guess you've never heard cobra drivers if you don't like Nike SUMO'S.

Ya. The Cobra's have a pop to em. My old Taylormade R5 was also loud. I would get people 10 stalls down looking at me when I hit it. Well, it was either the sound or me shanking it towards their stall like the 36+ handicap I was.

I don't think my current Titleist is loud at all.

I don't mind the noise. I had a guy next to me at the range with his kids telling them to be quiet.

Are you serious

!?!?! Overstepping your boundaries a bit aren't you chief? There would be problems beyond all comprehension if some random person told my children to defy me. Might want to mind your own business next time. Back to the OP. Banned….hell no. Are some annoying, yes. Better learn to deal with it because there is no chance they will ban drivers.

The only time drivers should be banned from the driving range is in instances like at the course I play here in AR; it's a two-sided range and it's only about 270ish yards long. The practice green is at the far end, and everytime you go down there you test your luck because there is always some dumba** at the other end slicing his driver in your direction.

to me the sound of a purely hit driver is relaxing.......

I don't mind the noise. I had a guy next to me at the range with his kids telling them to be quiet. I turned and said it's the driving range, make as much noise as you want kids. I just hate when people go to the range looking for absolute quiet like they are warming up for the PGA.

I would think mentioning to the guy that the noise doesn't bother you would be a good choice. But to overstep his parenting and encourage the parents to defy his direction is going a little far isn't it?

I see this sort of sentiment a lot, but I really don't understand it. At some point, you have to practice with the driver. I just got a new one and it's taking some time to find how to hit the sweet spot since it's very different from my old one. There's no way I'm going to work this out other than by spending a bit of focused effort on that club. Sure, it's clear that the driver is not the most important club for your score, so spending all your time bashing it mindlessly is not a good recipe for success, but it certainly is important to be able to hit it.

Generally speaking, the amount of time spent on the driver is inversely proportional to the handicap. The driver is great, but too many people spend far too much time practicing with it. It's a club that can really mess you up fast, as it encourages a long and fast swing, and 99% of people swing out of their shoes at it.

I do hate people who bitch about talking on the range. It's a range, it's where you practice, and that includes talking to someone often. I hit the range usually 6 days a week, but I go to a range with no stalls, no mats, and no limited flight balls. It's great because you get a good idea of your distances, and you practice honest golf shots, not hitting from a mat.

quite possibly the stupidest topic yet....seriously, BAN drivers....umm...yeah ok...GREAT idea bro
maybe you should hit yours more often and get the hcp down from a 14????

anyways.......

driver should and WILL always be "allowed", unless like an above mentioned poster said w the dual sided ranges
we have one of these here too......annoying if you need to work on the big dawg

I am one of those loud driver guys and I get embaressed at the range sometimes. I have a KZG Q and it is the loudest thing ever, however it is the best driver I ever hit. Last night at the range the guy next to me asked if they gave out ear plugs when you buy the thing. I just laughed but he was pretty serious.

No argument there, it's an important club, but a specialty club. I only take it out when either I want to put in some dedicated time working on it, when I've practiced the other clubs already, or when I just need to relax a little (because hey, it's fun). But for all the reasons it can screw up your other clubs it's also one you need to practice.

I don't have a problem generally, as long as it's just talking. Shouting, horsing around, etc, is too much IMO. I've run into this a bit lately from some high school teams, but generally they've been reasonably well-behaved. Still, I prefer if there's not inane chatter between every shot...

I think most would agree that a good swing can hit a driver well. Go to the range, and even Tiger hits his drivers very well, but he also swings smooth and in control. Then watch as he gets to the first tee, it's an all out lash at the ball. Of course, that's him, and that's his one flaw. The thing is, that's like the one thing he does like so many amatuers. I would say that each pro's flaw is an amatuer move that they kept.

Well, not that, but just conversation at a normal volume, the kind you hear at every range. Some 80 year old man once seemed to have a problem with that. I don't even mind the high school kids, where I live, they are quite well behaved, and being in Florida, they have quite a number of scratch golfers on each team.

Banning drivers doesn't do too much unless A. there is someone there to actually do something about it/monitor the range, and B. The range would have to be visible from wherever the person is observing from. This is why even though it was a smart decision to ban drivers (and anything you could hit over 250?) at my home course, people still did it anyway. The driving range is a short walk from the club house, but its semi-guarded by a row of trees. The reason it was banned though was because there is a factory next door to the range (who called and complained) and people were purposely hitting balls over the treeline to hit cars or the building (which I'm convinced was the high school team kids, cuz they did it back when I was on the team). 250 was also the max distance before the balls started going down into a ravine full of deep brush where the range picker couldn't go :/ Moral of the story: people will use it regardless haha.

Whenever I go to the range, which is usually if I have a friend with me, we shoot the shit, and talk so do most people, and I am used to hearing, ahh what a slice.. or damn, that didn't look good it is the range, so get used to the noise.

what you are supposed to do if driving isn't allowed at a driving range

Mosey on down to the putting green and grip it and rip it, I guess.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
