Lets move west and head to New Awlens....or New Orleans.

Who's picking who for #3, Runner-up, and Champion of the Zurich?
#3- David Toms
Runner-Up- Steve Stricker
Champion- Ian Poulter

I'd love to see John Daly and David Duval play well though...Should be a a great tourney to watch! Although I think much of the golfing eyes are looking to next week.

As I mentioned in one of my first posts after the Davis ruling incident, the word “hazard” changes things totally.

As I read it and have had it read to me, “one cannot touch or move an object “in a hazard” if it is a loose impediment. If the grass was fixed / growing, he could have touched it on his backswing without penalty. Since it was loose he couldn’t. And, he couldn’t move it if it was attached, but he could touch it.

New Orleans, wow, what a place. I’ve been there many times and the food is the best in the world. One must have a palate for spicy food. The Zurich Classic has been around a while, although it doesn’t draw big name guns, it’s a relaxer after the Masters.

Stricker has withdrawn, Boo is playing hurt, Davis is still in shock over his penalty call, (his mental state will be shot for a couple of weeks), Baddeley is one of the best putters and these greens are huge, 3 putts will be plentiful. Choi is getting complacent, Romero is hungry for a win, Garcia is still playing around with the ladies, ( he was seen with 2 different chicks in the same night Sunday) and is play hurt, Weir’s putter is on fire, will he keep it that way. Poulter has pulled out due to an injury.

Here are some side bets to choose from, go ahead and see how you do, they are for Thursday and Friday’s play.

I don't know how you feel about CH3, but he's up for a good story now. Second-place finishes for a while, never missed a cut here, wants

desperately to get back into his hometown major. Put together two good rounds last week. It's a great story if he does well.

Who would I want to see winning?

David Duval or Sergio Garcia, although I prefer Duval.

Most elite players are taking this week off to prepare for the Quail Hollow-Players one-two coming up; New Orleans has attracted the weakest field the tour has seen since the Bob Hope. Expect a journeyman or first-timer to take home the hardware.

Fact: Eleven of the last twenty PGA Tour events in New Orleans have been claimed by first-time winners. Ian Woosnam won this event three weeks before his Masters victory in 1991; Lee Westwood's only American win to date was here in 1998; Carlos Franco went back-to-back in 1999 and 2000.

Anyone else watching the latest Segio horror show?I'm starting to feel depressed just watching it.Sergio's miserable, his caddie is miserable, commentators are miserable.. Going from pine needles to bunkers to straight into trees onto pine needles again.

Another good instance of 'I'm going to cut this around this tree in front of me.. oops, I've hit it straight into the tree'.
A great shot is when you go for it and pull it off. A smart shot is when you don't have the guts to try it. ~ Phil Mickelson.

Sergio did a good job demonstrating how to NOT shape a shot, using the "old" ball flight laws. He aimed his body to the left of a tree, wanting to hit a fade or slice around it, a lot of left to right movement. I didn't see where he aimed his club face, but probably directly at the tree. After all, Sir...Nick Faldo tells us to aim the club face where we want the ball to land. He pretty much hit the ball right into the tree, which bounced it 70 yards back.

Amazing how the all-known knowledge about the ball flight laws has been wrong for so long. Someone has probably known it, but if you searched after it on the internet some years ago, you would likely find most using the wrong laws.

To hit that shot correctly, he would have to aim his body twice the distance the club face should be aimed. If to the left of the tree was 20 degrees from the target, he would have to aim his body at 40 degrees, leaving the club face at 20 degrees left of the target, 20 degrees open to his swing path.

and let's not forget the club throwing into the woods after a missed 125 yarder lol

There off and running down in N. O. Who will make the cut and who will pull out his lap top, put a zero in the money column and a couple of minus’s for expenditures and looks for a flight home. One lousy putt can mean a plus or minus. Believe it or not, there are some guys on the tour who are just making it. Normally, if they win, they make about 60% after expenditures. Some greenside banter, I’ve know this for a long time and it just confirms the stuff that I hear. Jim Furyk has really never been one of my favorites. He’s a cheap sob, he paid his caddy going rate, no bonus, nothing extra. He’s not a gentleman on the course, takes a long time at “bat” and doesn’t talk to his playing partners. He also doesn’t take his hat off on the 18th green at the end of play salutations, if you all noticed. I’ve seen it before. I just don’t take kindly to him. If he asked me to play 18 with him, I’d pass.
Who are some of the guys you would love to have join you for 18?

I’ve played with some of the pro’s in my life, but they’re now on the senior tour, lol. Of the bottle rockets, Sergio, Camilo, Boo, of the “old steamers” , John, Choi, Love.

I was at the tournament this morning and followed Duval, Snedeker, and Herron. Duval's putting took off on the back nine and put him in solid contention. I hope he does well tomorrow.

Daly hit an awesome shot on 13 to drive the green and I was glad I saw that. He had the largest following of the day for sure.

Not sure who I'll follow tomorrow. I might try to mix it up a little and hit multiple groups for a few holes.

I do think there is a strong chance for a first time winner this week after seeing the scores today.

    • You can pre-order an R50 here for pretty rapid shipping (these are back-ordered almost everywhere): https://www.playbetter.com/products/garmin-approach-r50-golf-launch-monitor-simulator?ghref=2301%3A700794. This is an affiliate purchase, and I'm willing to kick back lifetime ad-free Supporter membership here on TST or a 90-minute GEARS session for the cost of a regular member lesson (about 1/3 the cost). Also, I'll record a video myself soon when I get an R50.
    • Day 58 - 2024-11-27 Some quick 90-yard shots on a particular hole… before a lesson and testing out multiple Foresight Launch Monitors on GSPro.
    • Day 209 (27 Nov 24) - Easy session with the LW - short pitches replicating greens side up and downs. Finished up with the 7i and hard foam balls - making 1/2 to 3/4 swings with deliberately slowed tempo…from varied lies.
    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
