That's a good position right there, left arm bent a bit much perhaps. Hands deeper and not lifted, get Tiger on the same plane and he will dominate like never before.

Haha, I agree! I saw a quote from Tiger this week saying a key for him to focus on right now is getting enough "width" in his swing...what the hell??? That makes it sound like he's going to get his hands even further off plane and away from his body, which is just the opposite of what I think he should do. I get the feeling a lot of people on this forum understand the golf swing better than he does, and I'm not even kidding. I swear if Tiger would sit down with the Stack and Tilt guys for a few days and at least hear them out about the physics and fundamentals of a golf swing, he would be unstoppable.

Specifically, I think Tiger should focus on getting his hands deeper in the backswing, keeping the club on roughly the same plane on the backswing and downswing (both matched up to the plane at which the club hangs at address), and hitting the driver with the same swing as he hits the irons. And yes, it is ridiculous for me to spout out advice for Tiger Woods.

Width doesn't really have anything to do with the swing plane that you can see from a DTL swing video. Width is more not using the wrists too early in the swing. He is trying actually to make sure he uses the wrists less, so like you say in your next post, it is kind of ridiculous.

But seriously though, this isn't the thread to discuss Tiger's technical problems.

Ok, I see your point, but you're right that this is the wrong thread, so I'll take it to the "Should Tiger Fire Haney" thread. (Actually, quick response: Sure, by your definition, proper width is not at odds or even related to a proper swing plane. Maybe I was wrong, but my assumption was that increasing width means widening the distance between the hands and the body, reaching further towards the camera from a DTL view. Doing that would have an effect on the swing plane, and it would take the hands to a more shallow point. From your definition of width, it wouldn't affect swing plane at all, so I don't disagree with you. My opinion still stands that I think Tiger needs to get his hands deeper. Just my opinion, of course.)

Back on topic, The Players is one of my favorite tournaments of the year! I'll be shocked if Bubba wins it, though (even though I'd love to see him win), because I just don't think he has the best course management skills on tour for a course that demands so much of it. If I could play any course from pro golf, I honestly might choose Sawgrass over Pebble or St Andrews (Augusta still wins, though, haha). I just think Sawgrass is such a brutally great design. Boo got Sergio disqualified at the PGA a few years ago. I doubt the grouping will be all that pleasant.

I like Furyk, too, but he's already won his two tourneys for the year. Hard to believe he's never won three times in a single season.

I'll take Westwood to win, with Cabrera, Mickelson, Zach Johnson and AK waiting in the wings.

Enjoy.

This may be just what Sergio needs: a reminder to read things before he signs them.

Yeah. Of course, if Boo hadn't got it wrong, it would not have been a problem. But when you sign a score card, you confirm that everything is correct. If it turns out to be wrong, you have nobody to blame but yourself.

Edit: Is it just me or is the video quality of the broadcast not too good? It stood out to me right away, reminded me of the kind of quality I'd see on Nationwide footage.

Hah, Tiger's first tee shot pulled into the woods. Here we go again!

I think he just overdrew it. His hand path was deeper than it has been. He played practice rounds with Pat Perez, JJ Henry, Sean O'Hair, Hunter Mahan... Pat Perez told him to get his hands in more.

That wasn't a pull.

It was an attempted funneh. I conclude with failure.

Good swing on the second hole, glad to see him using the 3 wood. Hope we get to see some slow motion of his swing today.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
