ESPN had an interesting piece on  SportsCenter today on where Rory get's his length from.  Surprise....it's from it's hips.

The link should bring the piece up.

Components of Stack and Tilt, and no one can tell me different. Notice the straight left leg at Impact... Nice Post Man.

720 degrees per second, that is insane, the kids a monster. I wish they would do an analysis between Rory, Bubba, and JB...

Stack and Tilt has bunch of components of other swings. You will see elements of it in just about everyones swing.

I think I'm getting nauseous reading all your posts about SnT, saying Bubba is SnT etc etc. I don't think Ive ever seen a decent golfer without a straighter left leg at impact or any teacher telling people to not have a straighter lead leg at impact.

+1 on this.

The reverse hip thing makes my back sore just watching it. I'm no doctor, but it will be interesting to see how his body holds up over the years.

The reverse hip action is natural for him, its because his core muscles are pulling in the other direction. There really isn't anything he can do about it, unless he's able to shut down one of his oblique muscles.

straight leg at impact is not necessary, i would even say snapping the leg straight can lead to knee problems (tiger woods), you can soften that knee and still have it straighten out. I just don't like to see what Tiger did, were he snapped his leg straight and continued to torque it with rotation.

Um, exactly what I'm saying man... And I'm no stack and tilt player but I am installing components of it into my game now because it is more consistent IMO... I was 9 for 9 today averaging 275 off the tee today in fairways hit using the S&T; weight forward and straight front leg at impact. I can honestly say however that I have lost 20-30 yards off the tee box but I have gained more consistency than ever before. But I have no doubt that as I gain confidence and understanding in this swing component I will get my long ball distance off the tee again. But if not, then I'd rather be consistent anyway while still hitting it farther that 99 percent of the golfers out there consistently hitting fairways... I'm not selling S&T; and I'm not teaching it, but components of it work, so if that makes you nauseous than I guess so do birdies and eagles... ;-)

Gross. There is nothing self-conciously SnT about what Rory does. Nothing. Don't try to appropriate it. The SnT guys wouldn't. They do have certain positions and/or concepts they advocate. If Rory happens to have certain things he does that apply to those concepts, that's groovy, but it's not SnT.

P.S. - My 80ish instructor tells me things that, on occasion, are SnTish even though he doesn't particularly know or care what SnT is. Should he pay royalties to Plummer and Bennett?

I'd like to see the piece, though. Rory's action is pretty great to watch.

I agree with you 110% man, but I do believe in straightening it to start the down swing, but I do not think snapping the leg is necessary. I took 30 practice swings at 80 percent and every single divot was exactly the same compared to 30 divots shifting my weight which were great by most people's standards but they were no where near as consistent...

Hey man, I think we are on the same page, I just give credit to S&T; because it is the easiest concept for me to understand the whole weight forward idea. And I really feel it is impossible to get 100 percent of the weight forward. But I do like the leg action going back because the rear straight leg pushes/slides the hips towards the target while straightening the lead leg on the downswing and tightening the butt brings the hips threw great... At least it works for me.

I would never swing SnT simply for the fact that it's, in my opinion, an ugly swing that I have no desire to aspire too.  Since I don't play golf for a living half the joy of golfing is just having a beautiful swing.  And the traditional weight shift and rotation is the essense of the swing I find so beautiful.

Thanks for sharing.

Can we talk about the topic now?

It also has nothing to do with the topic. CuppedTin, when I say what I said two posts above... you don't continue with the off-topic crap, especially if you're going to call a post "gay"? Seriously?

I saw this last year I think, when he was out of a few tournaments for back issues. I hope it doesn't plague him during his career. I've always found it strange that for such a good ball striker, he moves off the ball quite a lot. Obviously gets a lot of rhythm and timing from his weight shift.

    • No, but I spent (marginally) less time in the trees at Southern Pines, so it definitely played wider for me 😆. It definitely felt wider.
    • Have you measured? 🙂
    • I'm bad about taking pictures, but here are a few Hole 1 on Duke, looking toward the green. The elevated green with bunkers surrounding it was a theme. The other theme was pin placements that were tough - this one is pretty far left. There were basically no easy pins on this day.     Hole 3 at Pine Needles. An extremely cool hole. Hole 5 at Pine Needles. The picture doesn't do the green site justice. Green of 6 at Southern Pines. A wild green, and a really cool setting at the edge of the property: Hole  Tee shot on 5 at Tobacco Road. Flag is on the flag, the huge fairway is to the right. Hole 8 at Tobacco Road. Downhill, medium length par 3 with this pin in the front part of the green. Really cool looking shot. A look at the pin placement and cottage on Tobacco Road 14. I hit one of my best shots of the trip here, to about 15 feet.
    • Yes, but season 2 being all of six episodes is a bit of a let-down, even if the season itself wasn't.
