Mizuno MX 700...wow!

I don't see much chatter about these clubs on the board so figured I'd put up this little review for anyone in the used driver market.

Had a little cash to burn so I took a long lunch today and hit the local shops. I wasn't looking for anything in particular. Second shop is attached to a driving range so I like to shop there as I'm able to do "research" on clubs, and back to back comparisons. It's also slightly downhill, so I can verify carry distances when hitting driver.

They had a MX 700 in the rack, only the second one I've seen in used racks. I was interested due to the review on this site so I grabbed my 9015D as a "control", and took it for a spin. First of all, it's a huge headed driver, similar in shape to the '07 Burner. The shaft feels a bit week to flex, but not bad. Took a bit to get accustomed to the club, as it's a higher swingweight then my 9015/Saga combo. Once I got it figured out I was very surprised by the distance I was getting. There is a low barb wire type fence at the end of the range, somewhere behind the 250 signs. Whether or not it's an accurate distance doesn't matter, it's my frame of reference. Well struck shots will fall 10yds short of the fence for me, if I hammer one I will get it within 5yds. Today, I flew it three times with the MX 700, I can't recall every flying it before and I've hit every driver available at that range.

Ball flight is mid/high but never ballooned for me. The shaft is a bit weak, as stated, so a smoother swing is needed I found. Otherwise, it's point and shoot. As expected, it's quite forgiving. It has the aluminum bat sound that is similar to a Hibore XL, and it does not have particularly good feel between well struck and mediocre shots. But, I will accept those drawbacks for the straight ball flight and huge carry I was seeing.

I'm definitely interested in one of these. Having used an R5 for the past 5+ years, I'm looking for an upgrade. It's between the MX700 and the Burner 2009 at this point. Gotta hit em both I suppose.

The MX-700 is a great driver. If I hadnt won an R9 last year, Id probably be gaming an MX-700 right now.

Went and hit both the MX700 and the Burner 09 and ultimately went with the Burner. There just was something weird about the MX that I can't put my finger on. It was almost too muted when it came to feel compared to the Burner. I'm a TM guy anyway, so it could be a mental bias, but I was definitely hitting a little further with the Burner as well. The MX was nice, don't get me wrong, but all things being equal (price), the Burner seemed like a better fit for me.

And ET---maybe TitleistWI had titleist clubs previously...you can't change your username every time you get a new set of clubs, can you? :)

sorry, but I'm not impressed, in fact "The Hammer" boasts of the same distance and straighter flight as this driver and we all know what a piece of "The Hammer" is LOL

I tried the MX-700 and did not like it at all. I tried the stock stiff and it did not work for me. Maybe another shaft would have been better? But was not impressed. My favorite was the R9.

I'm down with the Hammer. I want a lefty one so I can practice my left handed recoveries in the trees!

I have the MX-700 hybrid an 3-wood. I absolutely love the 3-wood, especially the shaft. There is something about it that just feels awesome when swinging. Might be the fact that the shaft his thicker than my driver and 5-wood, but all of them are stiff. The 3-wood is my favourite club in the bag, but I haven't tried the driver.

I have the 2 hybrid MX 700. It is alright, but I would like to replace it.

Could be. The shaft has a lot to do with the feel and performance of a club. Ive talked to a lot of people who werent impressed with the R9, they claimed its a steam backwards for TM in terms of distance.

Hit the course with the MX 700 today, with mixed results. My swing sucked, so I hit 4/14 FWY. That said, three were very close to being on and I had easy shots to the green. Also, two of them were actually hit "too" well, and blew through the fairway on doglegs. I can't say it's a magic combo as it won't fix my over the top move, but it does hammer the ball when I put a decent swing together. It will definitely stay in the rotation.
