Hi all,

I am so desperate and thus I am posting here and hoping somebody could give me some tips or anything that i can try.

I have broken 5 drivers in the last 12 months and have been spending a fortune.

I am quite a long hitter, I'd say probably longer than your average tour pro. I dont really have any problem carrying 300 yards. On a course with decent fairways I often hit 370/380 yard drives. (I wont go into my short game though )

I have to admit that it's been quite nice to get new drivers all the time but its gotta stop! I have had two R7s, one old Cobra SZ, then I cracked a new TaylorMade Burner, and then I bought a brand new Titleist D2 and cracked it yesterday. Have taken 2 back to the store but they say that they cant replace it. Though the store where I got the D2 from gave me 50% discount on a new driver that I bought yesterday, and I bought a new i15 Ping. I have kept the same shaft with all of them and just been replcing the heads.

The shaft I use is a KongKe xx flex (it's a small private shaftmaker where I live doubt you guys will have heard of it).

They have all cracked in different areas, mostly on the crown just above the face, though the D2 seemed to have cracked at 2 places at the same time, at the back of the crown and the front.

Anyways, so my question is - what can i do to prevent another driver from cracking? My drives are generally very straight and I hit my driver very very well (I practise it a lot! )

I'm afraid if I break my new i15 i will feel like pooopooo

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks all!

380 yards? Seriously?

Post a swing and we will see if you're doing anything wrong

And the store has to replace it...in fact, the manufacturer should replace it, not the store, so I don't know why they won't help you.

I suggest you contact the manufacture of the club(s) and tell them you routinely hit the ball 380 yards with their driver.  They'll probably want to use you for advertising and pay you and just give you drivers.  Might contact two or three and let them bid on your services.

They'll replace it  No doubt all clubs come with some warranty.  I would however suggest finding an Adams 9032 LD.  This head was made for Sadlowski the face is reinforced and designed to take some punishment.  I just sold one with a HOF X shaft last week for $130  Sorry for the bad timing.

I have similar issues with my swing, I routinely hit the ball 498 yrds (about 100yrds of that is roll out so it depends on the condition of the fairways) and my swing speed with the driver is around 1378 mph, although I usually only swing around 80% as I don't want to put any unwarranted strain on the Earth's rotational axis.

I would recommend cutting your shaft down to 23 inches  and standing on one leg with a LOT of knee flex, also, try shouting as loud as you can when swinging.

Rolopolo: Long hitters break driver faces constantly. Check out this video of Jaime Sadlowski. He says at around the 1:10 mark how often a big hitter will break a stock model.

Like Sadlowski says, get custom fit for a driver with a thicker face. You'll lose trampoline effect, but at least the thing will last longer.

rolopolo...Jamie Sadlowski can hit it 380 like you and he is the world champ in long driving....you could take it up as a profession.

Or, you could admit you don't hit it that long.

26000000 people or more play golf worldwide if 1 in 100 could carry 300 yards with a driver that would mean 260000 people can. So when one turns up on a popular golf website their is no logical reason for you to be so sceptical. I played with a 9 Hc their other day and he totaled 330 meters with one drive.Thats 360 yards, its not that unheard of .. Although still pretty amazing

I've hit a few buckets of balls at River Bend golf course (local muni) where the longest point corner to corner is well over 300 yards (confirmed with the Bushnell). Before the course switched to limited flight balls,  there were a few LD guys who routinely put their drives on the othe side of the road (the road being > 300 yards away). Not sure what they'd do with a distance ball, but when they hit - wow!

You should take a look at SMT golf and Geek golf. Their heads are used a lot in the long drive competitions. SMT has a lifetime warranty on their heads, you crack it and they'll send you another one. Steve at Geek golf has a similar warranty. Give'em a call

I bet the number is closer to 1 in 1,000 golfers being able to carry 300 yards. I bet even fewer can "often hit 370/380 yard drives" as the OP claimed. I'm not saying I don't believe the OP, I'm just saying there *are* logical reasons to be skeptical.

Why is everyone always soooo skeptical on here?  If you don't think he can hit it that far, then don't reply or comment.  I go with the advice of getting either the Adams or something like Geek Golf.  Also, I would bypass the shop and talk to the mfg (Titleist, etc) and see what they say or advise.

Hi all,

Thanks so much for the great advice, phew , I am a big fan of the Sand Trap but never expected people would be so helpful.

It's good to know that there are still people out there who does not mind giving free advice and to help others. The world needs more golfers

I think maybe I gave some of you the wrong impression with my driver distance, I do not hit every single drive 360 yards , but I feel that if i have an open fairway, with nice hard grass, and I tee up a new players ball and go at it hard, then most of the time, I will get those distances. Of course you can only hot those shots on a few holes over 18 holes.

My driver is very very straight, it has been for a few years. I was a pretty long driver in school, and then, 4 years ago I lived in Taiwan and started training really hard in the gym. Also going to the driving range was the only golf I was exposed to at that time and I only had a driver. It became something of a routine for me to go to the range every evening and just hit balls. My disrances somehow just kept increasing as I got stronger and it feels like I'm still getting better. As I say, I'm not a great golfer, I cant really put well as I have a problem with one eye - its a little tiny bit skewed to one side so I struggle a bit with perception, but now Im getting better after practise. Ive just been hitting so many drives I think that I could probably hit 8 out of 10 down the middle with a blindfold on

It's good to know that you all are saying that drivers should be under warranty. I live in Malaysia and maybe they have different policies here, however, the shop I bought from last time seemed to have very friendly owners and it looked more like the real deal, not just a little shop but actually people who honor warranties. Yeep yeep yooray

Thank you for the recommendations on the ADAMS, and the GEEK golf smt drivers and those ones. I will definitely have a look (wonder if they deliver in Malaysia)

Thank you so much for all yoru kind words and suggestions

Lol, I just love smilies, after the driving range they are my favorites, the world is so dull and full of hate sometimes , I think smilies help to make it a better place.

I will see if I can post a video of my swing at the soonest, maybe tomorrow.

Thanks again guys!

wow 360 yds... ANd driver heads actually break with that kind of swing speed?

And yea, would love to see you swing it.

    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
