getting stabbed by the broken shaft and bleeding to death. The guy was alone and it was late so there were no other people around which would have complicated things further.

Is this a nationwide thing or a California thing? Some of the people you mention I understand printing and filing, but not all. It is interesting that this many people have prints on file.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
