i think Tiger is a great chipper, one of the best. He was using a 7 iron in that video

It's easy to chip with blades - you know that right?

I didn't know that either. At what point should one consider blades? I obviously am no where near that point just curious.

You don't need blades to chip well - nobody probably ever "needs" blades.

Just don't forget about chipping when purchasing a set of irons (or a new wedge). Go over to their putting green and chip a few - if you don't feel like you can hole out a chip, or even stop the ball before it breaks a window, you're gonna struggle on the course.

Long slow swing=high shot
Short quick swing=low shot

Not sure why this is true but if I'm trying to elevate the ball I almost feel like my swing is in slow motion.

Greeenside Bunker shots--Open stance, open club face, ball foward, enter sand 2 inches behind ball, aggressive through ball.

yea forget blades. Get a set of clubs that you like for your full swing...then for chipping either use the PW that comes with it, or go with a titleist, cleveland or nike set of wedges (52, 56, 60)...not saying all of those. I play a 52 and 56. Used to have a 60, but took it out to use a 2 iron.

Very fundamental..but hasn't been mentioned. Keep your head down. Don't be in too big of a hurry to look at your beautiful chip/pitch shot because it won't be. Exaggerate this if necessary.

It's amazing how something so fundamental is so hard to implement or easy to forget. My chipping has improved a lot lately since I starting to pause a split second between the backswing and downswing durin which I concentrate on keeping my head down.

    • God I hate when golf can’t give me n+1 day of success. Drives me up the wall when my body is, FU! Im like, ok let’s check the vid. Yep too much turn, arms getting behind me. Ok, I work on that. Get the feel back for a shorter swing. Confirm with video. Then going back to arms down stuff.  Arms down, nope it’s hands out towards the ball. Oh, you get arms down better. Guess what, you don’t get to rotate and you hit 6 inches behind the ball. Yay!  Maybe I should have walked off the range and not wasted my time. I wish there was a body alert system when it’s going to a SOB for the day. 😭 OK rant over, I’ll be back at this tomorrow.

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
