Other than low scores, what gives you the greatest satisfaction on the course?

For me it's hitting a great pitch and watching it go straight for the hole, with no doubt that in will not go in.

so you like hitting pitches that you know are not going in?

Making putts is fun. Having control of the ball is a big deal to me now. I have turned wild this year and when I'm not that is really nice. Both of those things equate to low scores. Multiple birdies. Hitting a perfect shot of any kind is a great feeling.

I agree with others just playing is great.

- Being on the course at dawn with no one else on the course
- Being on the course at dusk with no one else on the course
- Hitting a iron to exactly the spot I wanted to place it
- Being on a par 5 in 2
- 19th hole reliving the round whether it was a good one or bad one
- Watching a newbie hit a good shot and seeing them get bit by the golf bug
- A good out from the sand
- Spinning a lob wedge
- Not losing a ball during a round

A low number of putts for the round. Feels good knowing that when I get on the green I have some control!

A friend and I were talking about this before, and one of the greatest enjoyments we get from the game is the sound. Two that come to mind are the ping of my 3 wood hitting the ball off the tee, and another one is the sound of the ball going into the cup. I love those sounds.

Being out there and away from "life". Also just conquering a course round by round, hole by hole.

Hitting the shot, you see in your mind. You see it then play it out in your mind, the flight and landing. Then you actually do it. That feeling is worth it all.

+1 on this!

I like playing a beautiful course and just looking around and taking it all in. I played the Guntersville State Park course here in Alabama yesterday. It just opened four weeks ago after being shut down for over a year for renovations. It was tournament ready!

For me it's playing a round that I know I didn't throw any strokes away with stupid course management decisions and sticking shots.

When you strike the ball, hear the sound and feel club hittng ball and then ground (hopefully) and you know that its a good a shot and you look up to see it sailing away towards the green or when putting, diving into the cup, that is just magic

The thing that makes me most happy, is when my mates have a good round.

If they play well, I play well.

If they play crap, I generally follow.

And lets be honest.

A bad day at golf is better than a good day at work.

Unless you work at Hooters

THE HERO SHOT

I drive into trees, or beyond them onto another hole. Hitting a lob over trees directly in front of me and landing the green especially when the trees are directly in front of me and I need to go vertical fast! Only problem is that the last 3 or 4 Ive tried I failed!

just grinding it out, if im not playing very well and can only shoot around 85 just not going much higher makes me feel like 'well, ive done well to keep it to that'.

also making a birdie or 2, just makes me feel good

That one shot per round that comes off just as you wanted and needed it to, that brings me back week after week. My last one was a 3 wood on a par 5, I duffed my drive off the tee, got angry, then smacked the sweetest 3 wood to within 2 feet of the pin. My worst, missed the putt for eagle but made an easy birdie. But that one 3 wood shot put me on a high for the rest of the round. Just waiting to repeat it.

    • Day 1 - First chipping and pitching. Focus on a better grip, the fundamentals and taking the club back on plane, not outside. Feels good. Then some full swings. Focus on improving the setup. Weight more forward, more bent over, and same grip stuff.
    • Congrats on the improvement. Cheers for lots of continued improvement in the future. IMO you've gotta get away from these spots… Those are partly "results" as the work will begin on things earlier in the swing. Good luck.
