Umm the more exercise you get the BETTER it is for your sugar.

As you burn more calories your body uses more of the sugar within your blood. If you exercise regularly you'll find that your sugar will become a little more predictable and stable on it's own. Not enough to take you off insulin but it will be much more manageable and predictable.

I'd walk walk walk, and use a pull or push cart. The only danger would be your sugar getting too low...

i think he meant a push cart, not an electric cart

an electric one.

Dunnes (a supermarket) were selling them on a special offer.

I this year have joined a very long undulating course, wouldn't say hilly although 15 and 17 are uphill (Druids Heath). In April I finally invested in an electric trolley and posted 2 of my lowest rounds there using it. When did you last see a pro carry his own bag? Not because he can afford a caddy it is because golf is hard enough without lugging a bag on your back. I have a Titleist TPI instructor and he is making his juniors trolley so they don't get back problems in later life.

Go with an electric trolley if you have the funds. You won't regret it.

Thanks everyone for your answers! To clarify, i am worried about my blood sugar getting too low half way round the course and becoming hypoglycaemic. This would mean i would have to cut the game short.

Obviously i will carry so snacks etc to keep my blood sugar up during the round i just thought that an electric trolley would reduce my exertion compared to pulling a manual trolley and therefore there would be less risk of me going hypo.

I'm going to try a few rounds with a manual 2 wheel trolley that my dad gave me and then consider an electric trolley if my blood sugar is getting too low.

Thanks once again

Good luck. I'd also avoid playing solo, and be sure any partners knew about the condition so they can keep an eye on you.

That's the best piece of advice I've seen in this thread. Never thought about the solo danger!

i started a thread about this. i still dont really get the whole carrying your bag thing if it makes the game easier and potentially more successful to put your bag on a cart, especially when the pros dont carry.

Today i went back from a three-wheel push trolley to the old rc electric trolley I used to use several years ago, had to buy a new battery though.

Well I didn't play my best round, but I was less tired at the last few holes .... we end our course with 6 par 4's and 1 par 5 and I parred all last 7 holes, it was a pitty I had to focus steering with the remote control at the first nine.

If the OP needs a electric trolley ..... go for it !

I'll be a naysayer at the risk of sounding like a jerk. I'm also admittedly in the dark about diabetes, etc.

I'm not quite sure I understand what benefit an electric cart would have in this situation over a manual one.

If your primary purpose of playing golf is exercise, why wouldn't you do whatever you could to maximize that exercise? It seems that it would be better to do a more intense workout for a shorter period of time than an easier one for longer. All else equal (assuming no complications to diabetes), it seems that it'd almost be better to use a manual cart (or carry!) for 9 than an electric one for 18. You could always work yourself up to a full 18 with a manual cart (which would be a sign of improving fitness), but the electric cart doesn't seem like it would motivate you to push yourself too much.

Exercise to change your body and improve fitness is supposed to be hard (in a good way). If you're not willing to push yourself, you're never going to get any better.

Just make sure you shut it off and dont it go rolling down any hills.

I worked at a hilly course and about once a week I got to laugh my ass off when one of those carts came seemingly out of nowhere over a hill and went smashing into the woods or just kept cruising on down the hill lol.

Usually with somebody coming down looking for it 5mins later

Yepppp very funny !

I saw a guy looking for his cart once, went putting and sended his car to the next tee and had to collect it lying upside down in a bunker a few holes further. Actually can't happen to mine, it stops automatically after about 75 yds., but some trolleys will go as far as the battery allows......

I see what you're saying, but don't agree with your logic. Walking 18 holes is a lot of exercise; you don't need any more than that to make it a worthwhile activity. Why restrict yourself to playing 9 (or fewer) holes just to carry? Also, in my experience, when trying to build endurance, you're better off doing more of something easier than less of something harder. So I'd expect that walking 18 with an electric cart would be a more effective "workout" than limiting yourself to 9 with a heavier load---you'll get your heart rate up to an increased level for a longer period. Plus, you can always turn off the motor (I guess, never seen one of these carts in person) and do some pushing if you want to slowly add work to your round.

Not to mention, I'd rather play 18 holes than 9 (if I had the time).

I guess it really depends on the overall fitness goal. More intense activity for shorter periods would lend itself to greater strength and conditioning (cardio-wise) whereas low intensity for longer periods would lead towards weight loss in general without a corresponding increase in 'physical fitness'.

Maybe your compromise is a good one. Use the motorized cart for 9 holes and push it the other 9 (although aren't those carts pretty heavy?)

Do what you need to do, to hell with anyone who bothers themselves with whether you're carrying or not.

Totally. I see PLENTY of 20 year olds riding carts when they could be walking. Do your thing and stay healthy. If you want to worry about something, worry about your putting!

Yeah, it depends. There may be good reasons not to want to use an electric cart, some of which you've said. My chief thought on the topic, as I was reminded by FatSlice's quote, is that "what will the other guys think" should not rate high on the list. If it'll increase your enjoyment and decrease the odds that you hurt yourself, do it.

I just pulled a neck muscle and I attribute it to carrying my bag. Im a big durable guy, but consider the heat and humidity of this summer and its not hard to believe that the weight affects your swing which could result in an injury. Im laid up off of golf for at least a week. Im not carrying anymore. EVER. Its not worth it.

I think it's all those 320 yard drives. I've never hurt my neck carrying a golf bag, but have riding in a powercart driven by someone who thinks they're trying out for WRC.

Riding in a cart on the paths and walking to my ball equals 3.5 miles according to a good pedometer. Average walker will turn around 7 miles.

Many repliers don't understand hypoglycemia. I am diabetic also but I am 68. Our motto is " Cant see, Can't hear, Can't piss and don't care." At 68 I really don't care what people think. If I want an electric trolley, I'll use one and really won't care what people think. The advantage of age is that there is no one there that I really have to impress except for myself. I hope that you get that point and use an electric trolley and don't care what other people think you look like. Just beat their wimpy asses on the 18th when they are too tired.

also monitor your blood sugar somewhere around the middle of the round.
