I was playing golf today and one of the guys I was playing with was playing a ladies Taylormade Burner driver… "WTF!?" I thought to myself. Does he know he's playing a ladies club??? Why would he play a ladies club? He was terrible with it also.

This is the second guy ive seen playing a ladies club in the past few weeks. And like today he was Asian too. I don't know if that has anything to do with it…?

Is there something Im not getting…?

In my Ogio bag.

Titleist 910D2 driver, Adams irons & hybrid, Callaway wedges & a Nike Method putter.

And a yellow ball.

I don't think there is a whole world of difference between a ladies and senior flex. Were these guys short it might have been a better length fit off the rack as opposed to fitted? Or as maybe it has something to do with the graphics the liked.

That being said I know bowling in Asia they actually have a whole different delviery method called spinning (we call it a helicopter release) that differs from the typical delivery in the rest of the world. The lanes are even dressed differently due to it. So maybe you stumbled on to some culturaly different approach to the game where they like real whippy clubs.

WHy does everyone on this site have to be so caring? Hahaha, I didn't say I laughed at him… Geez. Relax!

Besides, it clearly wasn't working for him, so why would HE play it? I mean I could maybe understand it if he was crushing it or at east hitting it in the fairway, but this guy was all over the place, and NEVER in the fairway. Haha

Actually no. He was almost 6 foot. But the shaft flex makes sense and I had already thought about that, but I don't think it played a factor… Like I said above this guy couldn't hit it, period. Im pretty sure he missed every single fairway and it wasn't a hard course. Huge fairways on most of the holes.

I would have asked him, but he didn't speak the best of English anyways.

Im not intending this to bash anyone. Just thought it was odd, and maybe someone here had some insight or something…

If he's hitting as badly as you say, there's no reason to worry about the clubs, certainly no reason to buy a replacement set.  Maybe he just had a set of ladies' clubs because he got them from a friend or family member and figured he'd learn to play with them?

First time I played with one guy he had a purple bag and all womens clubs. Since he was 6 feet tall and kind of large, we may have had a preconceived notion about him.

After starting to talk to him, we found out that someone broke into his garage and stole his clubs the night before and he was using his daughters clubs. This guy is now a good friend of ours.

Whew! So he wasn't . . .you know . . . because that would be awkward when the cart girl came by.

Even if he was terrible, he probably would have been worse with a stiff shaft. Also, FWIW, I've seen more women's clubs in golf stores than I have seen clubs with senior flex shafts. Women's clubs seem to be more available, and they're cheaper.

Some stores like Sports Authority by my house place their discounted clubs in the same aisle with ladies clubs and they get mixed together.  When I bought my first hybrid I almost made the mistake and bought a ladies flex.  Some clubs are obviously ladies as the colors are more pastel, but some look identical except for the shaft flex and length, he might not know.

Some people who have slower swingspeeds go with ladies' clubs because that shaft flex is suited to them.  Its not all that uncommon to especially see this in older players use ladies club and even ladies' golf balls.

Ive got a Mizuno Sora putter, which is a ladies' model.  Other than the shaft being shorter and the baby blue grip youd never know its a ladies' putter.  I bought it because it was cheap and because I wanted a Mizuno putter.

LOL....topic brings back memories... I started playing golf about 6 yrs ago. I always thought golf was for girls, so I got a late start. Anyways long story short I used my friends clubs not knowing the difference between female and male clubs. I Sh*t you not I was swinging some Wal-mart Patty Berg's the driver head was a little bit bigger than the ball. The 3 old guys went crazy when they found out it was my first time playing golf and shooting a 86 at Coral Oaks CC in Cape Coral Florida and doing it with female clubs.

I still see these guys when I play from time to time and we all still laugh about what I started out with and they always tell the story to either the new guy playing with them or someone I get paired with.

When I first started playing and my dad realized I was serious about playing golf he got me a set of blades. I think I was 12 after he got me new a set he proceeds to tell me they were a women's set. I actually hit them well but at the time the length and flex were perfect for my swing. I played them for about 2 years then out grew them but to be honest women's, men's or whatever if I hit it good I will play anything.

My Driver is a ladies club and I love it, and I'm not embarrassed about it. When I took up golf, I bought my irons and bag at a pawnshop. My partner said it was a nice set, but no woods. He lent me an old 3 wood for our first few rounds. I managed to get a driver (for free) one day. I looked on the Internet and that current years model was comparable to a $300 club. Nice, I thought until I showed it to my buddy. He said I'd need to get it cut down because it was too long even for him. He's about 4 inches taller than I. So off to the used sports equiptment store and found a really nice driver. It wasn't until I got home I saw the lable saying "women's". But with my limited swing range, this club does me well.

I ordered a Chicken and an Egg on the Internet, to find out which came first... I'll keep you posted!

Play what makes you play better, who cares what anyone else thinks.

Men use Lady balls all the time as well, it doesn't really matter...

Funny you mentioned that… I cant remember exactly, but I swear I remember hearing something about women's golf balls being disallowed in mens tournament play… Does anyone know if that is correct or not?

I guess my big question with the whole men playing women's clubs is: with all the advances in golf technology it seems like everyone should be able to find something that works for them and their swing. I completely understand going with what works, but why would it be a ladies model when there are so many options of clubs out there? I would think you would be able to find something. Using the last guy I played with as an example: He was playing a Taylormade burner driver. Now I know that driver is overstocked at so many golf stores its crazy! I just don't see how he could have consciously gone with a ladies burner (especially since the women's model is very distinctly printed with women's pastel colors) when there are a bunch of options in shaft flex for that club. X,S,R,Senior, etc… ?

Precept Laddie's started out as Precept Ladies.  They were so popular among men with slower swings, they added a D and sold it as a men's ball....

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
