So I'm on our long par 3 today. It's 185 to the middle and I've gotta hit my 3w perfect to get to there. Anyway, I end up just a bit short which if fine because the pin is five paces from the front. A very simple bump and run shot and not that I have a ton in my game to brag about but this is certainly one. I can usually (7 out of 10) get it close enough to one putt. I'm thinking great, two pars in a row. Anyway, running parallel to the hole is a road with very little traffic. So, I'm over the ball, right as I start my downswing a car BLASTS it freaking horn (car was prolly 20 yards away tops)!!!! I shanked the shot as it skulled past the hole!! Nothing to do but I can say that I cheated! I re-dropped and hit it to 2 feet and tapped it in. I'll say that I'm not a part of an official handicap program or anything. I just keep up with it and I count all my mis-hits and things but I could not bring myself to count that one!! I was playing alone as well!! Anyway, WTH would someone do that??? I have to say I don't feel bad at all for writing down par. Obviously if I'd been playing for something, I'd have counted it but given it was just me and some alone time, I couldn't do it!!!

Thoughts???

Happens all the time. I played on two courses consistently that have golf holes running along side the road. Alot of times i hear a honked horn, and someone yelling, "FORE".. Its just idiots being idiots.

Writing down a par is up to you. If its a casual game, its fine. But in a tournament, you have to deal with it. There isn't any rules about replaying a shot from being distracted. Even Tiger has gotten mad at a person who takes a picture in his downswing, but he doesn't replay the shot.

Yeah its definitely not uncommon. There is a course around here with a par 4 that has a train running along side it. Every time the train goes by the conductor honks his horn. I see a lot of people give the train the finger when he does it, pretty funny.

No doubt if something on the line, I'd have counted the stroke! Given todays circumstances, I'm fine with it. I'll better prepare on that hole from now on!!!!!

At the end of the day, golf is a battle against yourself. Outside interferences like that takes the battle outside of yourself (if you know what I mean)

You've pretty much done exactly what I would do in that situation. But it's amazing how many things can distract me when I over the ball. But sometimes the same things don't distract me.

As long as you can sleep at night, knowing you've done what's fair to you. As you said, in a comp round, it's just bad luck. Get the license plate and hunt the bastard down! lol

Yeah, there's a par-3 at a course in Orange County that I play sometimes that has a street right nearby. It's not uncommon for an idiot to drive by, honk their horn or yell, and continue. They probably think it's quite funny. One time, I was playing there and it happened, and the next thing I heard was a police siren, pulling over the offending car. I didn't stick around to ask what he's being charged with, but I suspect noise ordinance or something.

My teams' high school baseball field has a road right behind the outfield fence and people always drive by and lay on their horn.

Same with my home course. Two holes run right beside a road and people will drive by and honk, yell "Fore!", or say something golf related just to be an idiot.

I can't stand holes near streets! We've got a few on my course. Just knowing a car is coming distracts me enough to think better of trying to pull off a shot. On the smaller streets, if I hear a car coming, I'll just wait. Horn honkers are just plain ignorant.

I think replaying the shot is fine in that situation, as you said, it wasn't like you were playing for money. Even then, even when playing for a few bucks, many guys I know would give me the shot again.

Completely fine with me. What I would have done after making par with the second ball, is see what you would have made with the skulled shot, if it actually counted.
