It will be interesting to see what kind of course strategy Lee steps up to the first tee tomorrow. There are 23 players within six shots of Westwood; one must assume that at least one of them will shoot a 66 or better, based on the first three days of play. Lee can't expect par golf to win, but he can't afford to be too aggressive.

I just got the impression that nothing is ever good enough for this guy. But that's the way he's always been. I dunno, he sounds bitter or something. A couple of times, they were showing a good approach shot where someone would be left with less than 6 ft for birdie, and he'd chime in "oh, he doesnt want to be on that side of the hole, it will be very tricky coming down" or something along those lines. I was thinking, how about giving the guy props for a nice shot??

Because he's Johnny Miller, he's more negative than my father. He seems to have this belief like back when he played, he did everything right. It's always easier watching from the outside and making comments than the doing, you know. That's probably a lot of it. Johnny Miller had the yips so bad he was 4 putting his way to mid 80s scores at one point. When he remarks about someone's putting, it makes me laugh.

Oh, I thought of another one: How many times he mentions the fact that he shot a 63 on sunday to win the US Open. And he mentions grain a lot, even on non bermuda greens.

I agree with you though, he doesn't like to give people many compliments. He also seems much prefer Phil over Tiger by a wide margin, though at least he is the only guy to knock both of them down a few notches. He just seems to have a certain, dare I say, swagger about him, like nobody could ever live up to what he did that one weekend in 1973, and that the guys of today would never live up to the ability of the players of his day. When a player has a tough chip or a forced carry and they pull off a good shot out of that situation, he never says "that's pretty good from there." Situation doesn't seem to matter to him, just the outcome.

So true. Sometimes I tune in, hear Johnny, and tune out. I just don't like the guy. Faxon, now, he's a real good dude, and so are Andrade and Nobilo. I like Faxon a lot though, and if anyone can tell you about putting!

It's funny you mention his (and most other announcers) preference of Phil over Tiger. When they showed Tiger on 17, he had to make it a point to say not many people were cheering for Tiger. It looked to me like the people that were there were cheering for him. There just werent quite as many people on 17 at that point in the day it seemed like. Yet when the subject switches to Phil, they endlessly fellate him. It's not that Phil doesn't deserve some praise and commendation for the way he has played lately in spite of his own family's hardships, but you'd think by now, they all would have learned NOT to put anyone up on a pedestal like that again, because you never know...

I also thought it was crazy that G Lover played pretty well, yet they never really showed much of him until his last few holes. Saw a good bit of Molinari, and he looked great as well, but they must have mentioned that his brother is playing in the Italian Open 30 different times today.
