What club or clubs do you regret buying? Do you still have this club? Did you value of it change?

Me I regretted buying a TaylorMade rescue club that I just traded in. I also regret going for cheap on a stand bag and wedges.

Regret is a pretty strong emotion and not one I can equate to buying golf equipment. But I know what you are getting at and yes I have bought clubs that don't end up working out the way I had hoped. My TM #4 Raylor come to mind. I could just never get used to the visual imiage of the bottom of it and therefore I never got used to it. The club works great in the rough but I rarely used it from the fairway , making it of limited value to me. I ended up giving it to my kid and he loves it.

When a company makes a club in the USA I will proudly display their brand here. All of mine were made in china by somebody making $2 a day. Shame on you Mr club manufacture.

Ironically, for me it's also my TaylorMade Raylor.  It's good enough out of the rough but it's just way too situational for me to carry.  I'm going to trade it in or sell it.

I won a 300 dollar gift certificate at a club tourney and the assistant pro talked me into a scotty. It went to my basement after 3 rounds I just couldn't get a feel for it. Luckily I used a gift certificate and not cash but I bounce from my xg #9 and a yes marilyn both combined cost me less than 100. I had a bad affair with a king cobra F speed driver, hibore driver (hit both of them a mile but had zero control) and worst out of pocket purchase was titleist zb irons great looking irons I was sold at a demo day but I just couldn't get it going with them. There are several 3 woods and hybrids in the basement or I have sold but it's all the same story.

I think "Buyers remorse" would be a better term.

You should be able to return your Scotty I'd think. Nothing else you could get part of it back in cash selling it.

A friend helped me get a starter set of irons, and I got measured for length and got the right shafts (light, R-flex) and everything.

But after a bit of time with the irons (and a hand-me-down putter), I went and got a driver and 3-wood.  I didn't know about shaft flex or anything at the time, and I got S-flex.  After not hitting them well and finding out, the store I got them from took 'em back and gave me 100% of what I paid as store credit... which I used to get similar clubs in the proper flex.

I suppose you could say I regretted the first driver and 3-wood, but since I got the right ones eventually with no extra cost to me, it's not much of a regret.

I just chalk it up to experience. You gotta figure out what works for you.
In store demos or demo days only go so far. Sometimes it takes going out using it for awhile to figure it out. To me it is all part of the fun. You win some and you loose some .

Scotty Cameron putters. Got three of them and none had the magic dust I had heard about.

Took me almost $1,000 to figure this out

For me it would be my Taylormade RAC TP irons I got off of craigslist. I got a square deal on them, but lost at least a full club length all around. Not a good fit for me at all. They are for sale if anyone is interested. They are the RAC TP Combo set, coin forged, 3-PW with S300's.

If one of them happens to be a kombi -s 35" I would be happy to help ease your pain by acquiring it from you at a fair price. B-)

Kind of the opposite for me, I had a Scotty Cameron Bullseye a few years ago that I traded in... Looking back on it I regret doing that, wish that I still had it.

The only club that I kind of regret buying was a Nike SQ2 Sumo 5900 driver... I got it really cheap though and sold it for nearly as much as I paid for it so really it cost me nothing.

Who recommended the 12*?  The only reason I ask is that at a Ping Demo day the rep had me on a K15 12* with a +1.25" shaft driver.  I know my 10* Callaway Edge is giving up a few yards but wow....that 12* had a heck of a launch angle.  It was about 10 yards longer then the Callaway.

Want to sell that Ping G15?

I have lived in different places, and had the good fortune to find a string of golf shops and on-course pro shops staffed by friendly people. I usually got to test out clubs before I bought them.

Also, I tend to buy clubs about 14 months after the model comes out, about the time of the first price cut - a decent saving$ usually. An added benefit -  I've gotten advice from other players on how they like the clubs.

In my current location, I've gotten excellent advice from my pro on whether a club would work for me or not.

Some clubs here and there didn't work out, but I just traded them in.

Trading a club in is okay but damn you get killed on the trade in value. But I guess something is better than nothing. Took a $40 hit on the TM rescue I traded in and it was only a few months old. I just hated the thing so much. Will always take a few hits before buying no longer will I let myself be talked into a club again(I hope)

I only trade in clubs to mom and pop stores because you can usually haggle a little also you have to look for places that offer an extra 20% on trades.

I regret buying the TM R5, I never hit it as good as the Nike it replaced. Also wasn't too overjoyed with my SC Red X putter, it didn't seem to have any feel. I regret selling my TM Tour Burner irons, I should have keep them in the shed for those times the Mizuno MP 52s misbehave or when the ground is super-wet it'd be nice to a bit more sole on the club.

    • No, sorry. Even fewer golfers than Jack, and significantly fewer than Tiger.
    • Non conforming clubs still count towards the maximum number.   But to the OP, the maximum penalty is a match adjustment of two holes in match play, or a maximum of four strokes (the general penalty applied to the first two holes) in stroke play.  Its entirely possible you would have come out ahead even if the penalties had been applied.

    • Day 68 (8 Jul 25) - Took grandson and the Mrs for an easy nine today.  She only wanted her driver, 7i and putter, so I trimmed my bag back to accommodate.  Had a blast watching her shake the rust off and hit some nice drives, approaches and roll putts.  Got her to use my 7w for those par 5 second shots - she used it well.  Grandson was on his game as well.  For me it was about course management and working from yardages and positions I don’t usually play - with fewer options to get back in play.  Love mixing it up like this - makes me think and not just boringly do.
