Great to see Edfors playing well so far. Never seemed to continue showing the potential he appeared to have with his 3 wins in 2006.

Edfors has game; he was in the mix on the weekend at Bethpage a couple of years ago. He's not going to win, but he'll stick around for a while. The most important thing about the first round of a major is avoiding mistakes, and a quick check of the leaderboard says that most of this year's contenders are not playing themselves out of the tournament. Now Graeme and Oosty's balls are touching. Ha! Also, David Love is too old to be wearing electric fuschia slacks. Same with Bubba Watson and his Gomer Pyle xostume.

Yeah stinker of a front nine. Hitting it off the planet? Our coverage doesn't start for another 4 hours, would stay up and watch but I got a multivariable calculus and linear algebra exam :(

a handful of players who had the AP2's are back playing blades like Adam Scott and McIlroy.

It's weird to think if I was still in NZ, I would have to stay up late to watch or watch highlights the next day. North America has it's benefits.

It's not a disaster yet for Luke; the low scores are on the front nine, and everyone on the front page of the leaderboard started at 1. Another birdie or two can repair the damage.

[/quote] The AP2s haven't been updated in a while. It could be that they got a lot of money to play them originally, or that they just feel like they don't need the forgiveness anymore. Scott in particular has been striking the ball well lately.

have you ever played a us open course even on a normal day?  the difference between a par, bogey or worse is really not much at all.  I don't care how good you are in normal conditions, this course would be nearly impossible to extremely difficult for most scratch to 5 handicaps to break 90 on.  If you are a strong player (carry drives over 270 and can hit it high) who is on your game then perhaps you could fair a little better but most good club players don't hit it strong enough to even hold these greens or get it out of the 2nd cut with any type of distance.  That added pressure of having to hit the fairway on every hole causes you to steer the ball a little and with that comes more off line shots.  Make a few bogeys or worse and it's hard to mentally keep from getting even more nervous about hitting it online etc...

the firmness of the fairways and greens alone would make even your home course 5-10 shots more difficult, that's not considering the rough or shaved areas or added pressure of the event.

From what i've been told it was an effort to hold greens better as the ap2 flies higher, slightly straighter, and gets a little more spin.  The problem being that shots out of deep rough are tougher as the club is bigger with a wider sole and if you get steep on it and catch it slightly high in the face then you get a dead ball (problem with all GI irons for good players).

IMO These guys don't mis-hit the ball enough to need forgiveness, nobody does.  Some guys play GI/perimeter weighted irons because either then need a little help getting it in the air or in the case of westwood or couples etc... they have played them all their lives pretty much so it's just what they are used to.

YE is making a little bit of a run, now tied for the lead. And Kuchar is back to E. Broomstick at +1 with Stevie on the bag, Tiger's replacement at +4, and a lot of good players at +3.

I was asking how he had qualified for the US Open. Pretty basic quation to ask when I see a player after playing 7 holes and yet to get a sniff at a par.

He's got a triple, a double, a birdie, and a bunch of bogeys, but some pars sprinkled in as well.
