He will soon turn 43 years old and hasn't won a major before, but this guy is one of the best players in the world now. He is a good ball striker, putts and scrambles well. Sometimes he seemed to put too much pressures on himself on the final few holes at times last season or he could have won a couple more times, but he seemed to improve on it a bit at the end of last season. He had a great year last season, but wasn't really contending in the majors. What do you all think of his chances to win a major this season. I like his chance, especially if Tiger doesn't return by the Masters this season.

I don't think he will, though I would love to see him win one. I don't think this year's courses will set up well for his game. Perhaps his best chance will be at Pebble Beach for the US Open. I don't like his chances at Augusta, St. Andrews or Whistling Straits.

Substitute his name for that of 100 other players who will have just as good a chance and whose records indicate that they are "due". You may as well be asking what the lottery numbers are going to be in a year's time.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I voted no. As shaky as he can be at times down the stretch I'm not sold on his winning the LA Open this year yet... Though a five-shot lead with 22 holes to play is a fairly big help.

He's got the game to win one for sure, his head is usually the biggest barrier for winning major championships. He hasn't shown more confidence the last couple of months I've seen him, so I don't think he'll win one, but I sure hope he does. Stricker is one of my favourite players on the PGA Tour.

If he had the mental strength of Tiger, he'd be winning a lot more.

Not sure on this one. He has the ability as do many others. I love his swing. It is simple and consistant. I hope he wins one but it is really hard to say.

I'm thinking this is Steve's Big Breakout Year! (Of course i've been saying that for 2 years ...)

He will. I think he is becoming more confident with the lead. He closed out two tournaments well last year after the breakthrough at Colonial. He'll need that bit of luck to be on his side during one of the majors. I'll be rooting for him for sure.

If Stricker keeps hitting his irons well and keeps putting well, he has a very good chance of winning a major this year. When Stricker's putter gets hot, he is almost unbeatable.

Him with the lead at Whistling Straits would be a great story.

Good on him to win today, though he was leading with 6 shots and won with two. The more he wins on the regular events, the better he will be prepared for the big ones.

It would be good to see him win.

Watching him play late last year and just recently I think he has a very good chance to win one this year, even if Tiger manages to jump back into the fray. It looks like he has made his shortened swing very consistent, which is amazing considering he was playing so bad a few years back.

2011 Goals:
* Improve club-head speed to 90 mph with the driver
* Ensure increased speed does not compromise accuracy
* Prevent overextending on the back-swing (left-arm is bending too much at the top)
* Relax arms initially at address ( too tense)* Play more full rounds (failed from 2010)

With his steady game and calm demeanor, i cant see why Stricker shouldnt be considered a favorite to win a major or two this season. He gets quick sometimes and gets the hooks, but i dont see it as a huge issue with his putting and short game.

I'd say he has about a 15-25% chance of winning one, so I voted no. I think he WILL win one, but not sure when. There are at least 10-15 players I think must eventually win one, and another 5 who I think will win more... so it's just a matter of timing.

I think he is has a really good chance to win a major this year. He is playing with confidence and really there is no one putting better than Strick right now. I give him the PGA or at least perhaps the Players (5th Major IMO; Best field out of any of them).

    • You can pre-order an R50 here for pretty rapid shipping (these are back-ordered almost everywhere): https://www.playbetter.com/products/garmin-approach-r50-golf-launch-monitor-simulator?ghref=2301%3A700794. This is an affiliate purchase, and I'm willing to kick back lifetime ad-free Supporter membership here on TST or a 90-minute GEARS session for the cost of a regular member lesson (about 1/3 the cost). Also, I'll record a video myself soon when I get an R50.
    • Day 58 - 2024-11-27 Some quick 90-yard shots on a particular hole… before a lesson and testing out multiple Foresight Launch Monitors on GSPro.
    • Day 209 (27 Nov 24) - Easy session with the LW - short pitches replicating greens side up and downs. Finished up with the 7i and hard foam balls - making 1/2 to 3/4 swings with deliberately slowed tempo…from varied lies.
    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
