Sounds like you have a lazy family, mainly you. Get on your bike and ride your lazy butt to the course if it means that much to you. And you mother staying in bed all morning. Good grief! Not saying what you want to hear, but then, I don't cater to everyone in that way. I respond to your questions/comments with an honest and sincere manner. Yes, I had a job mowing grass (4 yards) at 9 years old, and by the time I was in the 10th grade, I was working 7 hours a day after school. Not for the support of the family like in the real old days, but because I liked having my own money and being able to buy my own things. I could have done like you and slept late every day, gotten up and started complaining about how the world is against me since I might have to ride my bike a few miles to do something that I'm passionate about, but I had better ethics than that.

I just thought it is hilariously ironic that this came from a guy named SpoiledRotten

Anyways, I do think it's a good idea to talk to the course pro and let him know your situation and maybe he'll help you out by letting you leave your bag there so you can ride your bike. You're giving him consistent business to the best of your ability and I'm sure he appreciates that.

Without knowing anything about the kid's family, you make an awful lot of assumptions.

What assuptions did I make that the OP didn't spell out? He gets up 8:30 or maybe a little earlier. No one else wants to even get up that early (8:30). His dad is away in "his" (the kid's) car. Sounds like his dad is away in his dad's car. He wants to play golf but he doesn't want to have to be inconvenienced by walking or riding a bike to get there, and he doesn't want to get out and work a job to buy one of his own. What does it sound like to you?

The OP DID NOT say "I'm down and out and need someone to cheer me up. I don't have a car. I don't have legs so I can't walk or ride my bike. My mother has a terminal illness so she can't get out of bed and surely can't take me to the course. I had to go to work hard as a pre teen to buy my dad a car and put food on the table for the family so my dad can take "my" car and look for work out of town, so what can I do to get to the golf course for a little R & R?"

Some of you that are ragging me are the reason this society is so quick to jump on the free meal wagon that the liberal government is wanting to put everyone on. Just don't worry about it and someone else will take care of you.

Sorry, (well, not really) but I just don't see it that way. If you want something, get off your butt and go after it and stop waiting for someone to give it to you.
If you don't like that statement, then you need to go have a heart to heart with that guy in the mirror, or it might be that you are just another kid taking up for your peer.

Yes, I'm "spoiledrotten", but I worked for everything I have. I didn't sit around and pout until someone gave it to me.
I'll give you a little history about that screen name my wife and I chose. We are a family of 3. We spoil each other rotten with 1) love for each other that withstands the strongest storms of life 2) with quality time for each other, and 3) with material things. We both worked hard to become debt free and to have what we want... and if we want it, we get it. So I go by SpoiledRotten, the wife is TotallyRottten, and the 12 yr old is ALittleRotten.

BTW.. the advice/comments I gave was free. It's worth what you're willing pay for it. For every one person that was unhappy with what I posted, there were probably 30 that said to themselves, "why didn't I post that?" Just like that OP wasn't going to get everyone to sob for him, I knew that everyone wouldn't agree with my comments. I just have the stones to take it.

So your dad took "your" car, why can't you use his while he's gone? Or else, take a bus? Walk or take a bike? If not, couldn't you just go later in the day?

Cheers,

Again...nobody asked for your opinion of his family. You could have left that part out. You ASSUME that his family is lazy. You don't know why his mother sleeps in a bit and if she does, whats it to you? Young people don't always think things through like us older folk. We have more life experience to fall back on. All he was doing was asking us for a little of that knowledge. Berating his family was not necessary.

Whoa. Right there buddy. You arent going to talk about my mom on a internet forum, that's just not going to happen. Yes, she does sleep in. UNTIL 9-930. She takes care of me and my two brothers, house chores, cooks and runs them all around town. When my dad is out of town. Shes a stand up woman. More than I can say for you. Dont you dare DONT YOU DARE ever talk about my mom. Second, everyone that says take his car. That is completely out of the question, as I am not allowed to touch it. Like ever. He takes my car because he doesn't want to put miles on his new car, but he wants to get reimbursed for travel at the same time.

Your sig says your 19 but to me it sounds like your 13 or 14 haha. Your 19 and your not allowed to touch your dads car? WTF haha Anyways...sorry to rant.

I agree with everyone else...walk...ride your bike if you wanna play that bad. Otherwise wait till later in the day...what will that hurt? Good luck with getting there!

That's what I'm thinking. I got married at 19. I surely wasn't sitting around pouting because my Mommy wouldn't take me to play golf only 3 miles away. One suggestions to the OP... don't expose your family's habits in a request for advice, if you don't want opinions. You'll learn that with age though. You think that information is only going to be read by those that sympathize with you. Hey this is the WORLD WIDE WEB! To a previous poster... no, I'm not full of myself. I just get sick of the kids now that have been babied so much of their childhood that don't know how to handle life when they reach an age where they should already be off of mother's milk.

Regardless of whether or not you have a point, you're a 50 year old man insulting some kid's mother whom you've never met, on the internet, in a forum where the kid asked for advice, not a rant from a grouchy old ***hole. You're ridiculous.

I do chores around the house, as in cleaning my room

Cleaning your room is one of your chores……..and you are 19?

Guess you have no choice since you can't use either of your dads cars. Oh wait - you could walk, ride a bike, call a friend, take a bus, take a cab, go play later in the day….the possibilities are endless! I don't think you "need to convince your parents"…I think you need to seek alternative resources.

Do you always put your foot in your mouth, or just on TST?

Do you always get your butt hurt because of some post on a forum or just on TST? Get over it.

to the OP - doesn't look like my suggestion was taken very seriously. When I was in college, I worked full time all summer so I can pay my tuition and to afford a car to drive. You're 19 and you're sitting around doing chores around the house asking mom to wake up and give you a ride. I'm actually gonna have to agree with SpoiledRotten on a few points with this one. Figure it out. You're 19. You're fully capable of finding a full time job and working and buying a car. it was a serious suggestion when I said this. Why sit around and rely on your sleeping mom? She owes you nothing. So either walk, bike, work and buy a car and figure things out for yourself.

If you can read, which I think you can, you would see that not only does he already have a job, but also has a car. His father is currently using it to keep the miles off of his own. With your rant about working full time in college blah blah blah all you sound like is a jealous little girl that is upset because something was handed out to someone and she didn't get any.

Posted
its obviously not his car since he has no control over it. sounds like he needs to get his OWN car and keep his dad off of it.
As for having a job, he made it sound like his job was doing chores around the house. If thats not the case, then my bad.

and no jealousy here. I worked to get my degree and my current job. I don't look for hand outs, nor would I receive hand outs if I'm fully capable of earning something.

[QUOTE=trog2233;493387]

Given that the old car is an STS, it's probably doubtful that the OP's dad traded down. I don't have kids but I don't think I'd let my 19 year old son drive (and park!) my $60,000 vehicle unsupervised should I be fortunate enough to be in that situation in the future.

That said, I am a bit anal about cars - Cameron's dad from Ferris Bueller? That'd be me if I could afford it.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
