I have a pair of Flak Jacket XLJ with the Gold Iridium lenses that I've been using for about a year now. The reason I wear them has nothing to do with them helping me on the course or for clarity/contrast issues but instead just to protect my eyes from UV rays.

I realized when I got my Oakleys how much I had been squinting in the sun previously. I remember how relaxed the muscles in my face were the first day I wore them. I wear them almost all the time if I'm driving or outdoors, and feel uncomfortable in the sun without them on now.

In my C-130 bag:

Irons: G10 steel AWT shafts, silver dot, +1" (3-SW)Wedge: cg12 58*Putters: Squareback 2, California Coronado Low score (18 holes): 90Low score (9 holes): 42

I wear Oakley half jackets....except when I'm golfing. For some reason I golf worse with sun glasses on (depth perception loss, I suspect) plus I'm never comfortable wearing a hat and sunglasses together. The golf lenses do make me wonder if I should try sunglasses on while golfing again (and just put up with being a little less comfortable).

What's in my bag?

I've had the Oakley Juliet Ducati for probably 4-5 years now, and have just replaced the stock lenses in them within the past 6-8 months. I went with the black iridium polarized, and now wish I had switched to a polarized lens a long time ago. I've worn them doing anything from golf to fishing to riding jet skis to biking. I dont go anywhere without them.

I used to wear oakleys, say in the early 1990's when I was racing bicycles....had interchangeable lenses for different kinds of weather. I then changed them out for Bolle's, with interchangeable lensa plus a preceription lense on the nosepiece. it was great for those 100 mile bicycle rides.

Now, with progressive lenses, I got a pair of WyleyX P-17's. They wrap around so the sun does'nt sneak in and blind you when your are teeing it up.

Ive been wearing oakleys since I was a BMX riding teenager, today (almost 10 years later) I own the minute (not 2.0) and half jacket

Oakley is awesome. I worn a pair of prescription Oakley sunglasses provided by my optician two years ago. I want to advise those people not to go for cheap sunglasses for the reason they think the glasses are trendy. Those cheap inferior sunglasses are actually damaging their eyes.

Agreed, You can go cheap with balls, But don't go cheap with your eye balls

I have been wearing some old e wires recently and seeing better scores after reading some articles about wearing glasses can aid concentration and focus, the only problem with them is getting them to feel comfortable when wearing a cap.

Straight jacket and square wires, both with black iridium lenses - I like the straight jackets better, but truthfully it's whatever I grab/happens to be in my car when I'm going to the course. Only downside is the f'ed up tan line I end up with on my face

    • Interesting take on Pacific versus Bandon Dunes. I tend to prefer Pacific but it's a little splitting hairs. All four are great courses and really fun to play! My order is: Old Mac Bandon Trails Pacific Dunes Bandon Dunes Though if a little cheating is allowed I'd give Trails a T1. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
    • Eh... what's he going to say? "Hey, I bought a new driver. It's 10 yards shorter and I hit twice as many OB now." Does he have any data to back up his claim? Or is he just going by what he saw at his fitting?  I've been using either Shotscope or Arccos since 2018 and if there's one thing I've learned is that it's the archer not the arrow. When I'm hitting the driver well, it goes far and straight. When I'm a mess, it's a mess.  If you were properly fit for a driver in the last (dare I say 10 years) 5 years for sure. I'd be surprised if you can get more than a couple of yards out of it by getting a new one. The COR rule has been 0.83 since 1998, with widespread and standardized enforcement since 2003. Obviously, the engineers can still optimize spin and launch and shaft flex and/or kick point. So there are things that can be done. But I believe the days of 10 or 15 yard gains are over... unless your current driver is unfit for you. (as @Typhoon92 mentions above.) If you were fit for your epic. You will likely see very little on course performance difference.  Having said that, I get a new driver every 2 or 3 years... Why? Because I like shiny things. So, if you want a new driver, get a new driver.
    • My suggestion to you is to take your driver with you and go to a golf store where you can hit the new Ping 440 AND your own driver side by side.  They you can decide.  Very simple test you can do for free. You have no idea ( and your friend probably doesn’t either) how old his old driver was, what loft it was compared to the new one, what shaft and flex he had in his old driver vs. the new one.
    • I might be inclined to try to figure out what is bothering them. Is it that their index is 12 but they're only getting 10 strokes? If that's the case then I think I would just point out that their handicap is being adjusted for the difference between par and the course rating. It's adjusting for this course being easier than typical for the par. Course rating being roughly what a scratch should shoot on a good day and par being the sum of the numbers on the card. The whole concoction (which Erik and Dave explained already) is simply a way to get everyone to play on an even playing field. So if everyone plays to their handicap, then they'll all have the same net score. The adjustments are there mainly for those instances where something more complicated is happening like playing different sets of tees, but still apply otherwise. It's also easiest to say "your handicap index is 12.4, which means you should shoot 10 over par to play to your handicap" rather than "your handicap index is 12.4, which means you should shoot 12.4 over the course rating after adjusting for the slope", which is a whole lot of gobbledygook to people who don't know how the system works.
