I have always loved Callaway's drivers, and am considering purchasing one of their new drivers. What I am wondering is if anyone knows what the difference is between the Ft Tour and the Ft iZ? Is the Ft Tour a better driver, but just harder to hit?

Thanks

The website indicates that the FT Tour has a 1.5 degree open face. The FT iZ has between a square and 1 degree closed face (depending on the loft). The FT iZ is also a bit heavier in terms of swing weight.
Driver: Taylormade Tour Burner 9.5Β° | Fairway Wood: Adams Speedline Fast 10 15Β° | Irons: Mizuno MP-57 3-PW | Wedges: Cleveland CG11 52Β° 56Β° 60Β° | Putter: Odyssey White Hot XG Rossie

The FT iz is their game improvement model -- more forgiving, but less workable than the FT Tour.
Driver: Callaway Diablo Edge 10*
Woods: Mizuno F-60 (15*, 18*); Hybrids: Callaway FT-iZ 21*, Callaway X 24*
Irons: Mizuno MX 25 (5I - GW)
Wedges: Mizuno MP T Chrome (56/10), MP T-10 Black Satin (60/8)
Putter: Odyssey White Hot Tour #9

I saw Ernie hitting the IZ at Riviera last week.

I was at the Callaway factory last week getting fit for a new set. I didn't even think of hitting the IZ. Did hit the Diablo Edge and FT Tour. I really like the feel of the Tour. So much that I'm replacing my FT9 with it.

Was the ft tour a low launch/low spin club???

My natural ball strike is both low launch and low spin. I would say that it is definitely built for low spin. My spin rate was 2067rpm according to the launch monitor. Ball flight though?

Thinking about picking up an FT-iZ.

A) You need to hit alot of different clubs.
B) Whatever works for you.
C) It's the indian, not the arrow.
D) A 5 wood, 19* hybrid or a lob wedge.

It really depends on what you're looking for. I bought the FT Tour and then returned it for my Cleveland but only because of the price difference. The FT Tour is a great driver. I hit the FT-iz this past year and I'm not the biggest fan of the head shape...its also got a slightly closed head which makes a big difference for some people...

It's a straight and forgiving driver. The price right now is a little high. If I was you I would wait a little for the price to drop. Your best bet though is to demo it on a course. It is the only way you will know if you like it.

The Ft-iq(earlier model) is available for cheaper than the iz. It might be worth doing a demo with that to save some money.

i agree with the price being a bit too high. at that price, you have a slough of other (many better imo) drivers to choose from...

I've demoed the FT-iQ and found it too straight. I can summon up a nice little fade when required. Couldn't do it with the FT-iQ. I've hit the iZ in an indoor range and it felt OK....but you obviously can't tell where it's going.

I have the FT iZ tried it at the indoor range it was ok. Out at the outdoor range i was having a problem with a draw well, a slice. But I have since fixed that with a "strong" grip, and it seems to work well. I dont have a prob with the distance just the consistency. But I do look forward to hitting driver now, when before I would look for an excuse to keep it in the bag .

Just so you know, a draw moves slightly from left to right, where a slice moves from right to left. It would be a draw becoming a hook or a fade becoming a slice.

Mike295 is a lefty, so your directions are backwards, but it does seem like he has draw/hook and slice/fade wrong.

I just purchased an iZ for $200 bucks. I haven't played with it yet but I love the way it feels and it seems to have significantly reduced my fade/slice. My test drives were a little shorter than my best but I'll take straight over long and ob any day! I'll post again after playing a round.

Great deal on that club, that's what I paid for the FT-9.

    • I'll try to post a bit more here as the season moves on.  Yesterday was my first "referee gig" this year, the first of a two-day event for juniors.  No real unusual rulings, but a couple of slightly complicated situations with two consecutive drops.  There's a hole with a Red Penalty Area down the right, with a cart path running parallel.  On a couple of occasions a player had to take Penalty Area relief.  Two clublengths from the point of entry required dropping no further left than the center of the cart path.   Once that relief procedure was completed, he took relief from the cart path.  Due to the relatively small distance between the path and the PA, the Nearest Point of Complete Relief was to the "fairway side" of the path.  I made the Player consider a drop to the PA side, with the player's feet clear of the path (i.e. complete relief from interference), but that would have put the drop in the Penalty Area, which isn't acceptable. Something which I now see as common, this 36-hole event is defined as four 9-hole stipulated rounds.  This is done so that, if bad weather sets in, there can be legitimate results if everyone has completed at least 9 holes.
