I think it was a 300 yard par 4, or something like that. Drove the ball about 220 yards, then after rolling and bouncing a bit, it landed about 225 yards.

Funny Uncle Peter... But I have actually hit a drive for negative yards. I hit it pretty hard as well and toward my target, but caught it thin and low and it hit a stone hole marker statue next to the tee at just the right corner angle to fly high but backwards so it came back behind me, way behind me. We all know what you do if you don't get past the women's tees, but what do you have to do (other than retee with penalty) when you don't even make it to the tips tee?

A short par 4 at a course I play has a nice slope down towards the green. I have hit it about 280-285 yards there a few times onto the fringe. If I cream one on a flat hole with no wind assistance I'll make around 235-240y. I'd like to hit it longer but I'll settle for just hitting it on the fairway at this point in time!

I've hit this drive twice, 2 years ago and about a month ago, 2 years ago I was on a dogleg left and crushed a ball starting dead straight and even turned left for me. 480 yard par 5 I was inside 150 and right about 350 out. This year I was on a different course 505 yard par 5, and I hit the ball on the screws dead straight and left me with a PW from 150 out, 355 yard drive. Bad part of this, I duffed the next 3 shots and 3 putt for a double, got too excited over the drive I think.

Longest aided drive 371 yards, a couple of years ago we played in a pretty strong wind on a course in Oklahoma. The fairways were pretty hard, the bermuda was still mostly dormant, I hit a ball that rode with the wind, hit the fairway hard and ended up next to the green.

There's a hole at the Pasadera Country Club in Monterey that probably has 200 yards of elevation drop. From the tips, it's a 570 yard par 4! You basically tee off from the side of a cliff. (The course is a really nice Jack Nicklaus design, by the way - I've only played it a couple times when I was visiting a friend whose dad is a member.) So, the second time I played the course, I played that hole from the tips and just gave a drive everything I had. I was lucky, too, because I wasn't driving the ball very well that day - I can still remember I was hooking a lot of my drives all day - but luckily for me this was my most solid drive of the day. It was crazy to see how long that ball stayed in the air, and it honestly seemed to fly out of range of my sight. The rest of the hole is downhill, as well, so I can assume it got a huge kick forward in addition to the extra carry provided by the insane elevation change. I ended up with 135 yards in, which makes it a 435 yard drive. The crazy thing is I admit that I'm not a really long hitter - I'm sure a bunch of you guys could hit it even further on that hole; it seriously plays that far downhill. I would be curious to see if Bubba Watson would drive the green, haha. On a 570 yard hole!

Longest drive on flat hole not aided by a bunch of wind-348 yds. I'm still surprised at that one, I didn't swing particularly hard, just big and smooth. Plus, the Nike SQ Dymo Str8-Fit is just a long hitter.

I can't say what the longest driver I've ever had is, since I only got the rangefinder this year.

Longest shots of 2010:

Driver: 343 I've hit the ball better on that hole (par 5 eleventh hole at Meadowlands near Sylvan Lake) but that one hit the perfect spot on the fairway to get the most run. Longest by ~ 20 yards on that hole. (can't find a current on-line scorecard)

3-wood: 283 pin high approach on a par 5 (left apron) at a course SW of Calgary (can't recall the name - nice 27 hole layout). That was in a Scramble - I'd never go for that green in regular play (green on a little peninsula).

3 wood / 3 wood: front edge on a 551 yard par 5 (number 5 at Central Highlands Olds, AB )

Driver/ 3-wood: 600 yards (left with a 125 yard approach on a hole listed at 785 from the tips, but as the crow flies, it's approximately a 725 yard par 6). see link The Nursery

not sure, but i have driven a 325 yd par 4 on the fly, put it 15 yds over the green. so i reckon 340, but that's without any roll and about a 20 ft drop.

Longest - legit or otherwise was 262.

3-wood: 283

I meant longest 3-wood from the fairway. The first time I hit that club on the course was last fall - 305 off a tee.

300 yards is a long effin way
i had a decent tailwind today, and just crushed it........
measured it back to the tee w my rangefinder....302
and im a tall dude at 6'2" and 195lbs, in good shape and a 3.2 index

i have a hard time believing anyone who says they "average" 290+ off the tee
once in a few rounds MAYBE hit one that far...ok
man, that is a distance
it just boggles my mind that guys like DJ AVERAGE over 300+ yds....simply sick

In the past 25 years I've golfed with a few people who could surely put it out past 290 on average with 2010 balls and drivers. They were longer than me then, and I know how my driving average has gone up with new equipment. Having said that, in the past 2 seasons, I've played with approximately zero players who would average 290+ (including my own definitely < 290 average).

I am 5'8" and 193, and average 282-292 with solid shots. I do hit a few 250 to 260 occasionally. My best measured drive was 340, before I changed my swing. I am happy with it being in the fairway now any where from 250-292. My average overall would probably be with less than stellar drives, right at 270. I very rarely play with anyone that out drives me.....but I have only golfed with 58 years and older guys and one small for his age 13 year old.

you average 292 ON SOLID SHOTS????....that makes no sense bro

as a 21.4 index, you MIGHT have a few pure solid shots per round....so as mentioned, MAYBE puttting one out there that long every couple rounds..ok i guarantee you dont average 292 or even 270 for that matter anyways...im off topic, this is about your longest drive ever I wasnt trying to start anything in my earlier post, just stating a fact there are enough arguments on this forum aboyt how long your "average drive" is back on topic....mine probably was that 302 i mentioned earlier...who know though more concerned about how many fwy's i hit, GIR and how many putts i make

First of all you know what I am talking about so don't play stupid. You seem to think that everyone who carries a low handicap lies about what goes on with their golf game. I know what I hit, when I hit it flush, read correctly it is 280-290. If I am a little off it is easily 250 up to 270. I am not always in the fairway either which adds strokes. I have no reason to make this up. I am inconsistent after the drive is why my handicap is high. I get to play a full round once a week maybe. I practice often throughtout the week but does not make up for playing rounds.

I have been on here since May and have seen you press your personal game on others and frankly I am starting to think you are just an idiot. You are welcome to ask anyone who has played with me how I hit.

I won't get in to longest regular drive ever cause there's too many haters about that. But my longest cheating drive ever was maybe 420. I pushed right into the trees on a ~520 yard par five. I've done that many times on that hole and know where to look and it's not heavy brush or anything, so was pretty sure I'd find my ball. Spent a few minutes looking then declared it lost and just dropped a ball since the course was too busy for a walk back to the tee. Hit a wedge out onto the fairway and notice that my first ball had hit the cart path, must have had a couple bounces on the path which is down hill and leads back towards the fairway. My ball ended up just off the right side of the fairway about 100 yards from the hole!

    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
    • I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.
