IMO it's crazy to apply it to anything. The more somebody works and practices at anything the better they should get but that doesn't mean they are going to pass people with more talent.

I've been a welder my whole life and have worked with many really good welders. Some had been welding for many, many years but the very best welder I ever worked with had been welding for 9 months when I first met him. The man was a tremendous talent and a natural artist with a welding rod. Could do things that we would have considered impossible.

All of the practice in the world can't give what he had.

It's funny but just like golfers welders sometimes consider themselves better than what they really are. Welding was something I picked up fairly quick as well I had 4G unlimited LO/HY  7018 in a matter of a couple months after picking up a stinger for the first time, unfortunately I got more involved in the mechanical maintenance of my trade versus the construction end just because the money was better but looking back now I think I would have enjoyed fabricating more.

Ouch, that hurts. What surprises me most is that he had scores that weren't tournament scores above what his usual score apparently were. I see an 86 at his home course, where he must've been shooting around 74-77 to get down to a 2.6 with the CR and slope.

A 1.5 jump is significant. And then it really doesn't get any easier with 5 revision scores at the bottom coming off.

Purpose, dedication and direction have been found once again. [Do not confuse purpose, dedication and direction with feel-good drivel.] This past weekend was the most transformational two days of the project to date. By far. And, at a crucial point.

I attended the Vision54 two-day course in Denver and it vastly surpassed my expectations.  [...] the two weeks leading up to the 1,243 mile drive were some of the toughest to date.  I was wanting to step away and take a serious break for the first time in the past 4 years. [This wasn't an irrational emotional breakdown. It was your brain arriving at a conclusion you didn't want to face.]  I was finding myself stuck on outcomes and from my point of view the outcomes were almost all negative and getting worse. [That's because you were proving your inflated expectations wrong.]  [...] In other words, I had hit a dreaded mental slump and didn’t know what to do. [...]  I did consciously attempt to be more neutral and kind with my self-talk, but without a system to implement it was like canoeing upstream without a paddle.

[...] It went great and I shot a 38 on the front 9 and a 36 on the back. [One good round means nothing. You continue to use bad metrics to feed your delusions.] [...]

After that I worked on different Play Boxes to see what was working for me right now.  A Play Box is the area where you simply hit the shot.  Once you enter the Play Box, you don’t hesitate or become distracted. [Every single "mental" book ever, including the ones you read, basically says "eliminate distractions." I'm glad you're putting a bit more emphasis on consciously doing this, but be real: this is a tweak; it won't fundamentally change the path you're on.] [...] [W]hen I try to amp up my adrenaline slightly before striking the ball I hit it with greater consistency. [Interesting.]  [...]

Much more to come [Probably not; I think that's pretty much all you learned.], this is just a taste of what I have been experiencing over the past week.

Dan's on a bit of an emotional high from the cheerleading at Vision54. Get ready for him to crash again.

His blog post with my comments in bold:

Lucky bastard is probably taking a trip to Australia. How's that for deliberate practice? :-) Nice when people wanna ride your coattails.

It's awfully convenient for him that it happens during his local club championship is the only thing I was thinking when I said that. I bet he goes, but I can't blame him when I'd do the exact same thing.

Me too. I lost faith in the whole thing. I was hoping to learn more from it, but it's basically a reality/marketing/the old drop your job play golf dream through someone vicariously show, seems like a nice positive guy but I'm just a cynical bastard, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Of course he goes.  I doubt that he could win his flight at the club championship, let alone the championship itself.  He knows that too.....

I wonder who is paying for this considering he can't afford tournaments

Good marketing people can always find a hyperbolic path relative to their stated goal that takes them on a nice trip for free. :-X He even has people donating golf bags and other freebies. :loco: Now, you know how engineers feel about marketing folks. (Again, not directed towards any marketing people subscribing to this site. Please accept my apologies in advance).

What about engineers who work in marketing? I think he should take the trip. There will always be tournaments to play in. Australia is such a great opportunity why not go? I do think he is a little bit of attention hound. "Oh everyone what should I do, should I go to Australia?" He knows what everyone is going to say. I don't like him sort of passively bragging about what he is doing.

Michael

I disagree. His focus needs to be on the course. He has people donating money to see him do well on the course not traveling. If there was a tourney in Australia it would be different

This is an affiliate purchase, and I'm willing to kick back lifetime ad-free Supporter membership here on TST or a 90-minute GEARS session for the cost of a regular member lesson (about 1/3 the cost). Also, I'll record a video myself soon when I get an R50.

    • Day 209 (27 Nov 24) - Easy session with the LW - short pitches replicating greens side up and downs. Finished up with the 7i and hard foam balls - making 1/2 to 3/4 swings with deliberately slowed tempo…from varied lies.
    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
