Would you buy a custom shaft with above $200 price tag? What do you consider?

I would with one of three conditions.

One, I will have hit the shaft/head combination and know that it works for me. I would never do it blindly, unless... Two, the is some sort of money back option if I didn't really like it. If I was to pay for it and use it, didn't like it, and could go back to my old shaft with no loss in money other than labor, fine. Three, it better be the best damn driver I have ever hit. At that cost, I better not have to buy something new for many years.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Nope, i might throw down 100-120 for a golf shaft, but to me the techonology in shafts arn't that progressive. As long as its an x-stiff and tour weight its good for me.

If I demo'd a shaft that gave me a consistent 5yds distance and three yards tighter dispersion and I knew it was "the one", I'd pay $200 for it.

I put a Diamana Whiteboard in my driver.
PX's in the irons and Creation shafts in my woods....

I look for distance, ball flight, control and the feel when i'm looking into a new shaft.... and if all those are right..it promotes confidence....so with that...I say spend the $

At this point in my game no. that $200 is better spent some place else (lessons, range time for practice, etc)

However, when you consider a new driver from callaway / taylor made / NIke can easily cost $300, and the shaft is the most important piece of hte club, I don't think that spending $200 on a shaft is not that extreme.

My theory is simply is that $200 the best way to improve your game for $200? I would imagine that you have to be a 10 handicap or better before you will really see an improvement on the score card that is worth the investment. However, people spend alot more than $200 on new drivers, new sets of irons, etc and get no results on the score card.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

Nope, but then again I wouldn't spend $200 on a complete driver.

This, $200 for a single club or staft is too expensive for a cheap bastage like me

That's a tough one... I think I would if it was really something I wanted but since I'm happy where I am I wouldn't right now. Not much of an answer... Yes, when it comes down to it I would spend it. That's the price of a 2 rounds at a nice course. The shaft should give you many rounds of great performance. I justify my purchases with trade offs.

swing harder! five yards is nothing.

Guess I should have been more clear, if the shaft gave me 5yds MORE then other shafts, or better dispersion, and I knew it was the perfect shaft, I'd spend the money. Then I'd sell a few of my cheapie older drivers and pray the wife didn't find the receipt...

If it meant I could hit every drive 300+ yards with laser precision, then absolutely.

Seriously though, if I was more serious and had some actual talent, then I wouldn't hesitate to pay $200 for a shaft.
