Supposedly a contract is in the works to bring the first leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs to the Black.  It has bounced around courses in the NY Metro area since leaving Westchester CC where it will not return to.  Westchester is getting the Senior Players Championship this year to complete their contract.  They were supposed to host the Barclay's one more time but the club members and the PGA Tour weren't really interested.

As a local, I'm a little hesitant about this.  A tournament like this would shut down a couple of courses for weeks.  I'd actually like to play Bethpage during the months the weather is good. It's busy enough as it is.

It definitely would be cool, especially if Bethpage became a permanent fixture every year, or even 2-3 years as part of a rotation for the Barclays. It would be nice if we saw some of the US Open courses a little more often. Of course, we see Pebble Beach and Torrey Pines every year for the AT&T; and Farmers Insurance tournaments, but those are the only two that come to mind that we see with any sort of regularity. I feel like I'm forgetting one or two though.

Congressional (At&t;) would be the other US Open course on the PGA Tour Schedule (except last year and this year due to them having the Open this year).  The Barclay's will continue to bounce around NY and NJ as there are so many great courses to choose from, so I wouldn't expect it at Bethpage on a regular basis.  As a previous poster said it is also disruptive to other courses, not just the black, even though a FedEx Cup event will be less disruptive then a US Open.

It's really a great situation either way, but I'd prefer to see Bethpage Black in U.S. Opens only.  It creates such a huge buzz when the U.S. Open is there, and that makes it even more special in my opinion.  That being said, I won't be too upset if it ends up in the FedEx Cup Playoffs on occasion.

I'll make an exception if it helps with the green fees. The last increase was substantial. It had better not be a regular occurance.

not a chance. Baltusrol is very happy with their "once in every 13 year"s major.

I did read Liberty National was making "significant" changes, which they claim is NOT due to PGA player feedback.. suuurrreee..

If Bethpage fails to get it, it may go back there as a fall back option.

I could see the Barclays at bethpage for one year but if it became a regular thing it might jeopardize them getting the US Open again. If you look at the courses they pick for the US Open it's generally courses that are not regular stops.

True, but two of the last three years the U.S. Open has been played on a course that has an annual Tour stop. Now, those are closer to the exception, not the rule, but still, they could be trending towards that direction.

Yeah but if you look at the courses that are coming up most are not regular stops on the tour. Congressional has the at&t; national but it didn't when they selected as a US open course. After Congressional you got Olympic, Merion, Pinehurst, Chambers Bay, and Oakmont so if anything they are trending the other direction. Pebble Beach and Torrey Pines will always have there respected places for the US open because of the history especially Pebble Beach. I have no problem with them playing regular tour stops but I think it's hard to host a regular tour event and get ready to host a major in the same year so the USGA just tries to avoid it.

every year would be rough there. They need a good practice range. I think they used one of the other courses as a practice range for the open and that kind of sucks.

Irons: Mizuno MP4s kbs tour shafts

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
