I just recently heard Tommy Armour III respond to a question about his recent good play and how much he intends to play on the senior tour -- I am paraphrasing, but he said "the bottom line is that I just love to play golf....and that's it."

Do you think Tiger Woods loves golf?

I personally don't think he loves golf.......

I think he does. I think he lost touch with that love a bit, and sometimes it's muddied by general love of "competition," but we all do that from time to time. I've seen Tiger goofing around with friends, hitting shots on the range, and other things that tell me he's crazy about the game too.

I think he likes to win at golf. Weather or not he loves to play the game is something we will never know until he retires.

He has to love golf. Especially now that he hasn't played in a while, he must have the urge to play.

With all of the money he has, what exactly are the other motivations he has to play?

There was a quote from Arnold Palmer many years ago (early 1970s?) where he said that Jack did not love golf to the degree that he did and Jack agreed. Whereas when Arnie wasn't playing golf he was tinkering with his swing and more so his clubs, Jack was more content to go fly fishing. So, maybe Tiger doesn't love golf anymore, but likes it just enough to accomplish his ultimate goal of winning the most majors, just like Jack.

i think TW loves golf but i think he loves competition even more. TW is like MJ, he just wants to beat you. it doesn't matter if you're tying your shoes, he wants to do it better than you. that's what i love about guys like that, they just enjoy the competition, that's what drives them. i've always been the same way, just not to their level. if i'm just playing round with my friends, i feel like i have to win, no...sorry, i mean i feel like i have to BEAT them. that's why TW will come back to the game sooner than later, he has to prove to himself that after all this crap off the course, he's still the best on it.

I don't see how anyone as good as him could not love the game. Try doing something you dislike for a while and see how well you do.

Yes, I think Tiger loves golf. I think he loves the challenge of playing golf. I think he loves the opportunities that golf has provided for him. I think he loves being the best in the world at what he does.

It's a shame absolute power corrupts absolutely. I think Tiger should come back because what he does on the course is amazing. The problem is you can't have Tiger in a vacuum. He will keep making money, doing endorsements, and he has to leave his house. His 15 hours/day that aren't golf related are his problem.

I compare him to Delonte West in a way. Their respective sports are their sanctuary and their safe haven, its what they love doing. To take someone who has a problem and take away their only comfort mechanism will only amplify their problem.

Short answer: Yes... He won't be able to get healthy if he can't golf.

I believe guys like, Nicklaus and Tiger love to compete and win, golf just happened to be what they were good at. I believe Arnold Palmer loved to play golf. I was a very good runner and competed at it for a long time, but once I was not competetive I quit completely. Some of my contemporaries are still running and beginning to compete in master and senior events, they love to run.

We've seen him mad at his shots and look like he's just plain angry for 4 hours straight. Whether Tiger loves or hates the game, he seems to have strong feelings (mixed emotions?) about it.

When I think about someone who truly "loves golf" I wouldn't think about a tour pro. They may have loved it once. They may love it again, but for now it's their job. I'd think of somebody who's teaching little kids to play or maybe someone with a disability (like a blind kid I saw golfing in Quebec) who found out golf is a sport they can participate in.

This might the be first and last time i will ever hear of delonte west and tiger woods mentioned in the same sentence.

I think Tiger's poor actions on the course the last couple years had more to do with his off course life getting the best of him.

I dont think that is the case. He has always been short tempered on the course. But then again he might have been always chasin dennys waitresses, so you could be right.

    • Day 7: got out my chipping net and worked on chipping in the living room for a solid 15 minutes. Worked on mostly low shots, but mixed in a couple of high shots as well.
    • Day 228 4-4 More hip/chest turn and wrist arching. Working on hinging wrist a bit later. Foam balls.
    • Day 27 (4 Apr 26) - Worked with grandson on basic pitches/punches in the back yard with varied irons/wedges.  Wrapped up the day rolling some putts on the 30’ carpet I can set up in the yard to give varied terrain - and this carpet rolls almost too easy. A great way to figure a read and know that pace has to be near perfect to get in the hole.
    • A bit of a struggle today.  Just some thoughts/musings.  For the backswing, it is like I am never going to be moving on from this. I don't know if I can ever get to the point where the backswing isn't like over 1.5 seconds in duration. Which is probably not ideal. I would like to get to the point where I can just fling the arms back and up.  I have to feel like my hands are going to hit my right thigh from P1 to P2. If not then they like to move 2-5 inches towards the ball from P1 to P2. Then it's just bad from there. This feeling is my hands not gaining much depth, just maintaining depth from set up. From the DTL view, the hands head towards the camera.  While I am doing that, hinge the crap out of the club with my wrist only. Hinge in a way that the club is pointing at the camera at P2.  From P2, lift the hands straight up. I can get here, and still roll the club inside and get it way too shallow.  With the downswing. There isn't much here. I still can't get the flow of this or the sequencing of this to line up. It doesn't help that hinging from P1 to P2 just throws off my entire timing as well.
    • Day 550 - 2026-04-04 Practiced in the sim at a club for awhile. Did a SW ladder and practiced for awhile with my 7I.
