Non-Published Discounts for Golf

So in the last few weeks I've learned about non published discounts at courses I've played. I get why courses would offer discounts that aren't published because people like me will pay the full price without knowing about discounts. I guess the discounts are similar to hotels. Whenever I call a hotel for a reservation I ask if they offer a military/government discount but I feel weird when calling for a tee time and asking about discounts that aren't listed.

When calling for tee times do you ask about potential discounts you may be eligible for. What are some great discounts (for example military, police, firefighter, student, locals or senior discounts) that aren't published you've learned about.

I should also add that I've also been told that many courses offer "golf industry discounts" for people who work in the golf industry.  I would assume if you are in the golf industry you know about these sorts of discounts so not looking to hear about discounts golf industry discounts.

My favorite non-published discount is birthday rates. A few years ago, I went to play a nice course in Orange County (CA) on my birthday. My friend mentioned casually to the starter as he was paying that today was my birthday, and the starter told me it was a free round. It was also a great course, and naturally I went back there again!

A lot of the courses in my area have a free greens fee discount for within one week of your birthday. You still have to get a cart, though, so it's not free, but it's still discounted. I'd definitely investigate this sort of discount for any course I was thinking about playing.

except when your birthday in in February like mine, if its cold enough its free to play at some courses around here as the clubhouse is closed but if you want to walk they dont care if you do, most people dont want to so maybe you might see one other person on the course at the same time as you during the winter, almost like having your own private course.

Unfortunately, my birthday is in late October, so here in MA those deals are usually worthless to me. I did use one once. It snowed, of course. :-P

Our golf pro gets free rounds at pretty much any course and when I go with him I am his "assistant" and also get a free round. We have the birthday one too!

Same mine is in December but a few courses here let you use it in the Spring if your birthday is from November to March.

I get a student discount at a few courses around here too, most are 18 and under unfortunately but there are a few that give discounts to college students if you have your ID.  I usually go check out their website before hand, that's a good way to find some of the deals that are not posted in the club house.
