And the hits just keep coming.

I shot 68 yesterday evening after, a week prior, shooting a career low 70.

It was an odd experience because there were really vicious crosswinds on every hole. In hindsight, I think that focused me a little bit as I had to think through the shot and club selection so much that I never got too bogged down with swing thoughts. Hit every iron on the screws and didn't hit a poor tee shot after the 3rd hole.

Only bogey was on the 1st. Shot 5 under after that. I didn't even putt that GREAT...the ball was just so close that even I couldn't screw it up. What's scary is that if I had the putter going from outside of 10 feet I could have been looking at 64 (felt I missed 4 very makeable birdie putts).

Hooray beer!

Well done again! I'm thinking you are going to get cut fairly shortly and fairly deeply.

Followed it with a 73 today. This being back at work and not practicing my brains out thing is actually helping, as now I'm not sore as hell all the time and am applying what I worked on all summer a lot better.

Oo. This is getting my hopes up. About a week ago I shot my personal best, a 70 also, 2 days in a row. I was so close on both occasions to getting easily into the 60s, with 33's on the front nine. But on both days I shot a 37 on the back nine and couldn't bring it home. I'm hoping that my 68 comes soon!

Index is better than mine, my friend. I'm sure you'll be cranking out 68's with regularity

What is the course rating where you play? At +2.1, I'm surprised you don't have at least a round or two in the 60's.

Yea I knew someone would be asking that question sooner or later haha. I'm a really consistent player most of the time. I never really go too low, but I do stay around one number a lot. The course rating I play at is 73.1 from the tips and 69.1 from the back tees. I have 10 scores in my oobgolf handicap calculator and it says I'm a +2.1.

Here's my page if you want to take a look at it: http://www.oobgolf.com/golfers/Divot+Maker I don't know if it's too right myself (I haven't calculated it), but if it's wrong let me know and I'll change it. I don't want to put myself out there as better than I actually am haha. Edit: I looked on their website and it takes the average of the best 2 or 3 scores I've entered and makes that my handicap. I don't think that's a legitimate number for my ability. I'll change it a little bit.

10 scores isn't really enough for a handicap. A real handicap system would could your best 10 of your last 20. Not your best 2 or 3 of you last 10.

To the OP: congrats on the 68! I have yet to break 70.

Yes sir. I agree. I changed it to the best 5 of the last 10 scores. It says that out of those 10 scores that my scoring average is 71.1 (which is close to a +1 handicap that I put down on my profile).

Whatever your handicap really is, that's some good golf. Keep it up and you're going to have a very nice high school career.

Status update: The golf gods have struck me down with an awful case of flu or food poisoning. Nothing like 'celebrating' the achievement by sweating a lot and going to the toilet on a regular basis.

...

Seeing some of the comments, I'm not sure what I think about this round. A lot of folks with better indexes than me saying they haven't went this low, or rarely have. Don't know how encouraged to feel. I've only been playing the game seriously for over a year after a ten-year hiatus before which I was, at best, a mid 80's shooter as a teenager. I feel like I have a long way to go. But, I know that when I hit it where I want to hit it, good things happen. I have solid length, not quite the video game length others on the site claim to have, but I never feel outgunned by a course or struggling for distance; I hit it well from 100 yards and in, I putt solidly but unspectacularly (this part of the game is coming much more slowly than the rest of it for me, probably because I've had no real instruction of note in this area); my mental game and my emotional management are slowly improving. Just not sure how to process it. What's the next step? What should I be shooting for?

I also feel like I need to go see a more advanced instructor and make sure I'm going the right way and that I'm not going to peak and eventually regress due to frustration, never reaching my full 'potential'. A lot of stuff to think about. And it's a game, right?
