I had sent off an old Scotty Cameron TeI3 Newport putter to the SC Custom Shop as a Christmas gift from my wife. I bought the putter new back when I was still in high school (summer '98), and it basically had been sitting in my parent's garage since I went off to college. I pulled it out when I was back at their house over Thanksgiving, and the years of sitting out in the heat and humudity had taken it's toll. I sent it off to have a full restoration (new finish, shaft, grip, paintfill, headcover, shaftband). They can't put the original Black Pearl finish on it but offer an Charcoal Mist finish that has more of a matte black look. I instead had them put the Pro Platinum finish on it since I prefer a silver-colored putter head. I also had them put a sight line on the back flange (like the Newport 2 has) and had them stamp my initials on the right rear bumper (w/ orange paintfill). Here are a few pics:

Thats a great looking putter. I too want to have my initials stamped on the toe of my putter when I get it, but I dont know if I want to wait the 3 weeks to game the new scotty lol

May I ask what exactly you all had done and the price?

You have me thinking seriously about doing some customization work and maybe a little paint fill.

That's a beauty! Are you going to play with it or put it in a display case? A little shrine to Scotty

I had the following done to the putter:

- Pro Platinum finish (the putter used to have a shiny black finish) - new shaft - black Custom Shop shaftband - new black Baby-T grip - "Jackpot Johnny" headcover (I'm going to sell it because I want to use the original one) - my initials "MSD" stamped (they chose where to stamp them) - "Custom Shop" stamp on toe (required with Pro Platinum finsih since it was never a production offering on that model) - added sight line on the rear flange - paintfill restored to original except had them fill my initials with orange - lie bent 1* flat from original (to 70*) - loft bent 1* more than original (to 5*) - shorten 1/2" (to 34.5") If you go on www.scottycameron.com and look at the Custom Shop page, they have all the options listed and all the prices. The total cost for all the work I had done (w/out tax or shipping) was $332.

I'll probably use it some, but I recently got a Ping Redwood D66 that I'm absolutely in love with. It's going to take a lot to get that out of my bag anytime soon.

The Pro Platinum finish costs extra and requires them to stamp it with the "Custom Shop" stamp since it alters the original design of the putter.

If your Santa Fe is a TeI3 like mine (the model with the insert), the PP finsih gives the putter a noticably harder and clickier feel. I actually like the feel of the PP better because it has taken away the "mushy" feeling the putter had before.

Right after I posted my inquiries to you I went to the site. I was still curious as to exactly what you had done and for how much.

It looks neat. Something I'm definitely thinking about doing. I would do the initials, and customize the paint fill to the colors I want.

Doing that alone would cost me a little over $100.

Interesting, the Sante Fe is the TeI3 like yours and that insert is pretty mushy. I've got a Studio Select Newport 2 and much prefer the "click" of that putter face to the TeI3. I'm currently gaming the Button Back Newport limited edition from a couple years ago which has the teryllium insert which is a touch softer than the studio select and I love it. Thanks for the insight, you probably cost me about $300 :)

I know I'm bringing this back up from over a week ago, but if you want to just have paintfill done you can just do it yourself. Just use some acetone or nail polish remover to remove the paint, and pick up some model paint from your local hobby store to fill it back in. It'll save you quite a bit of money compared to sending it in to the Custom Shop.

    • I work with a lot of golfers who want more shaft lean at impact, who currently have AoAs that range from +2° to -2°, and who love to see the handle lower and more "in front of their trail thigh" from face-on at P6. And a lot of these golfers try to solve the issue by working on the downswing. They do something to drag the handle forward. Or they just leave their right thigh farther back so the same handle location "looks" farther forward. Or they move the ball back in their stance. Or they push themselves down into the ground to get the handle lower and increase (decrease?) their AoA (to be more negative). The real fix is often to get wider in the backswing. To do LESS in the backswing. To hinge less, fold the trail arm less, abduct the trail arm less. I had a case of this over the weekend. Before, the player had 110° of trail elbow bend, "lifted" his trail humerus only a few degrees, etc. The club traveled quite a bit around him, and he tended to "pick" the ball from the fairways. In the "after" swings below (which are mild exaggerations — this golfer does not need to end up at < 70° of elbow bend. These were slower backswings with "hit it as hard as you normally would" intent downswings), you can see that he bent his elbow about 70° instead of 110° and lifted his right arm an extra ~15° or more. You can't see how much less this moved his hands across his chest (right arm abduction), but it was also decreased. His hands stayed more "in front of" his right shoulder rather than traveling "beside" them so much. The two swings look like this: The change at P6, without talking about the downswing one little bit (outside of him telling me that he tends to pick the ball), is remarkable: Without 110° of elbow bend to get out (which he gets to 80°, a loss of 30°), the golfer actually loses slightly less elbow bend (70 - 50 = 20), but delivers 30° less elbow bend, lowering the handle and letting the elbow get "in front of" the rib cage… because it never got "behind" or "beside" the rib cage. If you look at this video showing the before/afters of P6, you'll note the handle location (both vertically and horizontally) and the shoulders (the ball is in the same place in these frames). This golfer's path was largely unaffected (still pretty straight into the ball, < 3° path and often < 1.5°), but his AoA jumped to -5° ± 2°. I've always said, and in talking with other instructors they agree and feel similarly, that we spend a lot of time working on the backswing. This is another example of why.
    • We had a member of our senior club who developed a mental block on pulling the trigger. I played with him to see what the membership was talking about. I timed him a few times when he would get over the ball. 45 seconds. He knew he had a mental block and would chide himself, “Just hit it!” Once on the green he was okay and chipping was a bit better. It was painful to watch him struggle. Our “bandaid” was to put him in the last tournament  tee time with two understanding players. We should have suggested to him to take a break from our tournaments. I agree with the idea that when a player realizes they have a problem, the answer is to go fix it and not return until they are able to play at an acceptable pace.
    • Day 56 (4 May 26) - Worked on some ball-then-ground drills - going from P3 thru impact - with a slowed tempo, working to keep all parts in sync.
