Its not looking good right now, but lets not have a bunch of knee jerk reactions based on one bad round. What if he goes out and shoots 66 today?

One bad round? Where have you been?

He's had just 2 decent tournaments in 4 months and has been generally spraying the ball around in most of the others...

And? Mickleson hasn't fared much better, and nobody is doubting his career right now. He is being talked about being the new #1 despite only playing 3 or 4 good tournaments all season.

And this has got nothing to do with Mickelson...or anyone else.

Don't try and excuse Woods' current form by comparing it with others...

In that case I've been nailing it at the range (easily 450-500) and I shot a 61 yesterday.

Then maybe book a flight and hide in the bushes?

The point of it is that the crowds/cameras are probably getting to him.

I think that's his biggest problem. Tiger is used to being the fan favorite, and adored by all his fans. Even if the people in his gallery act politely, in his own mind he has to feel self-conscious and possibly paranoid about what they think of him.

There's also alot of pressure on him, he was the poster boy of golf for the last 10 years, and had the luxury of being very selective of what products he's endorsed. His actions cost him some lucrative endorsement deals, and if he doesn't turn his game around he risks losing some additional ones in the future. Every time he walks up to hit the ball it must feel like there's a ton of weight on his shoulders, which would explain why he kills it at the range but can't make it happen in a tournament.

Interesting point of view since Tiger is/was supposedly the greatest golfer mentally to ever swing a golf club, groomed to ignore outside influences by his father since day one. Not sure how plausible that is. I tend to believe what he said the other day in his presser that he simply isn't practicing enough.

Admitting to being a sex addict, getting divorced, losing 1/2 your assets, custody of your kids, and major endorsements all in a public forum is a game changer in my mind. It's one thing to be mentally strong in a sport when your personal life is in order, it's quite another when there is no safe place to go to in your head to relieve the pressure of the moment.

I agree, thats why i think we just should accept the fact that Tigers game stinks at the moment, and we shouldnt try to sugercoat it. He should get his stuff together and after that we can see if he will be a force to be reckoned with or just some other guy like Ernie or Phil or Steve Stricker.. Discussing his game and his potential right now is pretty useless.

Tiger said himself he is nailing it on the range, and he recently shot a 61.....it's when he's on the course with the crowds, cameras etc he is falling apart.

newtogolf , you agreed with this quote above. I was trying to differentiate between off course outside issues with on course issues. I think it's ultimately what you state below coupled with lack of practice time, rather than how the crowds are acting outside the ropes.

He needs a coach fast! He needs to be told what is wrong with his swing! It's frustrating that he thinks he can get through this dip in form by himself.

That's one thing I don't guess I'll ever understand. Why does a pro golfer need a coach, especially if they are deemed the very best in their field? It looks like he could vid record his actions, review and advise himself. Now, I know a doctor wouldn't perform his own surgery, but then there is anesthesia involved with that, but that same doctor should be able to diagnose his on illness.

I'm ready for a change anyway. I like the idea of people thinking they finally have a chance to take home the trophies and the big money. Tiger has had his time in the spot light. Step aside and others will show some real competition again. Lots of talent out there, but I'll have to say that if I were a really great player and saw Tiger come up right after me and sign on the dotted line (prior to all this that has happened recently), my confidence level would probably plummet.

yes that would belong in the Phil thread....reminds me of one of my kids who gets in trouble for something. Yea but Johnny did this....

It's not about Tiger using that as an excuse, it's about being rational in criticism/evaluation of a player. If Phil is having similar problems and people aren't screaming that his career is over, why are they saying them about Tiger? It's evidence of a double standard.

    • I enjoyed it. Very interesting takes on the length of lessons. I have been on both sides in thinking the lesson could have been shorter but many times, I would have enjoyed about 430 more minutes. Mine are all one hour lessons by default. I actually liked the 3 hour lesson allotment and however long lesson 1 takes, only takes away from your 3 hour total. It may be 25 minutes or it may be an hour an a half. Cool concept. The recall factor is something I have been having a lot of trouble with lately actually.
