Right now there is 10 inches of snow on the grounds so I have time to strategize and put some pocket change in a jar. Anyone have any recomendations on what else I should put in the bag?

Some specs of my game...

Driver = 230 +/- 20yds (Slice 30%, Straight 68%, Hook 2%)
3i = 190 w/ 10 yard gaps down to PW
PW = 110
Right now I use the PW from 25yd up to 110.
25yd and lower= I chip wit a hands forward putting style stroke. (PW-7i)

I agree with this recommendation. If you wanted to play four wedges (adding a lob wedge), then I'd suggest dropping the 3-iron. Your 20* hybrid is going to be pretty similar distance wise.

Add a sand wedge and save room for beer.

Does 1-iron make a fairway wood?

Pretty much what everybody else said.

If you hit your 3 iron well, you may want a stronger hybrid than 20* or as eltreams said if the 3 iron is not good then drop it for the 20*.

Also, if you hit your 3 iron well, you might consider a fairway wood or hybrid or one of the fairways like the Bobby Jones in the 15-18* range that will be a useful all around club and fill in the gap between the driver and 3 iron. The right one will be your go to club for a lot of shots.

I am a one wedge man and will defer to the others on here with the latest wedge technology for those suggestions.

I would drop the 3i if you get a hybrid no need for it, also I agree with everyone else get some wedge sand, gap, and get your self a 3 wood.

GW, SW sounds good. LW takes a lot of practice to get the feel.

If you hit the 3i well, consider a TaylorMade 19* Raylor to go with a 3W. Raylor is a trouble club - first cousin of hybrid - and has some interesting design features you might like. ("Boat-hull" sole has 23% less ground contact than most such clubs, according to the TM ads)

It depends, do you hit your 3i, how consistent???, how high do you hit it???

I would say, add a hybird/ 5 wood. Depends what you like. I would suggest a 19 not a 20, thats just me. ( if you get a 19, you would not need to take the 3i out since there should be getting a little bit more dist with the 19)
Add a 3 wood for sure, and sand and maybe a lob. Depending on how you like your bag set up.

don't get a load of clubs at once.
Slowly add a few to the bag so that you'll only focus on 1 club at a time.
A Sand Wedge has to be your first buy, you need it to hit out of bunkers properly and it's good for around the greens.

Then maybe have a look at a hybrid to replace the 3i you'll probably hit it further and better.

after that see if there's any gaps in your game just don't go out and buy 3-4 clubs at once.

4-wood, 7-wood, 54-degree wedge, 58-degree wedge... 7-wood hits it higher than every hybrid on the market... more control... on the wedge front I believe 1-iron golf's SW is 55 degrees and the LW is 59 degrees... you don't really absolutely need a 51-degree wedge...

staying humble... I don't carry a gap wedge because frankly... with the lofts of my irons... I don't need one...

but i digress the 4-wood will give you just as much distance as a 3-wood... especially hitting it 230 with the driver... then a 7-wood... you'll get like a 230, 215, 200 gap something to that effect...

Great responses from all. I knew the SW was a must and 1Iron has one with extra bounce compared to the rest of the set and wedges. I think 3W will be my next. I'm kind of old school and switching over to a hybrid will be weird for me mentally. I hit the 3i okay. You convinced me to go the one at a time route.

Farm Kid, if you are really a 20 HC with just those clubs I suggest you are on the right track without help from anyone on this forum. You should be telling us how you practice and what you think is the next step in your plan.

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

First of all, I totally agree with the one club at a time principle, and that you should get a sand wedge first that you like the feel of.
However, for your next club I wouldn't necessarily jump at a 3 wood like some people are suggesting. I personally find them really hard to hit off the ground carry a 5 wood instead. Obviously you are not me and may hit them fine. Just make sure you hit the range and try out some 3 woods and see if you like them before you commit a lot of money to them (I have made this mistake).
Anyway, I'll add one more thing. I've learned that when messing around with bag setups always stick with what works. Like if you find some old piece of crap sand wedge from goodwill, but it gets that ball where you want it to go, you stick with it.

I barely even hit my woods anymore.

No point hitting a 50-50 shot at the green when you can lay up and hit a wedge on.
