Ok guys. I was playing really well until a couple of days ago. My mis hits are are thin/fat pushes. I honestly dont know what the problem is. I hit 300 balls on the range, took a bunch of video, played 18 and it hasn't gotten any better. ITt's urgent because I have a tourny tomorrow and I'm willling to try just about anything so comment away..please. i'm gonna hit the range in the morning alot before. The guality is bad and i know i took my dtl behind a door, but it doesn't open so it was the best i could do. They were taken with a 7 iron. Please help me out with this thanks guys

i know i come from the inside in my backswing, but i played great golf before that with that same in- and over the top kind of swing. i know im doing that wrong but i dont think thats the problem....for now.

for whatever reason i cant get a facing view

First look, your coming over the top....plus if you have a tourney tomorrow, just play your normal swing. Your handicap is a 5 for a reason. You have to be doing something right.

Too close to the ball and too upright. Move away from the ball and let your arm hang and more knee bend. You know like basic set up stuff. That should flatten your swing some and make your misses better.

It looks like if you'd hit that ball off grass there would be a massive crater where the ball was.

haha this is halarious. Hes obviously a kid who is just starting to play golf. no way a 5 handicap.

the reason i have a hitch in my swing is because i'm self-taught.

and i'm actually a pretty good iron player I average about 10-11 greens in reg. THIS is hilarious, because your both wrong, by alot. Btw, your using blades, buut your a 15 handicap? yea...

If you don't want people to comment, then don't post your swing video. Insulting those that do comment is, well, childish. Your swing needs work, no doubt. It isn't one that I would associate with a 5 handicap, but you say you are.

Play your tournament, then post a better video. You might get some constructive commentary. But if you only want to trade insults with those that comment, take it to a different forum.

As people have said, I wouldn't really change your swing (or start thinking about it too much) the day before a tourney. You're a 5 handicap for a reason, so just go out there and play your game. The comments you did get about your swing (putting aside those other skeptical/rude ones) seem to be pretty spot on. I'd say play your tourney and enjoy yourself, you no doubt have a good golf game. After that, post a better video (maybe not through a closed door) showing your club/hands at the top of the swing, as well as a face on view and a video we can slow down (not Youtube?), and you'll probably get some better responses.

Good luck and let us know how the tourney goes!

Cheers,

Your biggest problem is that you swing down at the ball. You don't have any "forward" to your swing. Even well after impact your weight is probably 50/50 instead of WELL forward like it should be.

Frankly, I doubt you're a 5 with that action either, but people can adapt to pretty crazy things...

Just to clarify, I'm not questioning your HC. In that video you posted it just looks like you swing down on the ball quite violently.

You have a really big hitch. You come over the top. You swing down at the ball, not through it. You don't shift your weight. You have a flying right elbow. You bow your left wrist. Your takeaway is really steep. And you are wearing sandals.

Well...you seem to know that you have an over the top swing but you don't credit that as a source of your problems...but...it is the main source of your problems. You need to approach the ball much more from the inside. You have little to no lower body action to your swing which means that your swing is almost entirely arm action. I would encourage you to think less about your arms when you swing. Let your shoulder move your arms up on the backswing and then let your hip turn move them back down.

You also move your head waaaay too much.

On a positive, you look to have good swing speed for your age. However, I'd try to swing with more balance even if that means swinging slower.

Good luck at the tourney

i played terrible in the tournament, shot 87, but I was a good 87 considering i lipped out on 6 putts from within 5 feet because the cups were beat up. I just got back from a lesson i got, and I'll post a video later. I'm definently starting to make progress so well see

If I were to say one thing, I'd echo others in saying weight forward, especially at finish. It could be the start of solving the over the top you have going on.

This video was taken about 5 hours after a recent lesson. The teaching pro wasn't great, considering I was able to book him for a time only a day in advance, but he did get me going in the right direction. After about 1-2 hours of looking over footage and correcting myself, these were two of the better shots I came up with. I know I still have a lot of work, i still have a slight hitch and my head moves a little too much, but I'll keep self-correcting myself and hopefully keep posting videos. Both were with a 7 iron

I doubt you're a 5 handicapper by the look of that. Your head is already over the ball when you are at impact. Your swing plane is too flat. And the club looks a little bit too far back on your backswing.

Other than that, nice balancing your weight.

You flip your wrists through impact, Im not 100% sure though and you're still over the top, I dont mean to hurt your feelings but if your handicap is under 20 Id be surprized......is there anything you'd like to owe up too? but you,'re a kid you have plenty of time, and if you keep practicing you will be a single digit handicapper without doubt

    • It’s not live on free to air tv in the UK, and hasn’t been since 1995. ( I pay a subscription to Sky for generally good golf coverage). There are limited highlights on the BBC for some golf events, but that’s it. Are other/all PGA events on NBC?  Allowing ticket scalping is a systemic failure across sports and showbiz, which could be legislated against, but in the UK is not in any meaningful way. I don’t know much about the secondary market in the US or anti scalping measures.  Charging more to keep prices down is an interesting concept, in practice no doubt you are right even if It sounds a bit Catch 22  Do you think sports tickets and broadcast rights  should be sold on a purely capitalist basis, or is there an argument to say that some sports might benefit more from wider exposure and affordable access. ( golf in the US is apparently not one of these if tickets sold out at those prices so quickly)  Fans might benefit from cheaper tickets and in the UK at least, TV coverage that reaches a wider audience.
