If you're like me, you rarely if ever play an entire round without losing a ball.  I am always proud of myself when I make it from start to finish with the same ball. If I break 100 it's been a good day.

I know someone that keeps a collection of "retired" golf balls - Balls that's he's played with for a whole round and didn't lose.

Anyone ever start a round and realize that you only have 3 balls left and worry that you'll run out before the round's over and have to borrow one from someone you're golfing with... or have to search in the woods for another to keep playing.... or... just go home?

Drugs are bad. M'kay.

I change my swing every time I don't shoot par for the course.

The other day I shouldn't have lost any but it was really wet and the ball plugged off the tee everytime.  My group lost atleast 3 balls that landed in the fairway.  Probably shouldn't have been playing but its whatever.

I collect my "retired" golf balls, also.  I think it's an accomplishment.   I've also noticed that in spring and summer, I lose very few througout the season, but here in Texas where you can golf through the winter, but the fairways are like glass and won't hold your shot, is when I lose quite a few.

I absolutely LOVE when I have time to nose around in the bushes and find a whole double handful of golf balls that have only been hit like once!  I get A LOT of ProV1s that way.  : D

I probably lose 1 ball every 2 to 3 rounds.  However, I probably take a ball out of play ( and throw it in my shag bag) 1 to 2 times per round.  Once the ball gets a mark on it I usually take it out of play.

I lose 3-4 balls per round. two of them i usually hit in the water or somewhere OB and can't get to it, the other 1-2 I hit in a place where I know it should be (usually in play), but when I walk up to where I thought it was, it's just gone. those are the ones that annoy me most.

When I first started playing I probably lost 3-4 a rd. For the the last year or so I can buy a box of Pro-V's and it will last me 10 rds

The good news is that I have only lost 1 ball in my last 8 rounds.

The bad news is that it is because I don't hit it far enough to lose sight of it.  LOL

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Do you mean a 3 ball sleeve or a 12 pack.  A 12 pack means you average over 1 ball lost per round in a ten round scenario.

No more than 1 per round.  No fewer than 1 for every three rounds.

Box means 12, but not always due to "lost ball" most due to cut or scruff and nvr play a ball more than 1 rd all the used balls go in the bucket and I hit them into the canal behind my house

1-3 per round depending on how open the course is. I dont buy expensive balls yet. Ive played rounds with one ball before, but ive never thought to keep the ball as a trophy. My GF would probably think im crazy.

haha...this is a funny thread.

I also find it EXTREMELY frustrating when I hit a ball into the rough and then can't find the thing.  Drives me nuts.

I would say I loose about 1 ball per round on average.  I normally jack one OB at least once per round.

I also take balls out of play when they get beat up.

Another extremely frustrating thing is hitting a brand new Pro V with a wedge just to find out that the ball is trashed after one swing.

I hardly lose any balls. lucky I guess. I honestly can't remember the last time I lost one. Of course, the courses I play don't have much vegetation or lots of trees. just water and the water isn't really a worry for me. most of the water hazards are 50 yards before the green. and since I only have around 100-150 yards on my approach on many par-4's, I can easily sail over them. I bought some pro v1x balls on Dec. 16th 2010. yes, I look at the receipt. I still have 8 of them in my bag. they are beat up, but still work great.

I lose on average 1-2 a round. In fact Im super proud of myself when I don't lose any! Hahaha It usually happens on water holes. They're like magnets to me!

In my Ogio bag.

    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
    • I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.
    • Going one step stiffer in the golf shaft, of the same make and model will have minor impact on the launch conditions. It can matter, it is a way to dial in some launch conditions if you are a few hundred RPM off or the angle isn't there. Same with moving weights around. A clubhead weights 200-220 grams. You are shifting a fraction of that to move the CG slightly. It can matter, again its more about fine tuning. As for grip size, this is more personal preference. Grip size doesn't have any impact on the swing out of personal preference.  You are going to spend hundreds of dollars for fine tuning. Which if you want, go for it. I am not sure what your level of play is, or what your goals in golf are.  In the end, the golf swing matters more than the equipment. If you want to go to that level of detail, go find a good golf club fitter. ChatGPT is going to surface scan reddit, golfwrx, and other popular websites for the answers. Basically, it is all opinionated gibberish at this point.
