I have a question. I just bought a new driver about 3-4 months ago. When I got fitted my average speed was around 104.something. Today I was at dicks trying the new Callaway driver. My average speed today was around 98.something. Of course when I bought my driver was in the season and I was swinging a club about everyday. Now where I live maybe once a week or so. Would not swinging all the time make that big a difference or did I unknowingly do something to slow down my swing?

Not swinging all the time could have an effect. You also might not have been as loose because it's cold out. Also if you haven't been playing a lot lately your swing just might notbe as efficient.

In my bag:

Question and a bit off topic, but when you got fitted with a 104 ss with the driver, did they put you in stiff or x-stiff? Thanks.

In my Mizuno Aerolite IV Stand Bag:

Driver: Titleist 910D2 (9.5°, RIP Alpha 70S)
Wood: Titleist 910F (15°, RIP Alpha 70S)

Irons: Mizuno MP-68 Irons (3 - PW, C-Taper S+), Mizuno MP-33 2 Iron (C-Taper S+)

Wedges: Vokey Spin Milled (56.11 - Bent to 54°, 60.07 Tour Chrome, C-Taper S+ DSS)

Putter: Scotty Cameron Newport 2 (34")

Ball: Titleist Pro-V1x

GPS: Garmin Approach g5

Most useful training aids (for me) that I use: Tour Striker Pro 7 Iron, Swingyde, Tour Sticks alignment sticks, Dave Pelz Putting Tutor

Also, I wouldn't trust the launch monitors at most big-box golf stores to be accurate. Could be set up wrong, could be deliberately juiced, could just be budget hardware.

It could be the accuracy of the different stores equipment, calibration or could be the difference in the club head or shaft that is impacting your swing speed. Would be interesting to go back with your current driver and see what your numbers are there.

Said I was border line x stiff but I went with a stiff.

You can vary much just by being stiff one day. Nothing to really worry about. 98-104 is still within the realm of most stiff shafts.

Unless that store would like 100 angry golfers coming back, they have absolutely no reason to juice their launch monitors.

Think about it. You're hitting 320 on the monitor (with unknowing 40 mph winds at your back) and you get outside and you're hitting it 250. That person is gonna be PISSSSSSED. Also that person needs a reality check that a new driver isn't gonna add 70 yards, but people are really that dumb.

Waiting out the 2 feet of snow that just dropped on the course....

Think of it like weight lifting. Some days you can lift more than others. Your swing speed works the same way. The more swings you take the more you loosen up and your swing speed increases (then it goes down as exhaustion sets in).

There is some overlap between using a stiff and X-stiff shaft but your speeds suggest stiff is optimum.

In my Bag:

Driver - SLDR 430 - 10.5 deg
3 Wood - SLDR HL
Irons - TM Tour CB's                                                                                                                                                                 Wedges - TM                                                                                                                                                                               Putter - Odyssey White Ice 2 Ball

It's not uncommon for golf shops to have launch monitors that are mis-calibrated. I've been to Dick's where it was telling me I hit my 6 iron 190 yards and my driver 280-290 yards. That's nowhere near my actual yardages. So mis-calibrated launch monitors can be at fault.

I'm not a long hitter at all bit long enough. Of course being a guy it's never long enough. What is the best way to increase swing speed? I've heard that swinging a weighted club helps and have also heard it doesn't speed you up at all.

ive heard weighed clubs can help some, i think it might be good to help you warm up before a round, get the muscles loose before the first tee shot. I think i saw something called swingnature that Hank Haney was pushing earlier this summer, was a weighted shaft but you could also take weight out to make it a lighter club to train your muscles to swing faster. Just being stronger isnt enough, you have to be able to fire those muscles quickly to gain swing speed. If i could find one of those on ebay cheap enough or one of those momentus clubs as well(which i just saw minutes ago on the Golf Channel) id give it a try to warm up before the round. Although ive got a broken shaft sitting at home that would be great as a lightweight swing aid and its free, grip still in great shape.

    • Rory’s once again in a position to win a major, and The Masters at that, but having BDC breathing down your neck can’t be a good feeling. He has a lot of presence on the course when playing. Fingers crossed that Rory can get revenge for the 2024 US Open and finally collect his career slam.

    • I've seen/heard this question in every sport.
    • I’m definitely pulling for Rory. I must say I wish BDC hadn’t gone to LIV. I like his YouTube content and just don’t get why he felt he had to go there. It’s obvious he loves the game and the fans, and he’s not getting near the hype when he plays those exhibition matches on LIV.    I’d like to see Rose have a strong finish as well. Most of all though, I wanna see Rory have a solid Sunday.
