Why all the animosity? I can think shorts look stupid just like you can say they don't. Sorry but shorts are for kids and girls. I guess i just don't like seeing men's hairy legs.

The hostility comes from your insulting reaction to those who enjoy wearing shorts. If you want to wear pants, wear them. The vast majority of golfers enjoy wearing shorts, not because they're "Sheep" but because we feel more comfortable in them. If it bothers you so much to look at people's "Hairy legs" then stay home.

I created this thread just to say that i thought i stayed cooler with long pants in the sun than i did with shorts. I was not trying to say that pants were more appropriate than shorts. 90% of the people i play with wear shorts and i have no problem with it.

They do wear dress pants and visors - they look classier than Ryan Moore and Woody Austin at least.

Unfortunately, this is one of the topics you can't even graze near without it devolving into the same thread that we had the last time around. There's always someone who pulls a Weezy and asserts his personal tastes as if they were canon and expresses false dismay when a flamewar ensues. At least we got a few good posts in before the devolution.

Down here in So Cal, I find that light colored breathable pants are almost indistinguishable from shorts in terms of comfort. I still usually wear shorts during the summer (on the course or not), but it's sometimes nice not to have to worry about sun exposure as much. Other places in the country, shorts are more of a must for sure.

Wearing shorts for me depends on the course, the company and the weather. The can look okay (even cargos!), but like any article of clothing, it depends a lot on the fit and the physique of the wearer.

What part of KY of you from and how old? I know a couple people who don't golf, but absolutely under no circumstances will ever, ever, EVER wear shorts. I think it has a lot to do with the area you were raised in and what time period.

As someone who spent his teen years at BK, I can assure you that those aren't dress pants.

Living in Florida, I wear shorts most of the time (even in the winter). I have been wanting to try some pants made of some of the newer materials to see if they are any better. As far as shorts not being acceptable golf attire that is ridiculous. The heat index outside right now is 103*. How many pairs of pants do think are out on the course? I would bet it is in the single digits. I prefer the look of long pants actually but in this heat? Most of the pros would play in shorts if they were allowed by the way. I think course dress codes should certainly be enforced and it makes me mad to see starters let people out in t shirts and flip flops with their hats turned around backwards (and I do read each course's dress code). I have never read a dress code that states no shorts. How silly to say otherwise.

I'll take your word for it since I don't eat there. At Rotten Ronnies, they wear black dress pants (around here anyway).

That looks like he just parachuted in with those xxxxxxl clothes on.

It could be a cultural thing i suppose. Men don't wear shorts around here much. My opinion is a (non-casual) dress code in any other area of life will not allow shorts, ever. So saying they are classy is just skirting the social norm of shorts=casual. If you can argue with that then there is no hope for you. You guys just keep hammering me as an eliteist while I am actually laughing at eliteist behavior. Basically i am saying that golf company's invented "formal" shorts haha can't even say that without laughing, because people want to play with shorts on. Fine i don't dig the style myself but whatever. However they invented these shorts so that they could keep their dress code relatively non casual. Yeah polos are in the same boat. If i had my drothers i would play without a collar, but i can't however they allow you to wear shorts. The fact i have had to explain this is disheartening. It is my opinion that they look ridiculous. You don't see people getting ripped for talking about ugly clubs or terrible shoes. whats the difference?

I have a more on topic question...If long pants "keep you cooler" due to shading your legs, moisture wicking, etc. then where is the argument for long sleeve shirts? Should they keep you cooler too if they are climacool or one of those breathable materials? I guess I do not get the whole keeping you cooler thing unless you are in an area with very low humidity. I will for the sake of comparison try playing a round in some breathable pants and report back later (if this thread hasn't been locked due to trolling haha)

I wouldn't say shorts are classy. I won't wear shorts out to a restaurant or any type of event such as that. Shorts at the courses I play here in Florida are the norm. Golf is a sport after all. When I lived in California (not far from Pebble actually) folks wore more pants but the weather was much cooler.

Just curious, Weezy, do you play in a polo? You are downing them as well I see. I just don't get where you are coming from really.

I wouldn't say shorts are classy. .

Why can't a nice pair of khacki shorts be classy? How about a nice pair of Dri-Fit shorts?

I wear both kinds. They're all Nike. I wear a nice Nike collered Dri Fit shirt tucked into either kind of those shorts. I think I look plenty classy.
